Well, for awhile it looked like Tigersports' dire prediction might come true, but just like last week, the team remained poised during the rough stretches and picked each other up (the defense in the first half, the offense in the third qtr, and special teams all game).

Nice shots . . . do you have the entire season accessible on the web?

Thanks.  I have a few from earlier games and I am starting to take more shots each game (earlier I caught myself doing more watching than shooting).  Here is a link to the other galleries:  http://gallery.me.com/aybates#gallery

Oxy-Chapman write-up from the Chapman point of view in the Orange County Register:

QuoteChapman misses chances in loss to Occidental

Missed opportunities in the first half and a porous defensive effort in the third quarter led to the demise of the Chapman football team against Occidental College on Saturday night.

The Panthers tried to come back, scoring two fourth-quarter touchdowns but ran out of time in a 31-28 loss to the Tigers in front of 2,107.

The Panthers (3-2) led, 7-3, at the half but yielded 28 third quarter points, mostly because they allowed the Tigers to convert big plays and third-and-long situations in the quarter.

Chapman quarterback Eric Marty connected with Dan Delahoussaye for a 27-yard touchdown to get Chapman within 3 with 2:36 left.

The Tigers (5-0) recovered the ensuing onside kick, and the Panthers couldn't do anything with the 14 seconds they had left once they got the ball back.

Marty completed 17 of 33 passes for 316 yards and three scores, but he threw three interceptions, two which were deep in Occidental territory in the first half and proved costly.

The Panthers also had an apparent 15-yard touchdown run by Mike Christensen in the second quarter called back because of a holding penalty.

Christensen, who set the school record last week with 262 yards rushing in a 35-21 victory over Whittier, finished with 72 yards and a touchdown.

Tigers quarterback Justin Goltz completed 24 of 28 passes for 250 yards and two touchdowns.

No way there was 2,107 in attendance. Half of that, maybe, and that's a stretch. The only way Chapman justifies that number is if they count all of the players, coaches and cheerleaders, as well as anyone who happened to walk by the field during the game.

That sounds like something out of my old Junior High newspaper days.  Did Oxy even play or did they just happen to be somewhere in OC when Chapman "yielded" 28 points in the 3rd quarter?

And what's the deal with the Chapman band?  Are they trying take the "most intrusive band in college football" mantel away from SC?  And what's with playing while the QB calls signals or, on some occasions, during the start of the play?  Isn't that illegal?  [yes -- 9-2-1-b-6:  "Persons subject to the rules, including bands, shall not create any noise that prohibits a team from hearing its signals."]  Pity the poor folks with 50-yard line seats getting inundated with Kashmir played AT them after EVERY play.

I rekindled a love for 'Kashmir' after viewing barefooted young goddess, Lucia Micarelli, playing a Pied Piper violin version at an Ian Anderson concert but the Chapman band killed that.

It was bad enough they played during the snap count, but the sound they were giving off was bad enough to drive the "rats" off the Pine Bowl 1000 miles away. (Listening on the web)

That was Chapman's 4th straight loss to Oxy. Maybe they should switch from Kashmir to The Song Remains The Same.

Oxy's 28-point quarter reminds me of another song title from the Physical Graffiti album -- Trampled Underfoot.

LOL OxyBob.  Any time you can combine two of the finer things in this world --  D3 Football and the Zep -- it's a good day (unless it's the CU band playing the songs).

Was that really Chapman's own band or do they rent a high school band, like Whitter used to do for their homecoming games in the past?

On to the next game. The Tigers take on a Leo team that is coming off its first win and will try to give the men in orange and black their biggest fight of the year. However, like last year, I expect the Tigers to win this game after having a solid week of practice (where all mistakes from the Chapman game have been resolved).
Expect the Leos to fall quickly.

Btw, Can't wait to step foot on the ULV campus. Haven't been their since last may when I completed my grad. school program. Should be exciting watching Oxy v.s the Leos while having a beer or two and pizza from the Warehouse.

FTP........Sometimes playing for the love of the game is tough.  Good luck the rest of the way.  You and DAW are loyal fans and sounds like supportive parents.  I miss not seeing my son play and next fall seems like an eternity away.  Enjoy it while it lasts, regardless of the outcome.

Thanks Snoop...  We take it all in stride (Of course we'd love for our mighty poets to win!!) but more importantly we know this time is limited and we are just happy to see our son playing. ;D

Why is everyone speaking so lowly of Chapman, I was at that game and the panthers would probably beat the tigs if they played them again. The only excuse Occidental has is that they were missing their running back, but Chapman was missing players as well. Occidentals secondary is a joke, and probably the one very weak link on their team.  People discuss Chapmans breakdown in the third quarter. Chapman also had 4 opportunities in the red zone and only capitalized on one. Occidental needs to consider themselves lucky for getting out of this one alive. With the injuries on Redlands, and occidentals unwilligness to schedule tougher opponets, this is probably the best team they will face in 2008.

as I anxiously await Bob's reply......:)

Yes, I saw you at the game. You were one of the guys standing on the Chapman sideline holding your helmet up on kickoffs, right? By the way, BigDT, just wondering, does Coach Owens approve of his players logging onto message boards and ragging on opponents to whom they just lost?

Easy Bob...BigDT does have 5 total tackles on the year.  He's Champman's defensive stopper!

Yeah, seeing BigDT on the other side of the ball probably means you're a scrub too.
