T"hey grow big quarterbacks everywhere, even Michigan"

Not in Whittier.................  >:(
I think the Whittier QB's start the season pretty big but by the end they are small due to the constant pounding.....  ;D

Sounds like an O-line problem to me!  Feed those boys better!

You may be right about the up the middle stuff but they were able to break some very big runs up the middle against a Linfield D that was pretty good at the line and LB positions.  The Big plays seem to be Willamette's biggest weapon.

Looking at Willamette's season stats, it appears that the only game where the Bearcats broke off numerous long 50+-yard runs was against Linfield.

Welcome to the club...don't those long runs and passes drive you nuts?  Especially the ones that happen on 3rd and 10----you're thinking, "o.k. we've got them stuffed, just prevent the first down and..............WTF?  how did nobody tackle that guy?..........." as Woo or Horne race to the endzone.....  :-\
Go Cats!

No, have you seen this guy?  It says on the program that he's 6'5" and 220#, but I'm guessing he had a growth spurt since that was written!!  Big QB & fast!

I concur - big and pretty damn mobile, too! WU contained him pretty well, I thought.

Someone remarked to me during the game that a good hard sack might get him a little rattled, but I think he'd probably welcome a big hit as long as he's able to get back into the huddle on the next play.

Yeah, maybe a "good hard sack" if you can get past his O-line.  Definitely, not a Whittier O-line or at least from what I've heard!

I thought Oxy should have passed on every play. I mean their QB is huge and really stood in the pocket well. Their O-Line gave good protection also. Their running back was good though and was like a bowling ball. Oxy is a good team, they just didn't punch it in a few times when they should have to change the momentum. Also to their credit Willamette kept coming up with BIG plays that just broke Oxy's back. This also happened to Linfield when we played Willamette this year.

Did nobody check to make sure it wasn't Oxy Collins under those pads?!  ;D

Good effort, Oxy. IMO, your squad looked pretty good and would have likely won a playoff game or two had the 1st round pairings not been a joke again.
A packed student section behind an end zone cheering on guys they will actually see in class on Monday is almost as cool as The Streak.

Good entertaining points....all of you.

My live eyewitness report won't be nearly as entertaining as OxyBob's.  It was good to see him and to meet and hang out with OxyCenter63 for a bit. Sorry I didn't get to meet any of the NWC faithful.

Beautiful football weather on a tough day for the Tigers.  The boys had to execute flawlessly for 60 minutes and not give up any big plays . . . didn't happen.  The Bearcats were the better team today and the win is deserved.  BIG fellas and some serious speed there in Willamette. Good luck against the Warhawks.

The TIgers gave it all they had and fought hard for all 60 minutes, I'm incredibly impressed with and proud of this team and the staff.

The last two minutes lasted an eternity. I'm sure Bob will offer a better and more detailed explanation, but my recollection is that one of the onside kickoffs was a "do-over" because the kicker started his approach before the ref dropped his hand to start action.  Another was a dispute over whether Oxy touched the ball on the onside effort before it went 10 yards and whether it had hit a Bearcat before the 10 yard mark . . . not sure of the rest of the details. Bottom line is that Oxy didn't quit, didn't give up, and fought to the last second of the game.  Io Triumphe.

The heart and back breaker to me was the play that looked like an Oxy interception of a Willamette pass that bounced out of our guy's hands and was grabbed in the air by the Willamette player and run in for a TD . . . that was, for me, the toughest break of the day that had a few.

It was another great year for Oxy football, sorry to see it end.  Many thanks to the coaches and staff for their hard work and making the Oxy community proud.

I'll say they didn't give up.  They scored two TD's in the last 2 minutes!  It was a good game but I do think WU is the real deal this year.   Was very impressed by the Oxy crowd -- both in numbers & spirit!  Your team is very good and it is too bad that #1 had to meet #2 in the 1st round.

Sabretooth, I'm surprised you think the Willamette players are big -- I thought that's why the 1st Qtr went so badly for the Bearcats --- because they were intimidated by the BIG guys in the white & black.  I kept asking the people next to me if White just makes em look bigger & they said, No, they're big!

Thanks to all for the reports out of Salem.  Tooth, I am glad you got to make the trip.  Sounds like it was an exciting game.  Like many of you, I think Oxy would have easily prevailed had they been allowed to play like a true #2, but that will always just be what it is - the geographical realities of D3.  I hope the Bearcats continue to play as well as they have all season, and represent the West Coast deep into the playoffs.

On a different note, those of you who are a little tired of the ten yard end zone and rules prohibiting forward motion before the snap might be interested to know that, tomorrow afternoon at 2:30, the Montreal Alouettes (with special teams under the direction of former CLU Coach Scott Squires) will square off against the Calgary Stampeders for the Grey Cup (the Super Bowl of Canadian Football).  You can actually watch this one on TV if you have the VS (Versus) network.  It's channel 603 on DirecTV.

Next game, remember? Next game, next game, next game, next game.

I'm thinking specifically of Bearcat nos. 64, 74 and 94, they looked D1 huge to me . . . you're right about Goltz being big though.

There was some serious hitting going on today on both sides.

The only way the visit to Salem could have been better would be if we were hosting UWW next Saturday!
;)

You're right, 64 (Jake Forshey) & 74 (Juan Alvarado) are huge!  They're also from California!  I guess 94 doesn't look that big to me, but we're used to him.  #74 & #94 are freshmen!!

Things did look feisty out there!  But, the stakes were high.
