No comment...That sounded weird...anyway, Detroit is out in front by 9 now again.  Dallas shouldn't be allowed in the playoffs with a loss to the lions! Dallas may be swiftly run out of the playoffs

Sir Spiedie

Bucs have reverted to form. How the mighty have fallen!

Sir Spiedie

I do not remember reading about any coaching changes after the end of the season in E8 or LL. is that correct?

Happy New Year E8!

That Boise State game was awesome!

I hate d1 football, but that was sweet.  Swear they should do a playoff system but they are so money driven that they don't give two craps.

The Truth 00

i want to drop a "holy" F bomb on post patterns so bad right now because its one of the only words i have to describe that OU/Boise St. game. congrats to boise...that head coach dug deep in the bag of tricks and although the last 2 plays of the game were great plays, the game tying score on the hook and ladder was siiiiiick.

don't get me wrong, i respect them and all but they beat an oklahoma team that wasn't on the same level as an ohio st/florida/lsu team. i guess i can't mention michigan in the same breath bc they looked like dogcrap today. another thing: the zabransky kid rubs me the wrong way. maybe its that big "Z" tattoo he has on his arm. you have to give him credit though...i thought he was out of it after that interception. (by the way: horrible decision on his part to throw a fieldside 15 yard out - there's qbs in the nfl that can't make that throw.)

Happy New Year E8Nation.

The Boise State game was incredible.  I have to disagree with Booby.  That isn't proof that D1 needs a playoff system, it is proof that D1 needs to do away with the BCS and go back to the bowl system.  All the BCS has done is make all the non-title game bowls feel like consolation games.  Whoever thought both head coaches would be asked if they were disappointed to be playing in The F*ing Rose Bowl.

All sports are king of the hill contests.  But, College Football (especially Major D1 College Football) is unique in that it has many different hills.  That is the result of many phenomena (tons of teams, short schedules, etc) but basically, it is about bragging rights.  Now, the BCS has placed so much importance on the NC that some of the bragging rights have been lost in the wash.  Think about it like this.  The Gators are 12-1, beat Tennessee at Tennessee, beat Georgia, beat FSU at FSU, and won the SEC title.  If they go out and lose the NC game, everyone is going to think it is somehow a dissapointment.  Five years ago, that is the dream season for all Gator fans.  As further proof of how important non-NC game wins are in College Football, per their tradition the Gators are getting SEC Champ rings.  How many NFL Players have Conference Champ rings?

I say, go back to the old Bowl system.  Play them all on New Year's day.  And let the bowls be about matchups you don't get to see very often.  I mean, how great would Paterno vs. Bowden have been last year if it wasn't one of the underling BCS games?  Ohio State has never played UF. etc.

+k to the E8Nation for New Years.

Happy New Year, E8 Nation, indeed!

AUPepBand thinks it's slightly unfair for an outstanding DI football team in a traditionally weaker football conference to be excluded from consideration for a national championship because of the money and politics. Granted, Pep would much rather that AU get into the D3 dance than Curry, but if Curry wins their conference, they deserve a shot.

A DI playoff system could easily incorporate all of the 30+ bowl games, with the lesser bowls hosting first round games. Cut regular season schedule back to 11 games. Take your top 32 teams and seed them. Play first round bowl games first  Saturday in December, culminating in New Year's Day title game (with top three bowls rotating for finals).

Then the national championship will have been decided where it ought to be decided....on the field.

Boise State may not be able to beat Ohio State. But they beat an Oregon State team 42-14 that in turn upset USC, which manhandled Michigan, which went toe-to-toe with the Buckeyes, which is all nothing but conjecture on Pep's part.

Fourth-and-18 from midfield....Boise perfectly executes the hook-and-ladder (an SLU favorite play) for a game-tying TD, after apparently throwing the game away with the 15-yard-out pass intercepted and returned for OU's go-ahead TD. The OT two-point conversion was incredible!
