The Truth 00

yea i was at that game. some friends and i made the trek there. i don't know if i'll be able to make the trip this year...it depends on work. it will most certainly be a game-time decision.

The Truth 00

and you're right...there was no shot they would have scored with the new clock rules. i don't know how much i like that new rule by the way. it really only affects division I because of the television timeouts. it shouldn't even apply to d3 in my opinion.

where in the hell is jose? he hasn't been on here chirping about the gators absolutely destroying the buckeyes. it was great seeing ohio state lose. and by the way pep, there was one writer in the AP who voted boise state #1. i think he was from new mexico or something.

Sir Spiedie

The big, dominant DI schools (notably Florida) hate the rule changes on the way time is kept. That is because, all other things being equal, the fewer the number of plays, the better the chance for an upset. I'm for upsets, go rule change!

If that how he is before the cameras - just imagine the locker room.  Sort of reminds me of Sergeant Snorkle in Beetle Bailey comic strip - %#@%^* and on top of that "we sucked, too."

At least he is in touch with his feelings.

Imagine if Parcells had expressed his true feelings this year?

Nice trip, eh? Surprised you found Alfred...nestled away mid the Empire State Hills, 'neath the watchcare of sentinel pines!

Did you actually go beyond the traffic light to see Alfred's bustling downtown? Did you dine in one of our fine restaurants? BTW, DP Dough has closed its doors in Alfred. No more DP Dough delivery.  :'(

This is the Truth---the Alfred Sun does NOT (I repeat...NOT!) have any writers for the AP. But it just goes to show you there are folks out there swimming against the current in the river of media sentiment.

Good morning, E8 Nation! Y'all have a +Karma day!

Pep was in the Alfred Police Department's new digs just the other day. Village Hall is being renovated and the Police Department has just moved into its new quarters. The place has a nice bench with a pole with handcuffs attached to it....where they seat their (quoting Police Chief Tim O'Grady) "clients" such as The Truth 00, The Whole Truth and Nothing But the Truth, so help your God.

Pep thinks it only appropriate that Alfred's Police Chief be named Chief (formerly Officer) O'Grady!

Truth 00: If you make it to the Springfield-AU contest this year, please stop over and say hello to the band. Pep would be happy to give you a tour of the town including the Police Department. Would normally take only a few minutes of your time, but Pep has stories for every building...as a result of his life sentence in Alfred.

Book recommendation for the E8 8Nation -- "The Tender Bar" by JR Moehringer
Takes which takes place largely in a neighborhood bar in Manhasset,NY. One thing this transplanted Floridian misses is the neighborhood bar. Basically none in Florida. The bars tend to be real dives which can be downright dangerous "cut your way in and shoot your way out" or even worse,  franchise operations like Ruby Tuesday. Nothing in between.
Is the neighborhood bar still alive and well in NY?

I was traveling the country with offense/defense football camps a couple of years ago.  I was supposed to meet 2 friends in DC but got backed up in traffic.  They told me to buy some beer in maryland (baltimore) cuz the bars closed later their.  I apparently went into the rong part of town and found myself parrallel parking my uhaul at about 1:55 in front of a bar.  I went in, and got patted down between two locked steel doors.  Even the security was lookin at me like "What are you thinkin?"  When i entered, the record scratched, and every head in the bar turned to me.  It was like that scene outta the animal house when they go into that one bar. and the guy asks if he can dance with his girl.  I think "play that funky music white boy" started playing in everyone's head even if it wasn't on the speakers.  I went to the bar and placed an order for a case of bud to the bartender from behind a bulletproof barricade, put my money on a lazy susan, gave it a spin, got my beer and headed out.  Funny part was, everyone was cordial but i think it was cuz they looked at me like "Damn, that must be one bad mofo for having the guts to walk in here."  Little did they know that i think i changed my pants when i got to DC.  Similar?

In other news... try the book Bleachers.  Great football book and only about 250-300 pages i think.  Easy reading but some serious underlying issues.

Go Saints!

"Bleachers" by John Grisham was the first book Pep had read in several years as recreational reading was a virtual unknown pleasure for AUPepBand. "Bleachers" was recommended by a Herrick Library colleague. A quick, compelling read that introduced Pep to the world of books, which is probably a good thing for a guy who's employed as a library assistant.

Grisham has become one of Pep's favorite authors. Another favorite is Pat Conroy, who wrote "Prince of Tides," "The Great Santini" (both made into movies) and "The Water Is Wide," about his teaching at an island school in Georgia...which Pep was reading while riding along I-95 in Georgia on the AU bus with 30 students enroute to Florida for a Habitat for Humanity Collegiate Challenge Spring Break Blitz Build.

As for neighborhood bars...AUPepBand hasn't frequented said establishments since overkill during college days in Morrisville at "The Place" and/or Keegan's Town House.

Pep

At some point I will come to expect these responses.  Until that point, you cease to amaze me.   I am a guy who has been to a lot of places and even more situations.  But you, I feel as though you have stories about my stories.  I love it.  Keep 'em coming.  N tell jordan i wish him the breast.  Things there will only get better if you give it time with help from the bottom.  If he wants to stay there (which isn't that bad as I have found out) he is the type of guy that can turn things around with a lot of determination (which I think he has when it comes to bball) especially because at the D level in NY you need 1 or 2 athletes and 3-7 guys that buy into your program each year.  Ya know, it amazes me that a school like AA has not become a bball powerhouse.  If you look at their soccer program they obviously have athletes and at the D level (not to diminish the competition) sometimes that is all you need.
By the way, I read that in the two days i was supposed to be "observing", after which my teacher left every day at 8:30 and came back at 4 oclock and said "how'd it go?".

Sir Spiedie

Pep, If you haven't already read him, a great book to read on the way to Florida would be Double Whammy or Stormy Weather by Carl Hiaasen. They both carry the Sir Spiedie Seal of Approval.
