Hurray!  -23K...  how low can we go?!

I wonder why the season previews are so down this year.  Hardly anyone from the east sent one in.

Jose, I agree with your points. However, I think IC uses its tradition as a selling point. Whereas Fisher doesn't have that yet, they must focus on their new facilities to attract better players. Has IC lost good players to Fisher because Fisher has better facilities? I'm sure. But has Fisher lost good players to IC because the player wanted a chance to be playing playoff football every year? No doubt. I would like to see them add the weight room and get even more of those players. We'll see what happens.

If the tradition continues to be our biggest seller, I think we are going to lose a lot of talented kids.  Let's be honest, when I was 18, the teams I was most interested in were the teams with the best facilities.  At this level, tradition isn't worth quite what it is worth with the big boys.  It is different telling a kid looking at FSU "You can come out of the same lockerrom into the same stadium where Deion, Derrick Brooks, Charlie Ward, Warrick Dunn, etc. played" than telling a kid looking at IC "You can come out of the same lockerrom into the same stadium where Ron Amato, Julian Forbes, Brian Young, and Tommy Giorgio played."

I think we have two things in our corner in recruiting (especially for kids choosing between Fisher and IC).  (1) IC girls and (2) IC Football crowds...especially Cortaca.

I think Ithaca is a better looking area than Fisher as well, if we're trying to come up with reasons for kids to choose IC.

I try to explain to the people I go to school with how hot the girls at Ithaca were and they just refuse to believe it because IC is a cold weather school. There is no doubt in my mind that IC is a better looking school than Tulane per capita. None. God, I miss rich, morally casual northeastern girls.

When asked why he chose Alfred, Brenton Brady (AU '06) said that he wanted a college where he could focus on his studies and continue to play football, and, he found the coaching staff to be "down-to-earth."

Alfred has a fine football tradition, adequate facilities (AU could use a new field house w/indoor track, basketball courts, indoor tennis courts, etc....and replace the AstroTurf!), excellent faculty/staff/academics/Incredibly gorgeous AU Dance Team and.... nothing here in these hills to distract one from realizing one's dreams. Individuals... inspired.
On Saxon Warriors! On to Victory!
...Fight, fight for Alfred, A-L-F, R-E-D!

realistic

Thats the beauty across the board of D3 Athletics, though....every recruit is going to have different reasons for choosing schools.  All the points (Facilities, Fields, Girls, Locations, etc) are valid but each kid has different criteria.

Although I do agree with the girls....that pic of the danceteam should go on all recruiting (athletes and non) materials.

Just the topic to draw me back to the boards... IC Girls!

IC is clearly the winner in the E8 when it comes to girls...

Over the past few years, I feel like there have been more women around Ithaca football.  Despite my initial skepticism, I really enjoy having the Ithaca cheerleaders at the games.   Last year was a record year for female enrollment in the First Down Club (FDC).  There were probably 10-12 new female members that were at every game cheering and wearing goofy hats... including a few who took a road trip to Utica in the rain.  The Dance team has always been "nationally recognized by ESPN."  On top of that, IC has great football mom's, grandma's, sisters, and loyal girlfriends.  Some grandma's who are willing to do good luck "bomber shots"  at the tailgates.  In short, there's no team in the E8 can compete with the bomber ladies.

Tecmo- Sorry for the lack of posting... but my current location only allows me to check out one D3 football team right now...and as for them... I can tell you they are not a contender for the LL this year.  They are getting better and better recruiting classes and closing the margin by which they lose games... they are still a few years (5-10) away from being a real threat.

I'd love to hear your thoughts on who's winning the QB competition.

I'll also be looking forward to your re-cap of the Cornell scrimmage this weekend.

Go Bombers!

Orange hat, have you checked your messages at the top of the page?

Here's Eric Ferguson's (former soccer goalie, turned football kicker) bio:

2005: Ferguson started all 16 games for the Bombers, 15 as the goalie. Ferguson, who was named an Empire 8 First Team All-Star and the Empire 8 co-Rookie of the Year, ranked second in Division III with a goals-against average of 0.31 and ranked fourth with a save percentage of 0.917. His goals-against average set a team record and his 11 shutouts tied the school record. Ferguson's save percentage and 10 wins are the seventh-highest marks recorded by a Bomber. Against Alfred, Ferguson became the first Bomber to score a goal while playing the goalie position. He was named Empire 8 Goalie of the Week three times and ECAC Upstate NY Goalie of the Week once.

High School: A graduate of Columbia High School, Ferguson was coached by Roger Seymour.  He was named to the all-New York team and was named player of the year by Fox News, Suburban Council, Section Two, and Times Union.  He also lettered in baseball.
