'gro - Ithaca recently got a $10 million gift to help build a new Athletics Center.

It is pretty rediculous.  Here is the link http://www.ithaca.edu/aecenter/

Theres a virtual tour that gives a very good idea of the whole thing.

I've seen it before, that's why I said IC was doing big things. Place looks great.  If you go to RPI Athletics they have a video of their planned complex.

very impressive -- also nice to see that the Bombers made the cut for the video.

I don't know very much of RPI's campus, but this is all going to be off of the Ice Arena right?  Is the a completion date for the whole project?

RPI's should be ready for '08 season

Any new plans for facilities upgrades at Alfred or other NY schools? Cortland, Fisher, and St. Lawrence have new facilities the past 5-10 years.  Union gave "the Frank" an upgrade recently (which I think they will regret in the future and should have gone all out on a stadium). Ithaca and RPI have big plans for athletics. UR has fauver stadium, still in ok shape.

Alfred's FB team is coming along but if the facilities don't follow how are you gonna convince those kids to come out to the woods for 4 years?

Hartwick?? steel cage has got to go.

AU gets $10 mil for expanding its performing arts center to include a 500-seat proscenium theater and enhancing the fine arts/performing arts experience. AU gets $10 mil to endow some profs and expand its Kazuo Inamori School of Engineering, then gets $5 mil from the state to augment the $10 mil gift. AUPepBand is waiting for Senor RT's pops to give his $10 mil to AU to build a field house....

...but for the time being, the kids apparently like it out here in the woods!  8)

Truth be told, "Kazoo School of Engineering" is rather appropriate. When AU's ceramic engineers celebrated their patron saint in Mayberry, the ceramic engineering profs assembled a kazoo band and marched in each year's St. Pat's Parade...headed by AU's very own Irish leprechaun Sir John McMahon, dean of the school, and including RPI grad and glass science Prof. Bill "Voice of the Saxons" LaCourse.

When Inamori (of Kyocera fortune) made his donation to AU essentially renaming the school of engineering, AUPepBand considered suggesting a kazoo band for the dedication ceremony, but showed great restraint in declining to do so.

Here's a link to a brief biography of Kazuo:

When's the Spiedie Fest? Sometime in June? Sir Pep should make an effort to attend and pay a visit to Ms. Pep in Binghamton.

Great story about why the BCS sucks so bad... and the man responsible. About 3/4 of the way down in the story is a quote from an Ithaca administrator.

The Truth 00

a couple things as i catch up on the boards....

springfield usually has at least one night game on the schedule, sometimes 2 (when west conn was on the schedule). frank, you gotta love the springfield-union matchup at night for the first game of the season. that one this past year that started at 9pm was great.

springfield shares with field hockey and lacrosse. there was a rumor that the concrete surface (articficial turf) at benedum field couldn't be replaced with synthetic field turf because the field hockey program likes the faster surface.  hello???? there is zero give in that turf but i can't say its the crappiest surface in the e8 because alfred (same year as springfields) and hartwicks are awful. you can't even see the lines at hartwick (that place blows).

that new a&e center is awesome. i just hope that springfield's new facilities aren't half-ass because ithaca is going the extra mile to improve their facilities.

budcrew - i didn't feel like reading through that whole article but this year pretty much proves that the bcs worked. boise st was evenly matched with a second-tier oklahoma program, michigan got worked by usc further proving that they didn't belong in the bcs title game, louisville didn't really pull away from wake until the late 4th. my only problem is notre dame. they've lost 9 bowl games in a row. that matchup against lsu was ridiculous. that was a home game for lsu. you could see the caliber of athletes of lsu were clearly superior to nd's. i feel like there's this bias for notre dame and they get so much exposure because of their tv contract with nbc. its getting pretty bad.

college football is clearly a big money business and schools are no doubt benefitting from the bcs. with all this being said, i'd still like to see them go to a 8-16 team playoff and have a similar format to what some of the e8ers have suggested. however, they did get the right national championship last year and this year (that could be a premature comment because it hasn't happened yet). also, one more beef: a january 8th national title game...JAN 8TH. are you kidding me?? these "amateur" athletes have been playing football since august 1st. i know its just another week added onto the season but its getting ludicrous.

The Truth 00

ok, lets generate some convo and make nfl picks. if skip bayless is qualified to do this, then i am too.

colts over chiefs 35-21 (manning is too much for chiefs d)
seahawks over cowboys 24-21 (tight game but homefield advantage favors hawks)
pats over jets 24-17 (repeat of 1st matchup with belichek taking down mangini)
giants over eagles 34-31 (yea this is a stretch but i watched lomas brown fumble through why the giants would prevail and i'll take that. plus, i'm so sick of ron jaworski sweating the eagles so i'll pick against them...plus, i hate the eagles. eli comes back strong!)

i posted a link earlier in the week from plaschke (la times) about how he thinks the bcs is working well.

tgp agrees on indy and ne.  however, tgp feels the upset will be dallas over seattle.  the hawks - even with great home field - are too banged up.  parcells will whip his boys into shape this week.  it wasn't too long ago big d was the hottest team in the league and seattle was an afterthought.

tgp is no eagles fan either, but the truth of the matter is that the nyg just plain suck.  they lose this game and coughlin is finally out giving some other coach a chance to get into eli's screwed up head (especially after phillip rivers and the chargers go on a sb run).
