Ralph, we know that the Texas schools get poked in the eye with the same sharp stick, and it's a shame for the players. The high seed doesn't mean too much in Texas or on the West Coast.

You hate to whine, but geez, it gets tiresome.

I've sympathized with you guys for years, but this year I feel it directly too.  MUC was obviously going to be the overall #1 seed, but NCC (#1 in the North) would objectively be #2 (or at worst #3) - nonetheless, North plays East in the semis because MUC (whom they obviously expect to win the East) can host any North champion without a plane ride.

Ours is a minor (and one-year) complaint compared with yours, but it really sucks that the NCAA is so blatantly cheap and willing to say 'screw the seeds'.

At least they aren't using computers to figure out who is going to play in the Stagg Bowl.
Everyday is payday in paradise.

...Hopefully the Willamette folks will broadcast as I can't make it up this weekend.

That sucks!  I'm a NW conference fan and will be rooting for Willamette but have been planing to listen to your broadcast.  I've caught a couple this year and really enjoy your style, along with your partners on the air.

Every other #1 plays #8.

Every other #2 opens at home.

Can you feel the love? ???
If Oxy wins, they will be the home team until Salem. :)

That would NEVER happen in any other bracket.
The West region got so screwed.

It would happen in the South. What if HSU hadn't gotten in and Millsaps and UMHB were still 1-2?

Or they truly feel North Central is the fourth-best No. 1 seed.

and they probably are. More the reason to ship 'em out on the coast to show how really good they are.
That goes for the King too.

The West bracket gets screwed again. It's becoming so laughable how this process keeps repeating itself. Sure would be nice for Willamette and Oxy to get to play a higher seed to start the playoffs like every other region. Best of luck to Oxy next week in Salem.

Pat,

Do you think they really would have pitted Millsaps against UMHB in the first round because of their tight-fistedness?

Do you have any idea why they changed the West bracket at the last minute, after initially planning to send two Midwest schools out to the west coast?

What's Gonna Happen at Whittier??? Is it true that Hammer and his staff will get their walking papers. I am new to D3 football. How often do coaches get fired?

It's not just football.  A couple of years ago when Oxy basketball was sent to Mississippi, they still got screwed in a last minute seeding change.  Obama was on 60 Minutes tonight pushing for a DI playoff.  Maybe he can pull some strings for a better D3 seeding. ;D

After all of the ragging that we did on the NCAA for the travel snafu in the 2006 playoffs, they won't forget that Millsaps to UMHB is under 500 miles.  :D

He was asking a question.  Don't always look for the bad.

I think Fear the Poet could probably answer your question but, despite the awful year they had, I would be surprised.  Just my opinion.  BTW, welcome to the board, have fun, read first.

When a guy's email address is sportsjerk and he asks a question like this on his first post, I just have to wonder. >:(

I'm sorry you are so offended by this.

you do mean like two other regions, don't you?  The Texas teams deal with this issue as well on an annual basis.  The travel thing sucks... but, it is what it is.  If teams win, then it cures all.

Congrats on the undefeated season and the Pool A.  Will plan on meeting you and the SCIAC crew in the event of a Cal Lu/Oxy first round game in Eagle Rock if the Cal Lu Pool C rumor has any gas.

Will never happen.

for Dick Kaiser's appearance.  Interesting insight on the committee's views into the tourney and hosts Eric Ren and Frank Rossi with some great questions to the NCAA d3 seleciton Com. Chair.

sciac fans can fast fwd to approximately 35:00 into the archive to avoid the eastern stuff and get right to the interview with Dr. Kaiser.
