haha, i guess i motivated that #97 guy for the sc game. i'm pretty sure that was me who posted that. it could have been fan of d3 though. well whatever, i guess i'm popular.

fortheloveofthegame - interesting posts with some interesting points to back it up. i'm not sure if i see that same outcome...in fact, i'm positive that outcome won't happen. this is more fuel for sjf to go out and play the game of their lives. i think they will contend on saturday. plus, someone on here had to pick against them so that they end up winning.

I don't see any message board on http://www.d3.com/

You're the only dood on the board that doesn't know & accept that '57 can't spell.

Poor grammar and horrible spelling... it's just how he rolls.

You could but that would be silly since Scott Pitoniak wrote it.

They better read what we write.  I'd be personally offended if they didn't.  I mean, I spend literally tens of seconds composing my posts.  I'd hate to think that work wasn't making it onto some of the bulletin boards of IC's opponents.

Yeah - I can hear it now---Hey guys come take a look at what this old f*** is saying now!

Many tend to discount post patterns or what the d3 columnists write as far as bulletin board material goes.... the common retort is "Well if they need PP or what Pat or Keith write to get motivated... the player(s), coach(es), team, have a problem."

Since I talk to players and coaches, I would say d3football.com is used as a tool for adding to motivation quite a bit.  Sometimes it gives coaches an angle during a week of practice.  I think what is said on post patterns/d3football.com certainly can add fuel to an already burning fire.

If chatrooms can piss off/motivate NFL players, it stands to reason that the internet affects DIII football players too.

If coaches have players hanging out in chatrooms and on message boards instead of getting mentally & physically prepared to play their next opponent then they have bigger problems to worry about.

There always those moments of downtime.  They all read this sh*t, I talk to opponents too. I also receive email from players. Like reading the newspaper.  It is dedicated specifically to them.  It generally takes a few minutes to catch up.  Most rooms don't roll that quickly.  MIAC and LL being the exceptions.

Actually, I've gotta disagree based on a personal situation.  My history goes like this:

1995 - Assisted Sports Director of WRUC and Had Some On-Air Time for Union FB
1996 - 1997 - Sports Director of WRUC
1998 - 1999 - Law School -- Attended several games, called a couple, but no official role
2000 - 2005 - Unionfootball.com (It'll be back)
2004 - 2006 - Called games on WABY (Commercial station for Union FB games)

I bring up the history because there have been periods during which my actual exposure to the team has been a little muted (when you do the radio and don't live in the area, you're not really always visible to the team).  This year, after the Union/SJF game, a Union player came up to me at the post-game tailgate and asked me if I was really hanging up the microphone after this season (my answer was probably, but I wouldn't be disappearing from the sideline/press box completely -- whatever that means, I'll figure it out).  What stands out to me is his reaction:  he sorta puts his head down and says as we're parting, "You're our biggest fan."  Kinda choked me up...I remember when my grandfather died last year, I check the mail a week later and found a card from Coach Audino -- but it also was signed by the entire 2005 Dutchmen team.

I bring it up because, honestly, the players and coaches know I'm up in the Press Box making an ass out of myself, but they gain knowledge as to my devotion toward the program from statements I make here and what I used to write on Unionfootball.com.  So, I think players reading what we write is actually a benefit to the program.  Listen, press coverage for Division III is a little less than Division I-A, so this is a slight substitute.  Tell me that Peyton Manning never read press clippings about him during his stint at Tennessee.

So, while I agree that an obsessive focus on these boards is probably not the right thing for these players -- I believe they learn from the boards as to who is friend and foe...especially friend.  We can espouse the history of the various programs and leagues to them here because, let's face it, they're only 18 through 23 year olds generally -- they have no institutional knowledge of all this stuff.  These boards really do provide us with an indirect way to speak to the players and coaching staffs.
