Menlo and Whittier made it on to the Sports Illustrated web site.  They are featured in the last video on the Campus Clicks page.  Pretty funny...
BTW,the photographer kneeling behind the goal post is me. After the kick I lowered my camera and looked over my shoulder and, damn, missed a great shot. ;D
I should add, the kid was fine. Mom ran over, he said, with nary a tear, "I'm OK" and ran off to play some more.

LOL. That is one funny clip. I still can't stop laughing after watching the poor lil dude get popped on the head, gets knocked off his feet by the field goal and yet manages to get right back up and go on with his normal business of playing with the other lil munchakins.

Go dodgers. Great game last night by the way. We will fix any mistakes that occured by this afternoon.

Was a good game---too bad Manny didn't hit his ball a little further or a little more to the side.....and too bad Furcal made the error.  Go Dodgers!

Careful, or you might end up like this poor guy, as reported by BBC News:

QuoteSudan man forced to 'marry' goat

A Sudanese man has been forced to take a goat as his "wife", after he was caught having sex with the animal.

The goat's owner, Mr Alifi, said he surprised the man with his goat and took him to a council of elders.

They ordered the man, Mr Tombe, to pay a dowry of 15,000 Sudanese dinars ($50) to Mr Alifi.

"We have given him the goat, and as far as we know they are still together," Mr Alifi said.

Mr Alifi, of Hai Malakal in Upper Nile State, told the Juba Post newspaper that he heard a loud noise around midnight on 13 February and immediately rushed outside to find Mr Tombe with his goat.

"When I asked him: 'What are you doing there?', he fell off the back of the goat, so I captured and tied him up."

Mr Alifi then called elders to decide how to deal with the case.

"They said I should not take him to the police, but rather let him pay a dowry for my goat because he used it as his wife," Mr Alifi told the newspaper.

Update: Mr. Tombe and the goat have divorced. She got the kids.

Sabretooth Tiger

Wow, big win for the Tigers . . . heartbreaker for the Bulldogs.  Given all their returning players, senior line and qb . . . this has to be a big "go big or don't go at all year" for the Tigers.  Next week at Chapman, non-conference, but could be a factor later in seeding/hosting if the Tigers keep up the good work.

Congrats to Dale and the crew, sorry I missed the game.

Same 'ol, same 'ol.

Not to think the fate of Redlands took a sharp downward turn with the loss of Dan Selway is wishful thinking, bravado notwithstanding.

Sabretooth Tiger

No doubt, losing Selway is tragic for the Dawgs  . . . bright spots will depend on when he's back this season and . . . the fact that he is only a junior.

Fear the Poet

Chapman 35  Poets 21. It looked like another Poet blowout loss at half. Panthers had a commnding 28-6 lead at half.

Poet QB, Matt Casteneda went down and out with a shoulder injury and was replaced by freshman Taylor Fallon.

The Poets looked like a different team in the second half as the defense tightened up and Fallon connected with Josh Ollison on a few big pass plays and Anthony Pomponio broke a beautiful TD run in the fourth quarter. The poets had a first and goal with about five minutes left. They were not able to punch it in. It would have made it a 35-28 score and the Poets had alot of momentum at that point. It wwasn't to be , but they showed some heart in the second half and that was encouraging.

The Panthers have some good running backs and Christensen is a stud.

Congrats to Chapman....The Poets will build from this..

OxyBob, good recap as usual.  However, I think the following should also be emphasized:

1.  On third down, right before the safety, Goltz was hit from the blind side and clearly fumbled and Redlands was poised to recover in the end zone for a game-tying TD or at least force a safety.  However, the referee immediately blew the play dead as incomplete.  That was a terrible call as Goltz fumbled.  It was the old "empty hand" call.

2.  Then, on the next play, the safety, Redlands blocked the punt and the ball was downed on the 16.  We were screaming (but not cackling) that Redlands should decline the penalty, take the two points off the board and go for the tying TD from the Oxy 16.  Instead, they took the safety and went down two scores, which took Schaefer out of the game and ended Redlands' hopes.

3.  UOR should do away with alternating Schaefer and Stewart.  Schaefer is the best back I've ever seen in the SCIAC.  No way should he be platooning.  He should've had 35 carries in tonight's game.  Stewart had the big TD run, but otherwise tiptoed his way through most other carries.

4.  Haller did not play a down in the second half.  I wonder if he had a concussion or something as he was on the sidelines and wasn't limping but clearly was not going to get back in the game.  He was 7-137 in the first half and actually INCREASED his 15 ypc average he had coming into the game.

5.  The 2-point conversion by Oxy was a TERRIBLE decision, even though it works.  If they kick, UOR has to score two TD's to go ahead, same thing if they make the deuce.  If they miss, then UOR needs TD-2pt-FG to tie.  The marginal benefit did not outweigh the risk.  The deuce is vastly overused in all levels of football and should only be used in the last ten minutes and only when absolutely necessary.  Credit to Texas today for NOT using it even to tie the game at 28 today.

6.  Oxy's D played their best game in a long time.  Ostland, Tromello, Sarkissian, Ciasulli, Fischer, Wallace, Sullivan, Wertheimer, just to name a few, were all over the place.  Where were these guys against Whittier?

7.  The referee, using the mic for what looked like the first time in his life, looked like a deer in the headlights using the mic.

Congrats to Oxy and OB for being right.   ;)  Sounds like it was a great game and a bad break for UR.  I agree with Tigersports about Schaffer, he had some fumble problems his first two years, but it looks like he got past that issue.  Tough kid, hard runner.  Under the injury circumstance of Selway, I thought he would get the ball more often.

Oxy sure seems to be a roadblock for UR.

Eyewitness report from Redlands:

Oxy 28, Redlands 15

Clear, cool, breezy evening in Redlands.

Oxy exploded for 3 long touchdown runs in the first half, and the Tigers held Redlands at bay in the second half, as Oxy won its 5th straight over the Bulldogs.

Redlands had the ball to start the game, ate up 5 minutes and drove to the Oxy 23, but Zach Schafer was stopped on 4th-and-2. Oxy took over and on 3rd-and-5 from its own 42, Justin Goltz went around the left end and down the sideline for a 58-yard TD, and Oxy led 7-0. After an exchange of punts, Redlands stalled at the Oxy 49. The snap to UR punter Wes Norris was bad, but he picked up the ball, ran to his right, and somehow got off the punt, which was downed at the Oxy 1. The Tigers went 3-and-out, and Alex Groh's punt was returned to the Oxy 36. On the next play UR's huge, impressive running back Jeff Stewart ran right and scored, and the game was tied 7-7.

On Oxy's next possession, Jason Haller went right up the middle for a 62-yard TD run. The extra point was missed, and Oxy led 13-7. Redlands came right back on its next possession, with Zach Schafer scoring on a 35-yard run. Oxy blocked the extra point, and the game was tied again at 13. The Tigers went 3-and-out, but the Bulldogs couldn't do anything and punted it back to Oxy. Haller went up the gut again for 66 yards and another TD, the extra point was good this time, and Oxy led 20-13. Very exciting first half.

Oxy got the ball to start the second half, and drove for a 1st-and-goal at the UR 5. On 3rd down Jordan Inabnit was wide open on the right with no one within 15 yards of him, but Redlands made Goltz hurry a bit and he didn't get the ball to Inabnit. Oxy settled for a FG try, but Neil Martin pushed it wide right.

Redlands went 3-and-out on its next possession. Oxy drove again, and after a personal foul on Redlands, the Tigers had it 1st-and-goal at the UR 4, but Oxy coughed it up on a botched handoff, and the Bulldogs recovered on the 5. Curses, thwarted again! Redlands made a first down but then stalled and had to punt. Wes Norris got off a 63-yarder which was downed at the Oxy 3. The Tigers went nowhere. Alex Groh's punt was blocked and recovered by Redlands around the 15, but Oxy was called for holding in the end zone, so Redlands was awarded a safety to make it 20-15. This turned out to be a break for Oxy, because instead of having the ball at the Oxy 15 with a chance to get 6, UR only got 2.

On the ensuing kickoff, Schafer bobbled the ball at the 25, and UR was also called for a block in the back and ended up with the ball at its own 17. Redlands again couldn't move the ball and had to punt. Oxy then went 55 yards in 6 plays, including a 20-yard pass from Goltz to Chris Washington, a 23-yard run by Goltz, and a 10-yard TD pass from Goltz to Jason Lehman. Goltz hooked up with Washington for the 2-pt conversion, and Oxy led 28-15 at 11:23. UR fumbled on its next possession. Oxy used up a couple of minutes, but Scott Saunders slipped on a 4th-and-2, giving the Bulldogs the ball at their own 36 with 8:46 to play. UR QB Steve Smith was intercepted by Daniel Tromello, but Oxy went 3-and-out, and Groh's punt went for a touchback. Redlands could do nothing on its last 2 possessions, and Oxy ran out the clock. Very curious clock management by Redlands, which didn't use any of its timeouts in the second half.

For Oxy, Goltz was 11-for-22 for 131 yards and a TD; Goltz also rushed for 99 yards on 11 carries. Jason Haller rushed for 137 yards on 7 carries and his 2 long TD runs. Chris Washington had 6 catches for 75 yards.

For Redlands, Smith was 13-for-34 for 113 yards and one interception. Zach Schafer rushed for 115 yards on 18 carries, and Jeff Stewart gained 70 yards on 13 carries.

Oxy had 390 total yards (259 rushing and 131 passing); Redlands had 304 (162 and 142).

Oxy took full advantage of the unfortunate injuries to Redlands QB Dan Selway and noseguard Mitchell Crocco, both of whom were obviously missed by the Bulldogs. Steve Smith was game, but he doesn't have Selway's experience, running ability, and lightning quick release. The Oxy defense exploited Smith's inexperience and sacked him 7 times.

Oxy is 4-0 (2-0 SCIAC) and next week plays at Chapman (3-1). Redlands is 3-1 and 1-1 in conference and plays next Saturday at Whittier, which is 1-3 and 0-1 in the SCIAC.

OxyBob

Nice recap by OxyBob. Redlands was simply outplayed last night. Outside of a few hiccups, Oxy just plain executed better in all phases of the game. Redlands running game is very strong but with no passing attack to keep the defense honest it was an uphill battle. While Steve Smith is a capable signal caller, not having Dan Selway under center changes Redlands game plan and capabilities dramatically.

I was schocked at the big runs the Redlands defense gave up. Clearly losing two starters on the defense line plays into it but the truth is they were sloppy and did not tackle very well. Kudos to the Oxy offensive line, they played well all night.

Overall, Oxy was very impressive. They are talented on both sides of the ball and they have an amazing punter who is a huge weapon. I just don't see them losing any games this regular season if they play as well as they did last night.

While Redlands still has a strong team, they will need to regroup and finish the regular season strong and in a big way. Highly doubtful that the SCIAC could get two teams into the dance but stranger things have happened. Good luck to Oxy the rest of the way.

PS: It was a pleasure meeting OxyBob last night. First poster from the boards who I have had the chance to meet in person. Hopefully, I will get to meet a few more this season.

RFB

P.S. Nice meeting RFB and his beautiful little daughter. However, I will still bag on UR. Sorry.

Now I would not expect you to go soft on us. While I did say I can't see Oxy losing if they play like last night, they did piss on their leg twice last year. Nothing would make me happier to see a repeat performence.
