QuoteI agree that CLU's defense gives them a good chance to win the game against UR. The big question is whether the Kingsmen offense can move the ball, and I don't think they will be able to enough to win the game. Otherwise I agree with everything in your post 100%.

At least it won't be played during thunderstorms. Outlook for Saturday is 85 degrees at 1PM. And like an idiot, I'll be sitting in it.

Growler-

Thanks for the link.  Congrats to Oxy and Redlands on their regional rankings.  It's nice to see two SCIAC schools ranked like that, and I think Redlands' squashing Whitworth has something to do with that.

OK, so I went to the page with the rankings and found a link to a story on the Gustavus Adolphus chain gang.  Loved the story, and especially this quote from the group's founding member, Harry Frey:

Quote"Moose Malmquist, who was the athletic director back then, came up to me and some friends of mine at one of the games and asked if we'd like a job," Frey said. "I started working with the old postmaster here in town, Poopsie Monahan, for awhile until he got hurt after falling off a ladder and we had some others who came and went early on."

Anyone know the tailgate /parking lot situation at Chapman?

The Leos season finale is there this Saturday night and me and some buddies were considering partaking in some pre-game festivities. Thanks
Hail to the Orange, Hail to the Green,

2-6,

My suggestion would be to go to parking garage that is just west of the University entrance. We had a nice little ditty up on the top level last year. Its a nice veiw and the security guards are no problem.

sincerely,

SnowLeopard, get off the 57 fwy at Orangewood and go left (east), the road turns to Walnut and the parking is under the field on the right. Check the east( temporary
bleachers), there is a parking lot next to them that is usually open for tailgating. If not you will need to go to the west parking lot where FTP suggested. It is something new this year with the east parkimg lot. Also, if you have a son playing, meet him by the gym where a new plaza has been installed with water features by the team"s gate.
If you tailgate in the east parking lot I will try to find you and introduce myself.  The ULV/CU rivalry dates back several years and it is usually a good game. Except for the past few years the average point differential for the teams were 2-3 points. But I am sure OWYBOB  has access to the stats and will share them with us. Good luck and I hope
we have a competative game.

scandi,

I only saw CLU play Oxy and simply was not impressed with their ability to pass the ball.  If they can't pass against UR, I think they are in for a long day.  I know it isn't fair to judge the offense on one game but the other SCIAC  teams they played ahve weak defenses and how CLU  did against them mayy not be a real indicator of their ability to move the ball.

If you have seen them play, I am curious to know what you think of their pass offense.  It is strange because while at Chaminade, McEnroe was a pass first coach.  Now, it seems he is intent on running.  Is that because that is their strong point.  I looked at the stats but they can be very misleading.

I am curious to hear your take.
While at Chaminade McEnroe coached the following talent:

QB's:
Chris Turner, Starting QB for the Maryland Terrapins
Ryan Griffin, Tulane travel squad QB as a Freshmen

Skill Positions:
Marcus Everrett (Chaminade DB/WR), Starting WR at UCLA
Logan Paulson (Chaminade DE/TE), Starting TE at UCLA
Adrian Aye-Darko (Chaminade DB/WR), Starting Safety at Duke
Derron Juarez (Chaminade RB), DB at USD
Peter Ma (Chaminade WR), WR at Harvard
Aubrey Smith (Chaminade DB/WR), WR/Safety at SDSU

With those guys on the field I'd probably toss the rock too.
Go TIGERS!!!

Tough days for Tiger Football.

Go to "General Football" and then the "Pool C" thread and read Frank Rossi's post number 138.  A detailed analysis/prognostication re the playoff bids . . . very well done and informative.

Not a pretty picture for the Bulldogs . . . which in turn strongly suggests that we Tiger fans start booking flights and lodging getting us to Salem in time for the noon kick-off . . .

but first things first . . .

Go Oxy, Pound the Poets . . . Io Triumphe

Well, Redlands needs to get past a pretty good Cal Lu team first. If they do win, the selection commitees past history does not bode well for Redlands. It would be a shame though because they are a darn good football team.

RFB-  I agree it would be a shame, just like it was back in 2006.  Lets hope they both get in, but like you said, Cal Lu is no pushover.  If Oxy is the lone SCIAC team in the playoffs, I hope they can win a game or two to help out the SCIAC as a whole.

It's a shame that a "second tier bowl" structure is not in place for the Western teams like what the East Region has in the form of the ECACs.

I imagine there would be support from schools/fans if say the #2 teams from the SCIAC and NWC - in this season's case Linfield and either CLU or Redlands - got to play in a "post-season bowl game" for bragging rights after the regular season was finished?

although not as prestigious as going to the NCAAs it can be viewed as an "award" of sorts to teams that have good seasons - not to mention giving the senior class one more opportunity to play the game they love before hanging it up.

Sorry FTP and DAW . . . looking forward to a fun day at Oxy's homecoming notwithstanding the fact that I have yet to hear the Oxy cheer/yell squad ever even touch our classic triumphal chant:

Io Triumphe! Io Triumphe!
