How does Rowans 3-3-5 Defense stack up vs SJF's dominant O-line?

Last time SJF played a 3-3-5 Defense Jason Meyers ran for 385.....

From SJF's Website:

QuoteThe Fisher offensive line has been opening holes for the running game all season long, but has yet to play a defense as talented as Rowan's.

The St. John Fisher College football team will host Rowan University (N.J.) at 12 p.m. on Saturday in the NCAA Division III Championship East Region title game.

Fisher defeated host Springfield College 27-21 on Saturday in the Second Round of the NCAA Division III Championship to advance to the national quarterfinals (the Elite 8) for the first time in the program's 20-year history.

Fisher owns an 11-1 record on the year, the most wins in the program's history, and features an offense that ranks second nationally in scoring (40.3 points per game) and a defense that has already posted a College-record four shutouts on the year.  Last week, the Cardinals held Springfield, the No. 1 rushing offense in the country, to just 220 yards of total offense, while limiting Chris Sharpe, the nation's leading rusher, to just 69 yards on 25 carries.

This marks the fourth straight year the Cardinals have advanced to the postseason, while compiling a 37-9 record during that span.  Fisher's resume also includes the program's second Empire 8 Conference title in the last three years.

Rowan (9-2) won its 16th New Jersey Athletic Conference Championship this season to earn an automatic bid to the national tournament and defeated previously-unbeaten Wilkes University 21-14 last week.

The Profs, making their 13th NCAA appearance, have advanced to the national title game, the Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowl, five times (1999, 1998, 1996, 1995, 1993). They have also reached the national semifinals on five different occasions, including each of the last two seasons.

Rowan has one of the strongest defenses in the nation, allowing just 192 yards per game (third in Division III), including less than 50 rushing yards per outing.  The Profs also ranks fourth nationally with 4.0 sacks per game.

They don't want to run a 3-3-5

If they let him carry more than 15 times, Robinson will do the same :)

I know people will say that their speed will make up for it, but I dont buy it (as on offensive lineman).

The Rowan front goes as follows:
DE-Keith Heimerl DL Sr. 6-4 250
DT-Ed Kunder DL Sr. 6-2 255
DE-Randy Tosh DL Jr. 6-2 245

Their LBers goes as follows:
OLB-Chris Pinto DB So. 5-11 220
MLB-Andrew Yezzi LB Fr. 6-1 215
OLB-Robert Niszczak LB Jr. 6-0 220

Considering the success that SJF's O-line has had vs smaller and faster defenses this year, i'd expect to see SJF run their inside zone alot this week.

Tags this is the week for Robby to run up inside!

Now I can't believe I'm saying this, but I agree that they shouldn't go away from the middle this game. Although I'm still saying they need to get him off the tackles more - even vs. a 3-3 !!!

Their backers look to be a good size, but I agree that Fisher's line should be able to knock them back enough to give Robinson time to break through for some serious yards. In addition, I would take Robinson vs. any safety they have 75% of the time.

I know it's easy for me to sit here and type this, but I really feel this could, COULD be a long day for Rowan simply b/c of Fisher's size.

sjfcards

I think the biggest key to the game for Fisher is to establish a passing game early on. Doing that will open things up for Robinson and Reile.
I think the Fisher Line can open up some holes for the backs, and Fisher can move the ball on pretty much anybody.

If Rowan can stack the box, because of an inability to pass it might not go so well for Fisher. I still think that the Fisher D is good and can keep Fisher in the game.
GO FISHER!!!

Ha

I hope you know i was being serious....

He could give the same problems to SJF as did Silver from DVC in 2004....

Whenever the night crew has a karma love fest i always miss out on it!

I like to think I am at least assistant manager of the crew for the Cardinals....

P.S. I had a dream about the game and in that dream we lost.  Now the only other time I dreamed of Fisher losing this year was against Ithaca and that turned out ok for Fisher in the end.  So if Fisher wins this weekend I will force myself to dream of them losing next weekend, if they infact lose than I am officially a prophet.

I can understand where he would pose a problem in a drop back passing game, but I seriously doubt he'll be disrupting much else. He's only 245 lbs, and the Fisher line will be able to handle him I assume.

You'll remember that Union kept saying Fisher's line is just big & not quick and we saw Fisher dominate the LOS all day long.

I hear ya about the 2nd part, but Silver had 3 sacks for DVC in 2004 and held SJF to under 100yds passing (84 i think).  If SJF HAS to be one dimensional this weekend it wont be a pretty picture.  They need the passing game to get those big chunks of yardage, especially in the playoffs.  It would be great to see Robby with 240+ this weekend but it wont mean much if they only have 100yds passing.
