morning er!
Hope you and yours enjoy the hell out of this weekend!
This is a biggee!

Wow, I was pretty sure I would come back to pages of debate about why this team's fans should be at least one space behind another team's fans in the touchiness poll.  Glad I am so perceptive.

Hey Tags- You planning on sitting in the same spot as last game????

Yes - will be there exceedingly early to save them. Need me to save yours?

Sorry no Springfield game ... Had a wedding Saturday that I never would have heard the end of it if I didn't go.

I think I'll start the morning conversation off with asking why Vos & Co. doesn't have Reile back returning punts? W/ Stepnick coming off injury it would seem he'd save him the hits - This would also be a way to get the ball in Reile's hands w/ out the infamous split time.

Having him back there prevents injury to Stepnick & gives us a chance to get good field position each time - This may be very important vs. Rowan

Talk later fellas, there's work to do - ER let me know

I heard it was because Reille was so busy helping little old ladies across the street that he skips special teams practice.  Ok sorry, that will be the last time I bash windbag.  Well, no it won't, but I'll leave it alone since Tags raises a legitimate point.

On a totally unrelated point, I went to the Lightning-Capitals game last night on a whim.  I really enjoy hockey live but, having grown up in Dixie, know diddly about it.  I was sitting next a really nice guy that knew the game.  He kept trying to make conversation with me but I really had nothing to add.  The thing he kept asking me was "Why do they keep poke checking?  Do you think they should keep poke checking?"  Will one of you yankees (note, little Y) school JoseQViper on what the heck a poke check is?

fisheralum91

good point.
would also free up time sor step. to catch a breather.
Probelm is- is Reile as talented returning kicks?
Ive always been a proponent of putting your best player at every position....

The Truth 00

now thats what i'm talking about tags, a good convo starter. i think there might be some situations where he likes stepnick in there, such as when a team is punting from the 50 in (even though he muffed one against sc). he might have better hands and be a safer option in that instance. however, if reile doesn't have the hands stepnick has, put him in in an obvious punting situation where the guy has to boom the ball from his own 25 or in. now if reile isn't good at returning punts, leave him out all together. one turnover might be all rowan needs.

fisheralum91

jose- a poke check is a way for a hockey player to jar the puck away from an opponent using a poking motion with his stick.. It is becoming more prevalant because of the new rules to open up the ice surface.

The Truth 00

jose - to answer your question, a poke check is pretty much when someone takes the puck away from another player with their stick....instead of trying to knock their head off. i'd call it conservative style hockey.

JQV

Wait, I thought all checks involved body contact?  I have been picturing players poking each other with their sticks and chuckling all morning.  It is basically an attempt to steal the puck?

I am just posting away here trying to kill time until I can meet Mrs. JoseQviper for the Lightning game.  I'll go Linda Richmond on you, pretend I'm veclempt and give you a topic to discuss amongst yourselves.  Top 10 touchiest D3 football fan bases in the East Region:

1. Rowan
2. Union
3. Fisher
4. Ithaca (we have our problems)
5. Cortland
6. RPI
7. Hobart
8. Montclair
9. Springfield (does fan of angering JoseQViper count as an entire 'fan base'?)
10. Brockport

Hey!!! What the heck!!! Don't Alfred fans account for anything????  Once again, NO RESPECT!! WE GET NO RESPECT AT MAYBERRY!!! We can be touchy if we want. See??? Darn it, Joseqviper.....always overlooking the touchy AU fans!! Isn't that right, AUKaz00?

I think with my affinity toward the urinal trough prominently on record on this board, Alfred not making the "touchiest fan base" list is probably a good thing.  However, the Pep Band is not immune to a case of Tourette's when a shady call goes against the Saxons.
Check out the official card game of the AU Pep Band - Str8 Eight!

Jose-
The poke check doesnt involve body contact.
Checking itself has dropped a ton this year with the new obstruction rules.
Thus poke checks are a good alternative....

I actually intentionally left Alfred off.  The only AU fans I have ever encountered are Kaz00, Pep, and that former player that was on here those last three weeks of the season.  I thought all, including the player guy, are pretty reasonable.  You guys just kept saying "don't overlook us."  If IC or Fisher was as good as you guys and getting as little love as you were getting, we would all be raising hell on here.

Hockey afficianados, thanks for the tip.  The future Mrs. Viper and I had a blast at the game, even though we felt like Cletus and Marlene from the Simpsons with our limited understanding.

P.S. At the risk of totally steering this discussion to hockey on an important week.  What is the new obstruction rule?

fisheralum91

The NHL in order to increase scoring and thus fan base has put forth numerous rule changes in order to do so.
Taking away the neutral zone trap, increasing the hooking and obstrucion penalties and allowing 2 line passes is supposed to speed up the game and increase the size of the ice surface to allow much more flow in the game.
