TGP occasionally wonders about attendance stats at the D3 level.

Certainly some schools benefit from long standing tradition, solid student body and community support.

However, does anyone else think that some programs may simply benefit from being "the only game in town" due to the "remoteness" of the campus?

Could you be referring to the three of us out here in Mayberry?

TGP was only half kidding with Pep with the "remoteness" comment.  Geneva is certainly no bustling metropolis by any means.

I think you have to question the numbers themsleves.  IC Students/Faculty/Staff are let in with just ID, no tix.  Are these ppl counted?  I know Cortaca adds a ton of people, but did IC really come in #2 in '05 and drop to the 150's in '06?

I think the numbers themselves are meaningless if only because it is so hard to track at D-III stadiums.

Alright, Pep will be perfectly honest here. After Pep thought Merrill Field numbers from 2005 were too low, Pep asked AU SID...how does one determine attendance at AU games?

"I just sort of look at the crowd and make a rough estimate," he said, to which Pep replied, "I think the numbers are a bit low."

Hence, AU's attendance went way up in 2006 over 2005....but Pep also noticed more "oldtimers" coming out of the hills for games in 2006, and Pep thinks the SID's guesstimates were closer this year, but again, only an estimate.

They say Merrill Field seats 5,000. Was Merrill Field, on average, about half full in 2006? Pep would say there were a few games (Thiel, Norwich-Homecoming, Fisher) that it was probably close to 80% full. Other games, due primarily to weather, were maybe 1/4 full.

Speaking of the Johnnies, check this out if you haven't seen it, sort of remarkable.

Hey, TGP, if you're gonna kid with Pep, give him all you got! Pep is the baby in his family and was "nurtured" by three older siblings' incessant jabs.

Chairman: Agreed that weather adversely affected attendance in 2006. It was one heck of a wet season. Hosting the Cortaca in 2005 certainly helped IC's numbers last year, whereas Pep thinks it's the good teams that locals have heard of that draws a crowd. Pep knows that Hornell folks like to see Ithaca play at Alfred. But how many will come out for Husson?

Ok, signing day was yesterday, the class of 2008 is now in play for D1. i was wondering how many kids that didn't get a DI scholarship might be knocking on DIII doors, but then I thought not many because:
1. D1 recruiting classes were  95% in place since October, despite the last minute drama with a few players.
2. The opportunity to apply at a DIII school has pretty much ended by now. (I guess someone on the bubble could have applied at several schools just to keep options alive.)
3. many of the DI prospects don't have DIII academics.

Any insight here?

+k for posting that, Spiedie... Pep believes Alex Yunevich coached fathers and their sons in his 36 seasons, but grandchildren? Pretty incredible.

TGP thinks pt 3 sums it up, b/c there aren't many D3 schools that are gonna look at a kid - no matter how big and fast they are if they only have a 700-something on the SAT.

However, re: pt 2, app deadlines at most d3 schools are more "suggested" than enforced (perhaps contrary to popular opinion).  Just b/c it's past Feb 1 doesn't mean that kids can't still apply.  In fact, many schools will be receiving apps for this fall's freshman class up and until the end of the summer.

Jose...I think Fisher helps your numbers...and it is also more recent...because A)Fisher-Ithaca is becoming a very important game on the schedule. B) Fisher fans at least see Ithaca football as the marking point so since it's only about an hour 15 away..a lot of fisher fans make the drive down the back roads to the second best college in Ithaca... (sorry have a lot of family that is Cornell alum)

Ok I'm gonna ramble for a minute because Pep would appreciate this story...

My Grandfather played trumpet for the Big Red Band, while he was at Cornell he has a drum major by the name of Henry Heimlich... the guy who invented the heimlich manuvuer and was inspired for the heimlich maneuver by his baton falling on him one day

You're the only dood on the board that doesn't know & accept that '57 can't spell.

Poor grammar and horrible spelling... it's just how he rolls.

Alfred University some time ago awarded an honorary degree to the same Henry Heimlich. And since it's the offseason and Pep likes telling stories, and Heimlich reminds Pep of the CPR training he received. Within a month of receiving CPR training (Alfred-Almond Central School had a sixth grader collapse and die in school, resulting in community training), Pep had to use CPR on an elderly woman who collapsed in a shopping plaza parking lot on a hot day....

On another day, Pep stopped at Village Cafe in Arkport for lunch with one of the junior peps. While sitting at the counter eating, Pep sees a man walking over to said counter pointing to his throat. First guy at the counter ignores the old gentleman. Pep rises, asks the man if he's choking and the guy nods yes. Pep gets behind the guy and begins Heimlich....the guy's teeth fall out in his hands. "Did I get it?" Pep asks, getting a definitive no...Pep continues and successfully forces a piece of meat out of his throat. The gentleman rushes into the rest room, then a few minutes later returns to the table with his wife and other couple who were oblivious to what had just happened.

Hurrah for Henry Heimlich!

Now how did the baton falling on him inspire him to come up with the Heimlich Maneuver?

i think the white pants are pretty cool.  They definately will look good with the white away uniforms.  Will probably look good with the home jerseys as well but i dont know.  Ithaca should get a new jersey design.  They never change from what i can remember.  IC guys?

No way.

Old School...classic...good.

I go with regulator (over on LLPP) on this one.  Changes like that start to creep toward the Oregon territory.  Not good.

Those Fisher unis are ugly.  What is with all the lines going everywhere?

Bomber unis need nothing new.  Do the Yankees need new uniforms?  What about the Celtics?  What about the Packers?  I am with Realistic.

The Bombers did make a slight change to the jerseys like two or three years ago.  They moved the number on the sleeve from the side of the sleeve up to the top of the shoulder pad.  They got rid of the white and blue stripe trim on the sleeves and neck and added the word "Bombers" under the players neck.
