A few thoughts on the Cornell scrimmage:

In the two fifteen minutes halves, Ithaca won (had score had been kept) 7-3.  Bombers scored on a Juvan pass to Heenehan, who broke a tackle and ran for about fifty yards.  Juvan continues to show off his strong arm.  Heenehan has extremely good hands, and has looked like a #1 WR all through camp.

Mr Napoleone alluded to the fact we threw the ball a lot.  This has always been the case in the Cornell scrimmage, as their D-Line probably outweighs our O-Line by about 40 pounds.  We did have a few nice 4-6 yard runs, which is a victory against a D-1 school as far as I am concerned. This is part of the reason I personally would rather play a D-3 school in a scrimmage since the playcalling would be a bit more realistic.  Not clue who we'd play though, since we face just about everyone with 3-4 hours (exception being Hobart, who there doesn't seem to be much love lost for).

Our new punter was really impressive with some boomers.

The highlight of the day had to be the defense.  After being malinged throughout last year, the first team held the Cornell offense scoreless, and the entire team only gave up a field goal in the scrimmage.  Not too shabby.  The key to our D this year may be the man in the middle Phil Byers.  Lots of nice blitz packages from the linebackers, and couple of the second string LB's looking strong.  Secondary came up with a few interceptions... like I said, hopefully that scrimmage was a nice confidence boost for the defense.  As Dubbz mentioned, Coach P gave a nice fiery presence to our sideline.  I imagine he wanted badly to have a good showing against his former squad.

This isn't anywhere I am sure but, from our collective memory, does anyone remember IC beating Cornell in previous scrimmages?

cardgirl

SJF scrimmaged Buff State I think.

theicdubbz

IC won last year.  that was when Felicetti threw a TD pass to O'hara on the first play of the first drive of the scrimmage.  I think that IC won last year 28-13.  Previous to last year i am unsure.

Enforcer, Roundie... welcome back.

fear not FDC'ers  i may show up to F- lot a lil late saturday, and maybe a little sick.  IC Alumni Run 5K is at 11am on the XC course.  this is of course, after a night that will be spent on the commons.  but know that i'll be bringin my A game, just may take a while, and holding off on the venicin sandwich and sausage before the game.

Pretty impressive research / reports everyone.  def appreciated.  heres hopin Huntingdon isnt any better than Cornell... and heres hopin' my "favorite" kicker can find the uprights.... .... and split them.

FishAlum5-  Scrimage was with Buff State, afternoon and evening- Fisher looked good in the Afternoon, but kind of tired in the evening- Buff threw the ball a lot, our pass coverage was spotty but the run defense looked good- offense was spotty too, better in the afternoon than at night

FisherAlum05

I figured the Fisher offense might take some time to gel since they do have a new coordinator in Dave Parks.  They have alot of talent on the offensive side of the football and I figure they will come together to form a pretty dynamic offense.  Hopefully we start the season right with a win on saturday against Kings.  Go Fisher!!

If my memory serves me correctly, I think Buff State is a highly potent passing attack. I believe their QB must be a third year starter by now. I wouldn't worry too much if they were passing it on you. Five days til the opener...

maninorangehat

I wanted to post before the 1st game and let everyone know that I have officially retired the Orange Hat.  After all of the Rain that it soaked up during the Utica game last year it's been falling apart ever since.  Moving 3 times this off-season assisted in its eventual demise.  Guess I'll just have to buy a bombers football hat from the bookstore for $17.

Thanks to all for the updates from "Saterday"

Only 5 days away...

Buff State graduated QB Mike Mikolaichik (from my high school alma mater) and will be looking for a new starter at quarterback this year.

I'm surprised no Fisher posters haven't noticed this yet and called it to our attention. It is semantically correct, however, as Ithaca and Fisher were co-champions that year with Fisher receiving the auto bid via the tiebreaker.
