Spiedie agrees wholeheartedly, but there is so little news around and this board has been so dead Sped is just trying to keep it going with something.

God I remember hot dog day all too well, see I went to the Junior College in Alfred.  For some unknown reason there is 2 colleges in a town that small, the campuses are literally accross the street from each other.

I am a proud member of the 120 beer club!

Sir Spiedie

OK, Spiedie will take the bait, what are the admission requirements into the 120 Beer Club?

Wouldn't that only be 90 beers?

There is a good Alfred State joke to be made there I think.

hahahahhaha - thats great.

btw - lets say that 44 hours of drinking....straight through that 2.7 beers an hour.  If nothing else lets say you have to sleep for 12 total hours somewhere in there (and thats conservative) thats 3.75 beers an hour, every waking hour.

Wow - thats tough.  Maybe I've just been out school too long.

Oh all right, this is Pep reporting from Saxonville after what may have been the finest Hot Dog Day in Pep's memory.

First of all, the weather couldn't have been any finer. The snow had melted, the sun was shining....a perfect day! To start it off, accompanied by a 19-year-old trim and fit Habitatter, Pep ran the 5K Fun Run all around Alfred's Pine Hill, finishing the 3.1 miles in 27 minutes, 59 seconds.

(Later in the day, the kid who finished just ahead of us was boasting about having beaten my Habitat friend.....Pep couldn't resist, "I hate to burst your bubble, but the only reason you beat him is because he was running with ME!" In fact, he was running backwards up some hills to keep an eye on me. And upon finishing, he said to an exhausted Pep, "I could run that again!"

Following the run, Pep went home, freshened up and took his 13-year-old into town for the noon parade and carnival that followed. The parade was awesome, led off by the Alfred State Pep Band (AU's pep band was invited to join them but members are in various other groups so it didn't work out).

Mid-afternoon, Pep was signed up to participate in the Mud Olympics, his first-ever involvement in the mess. It had been disappointing in previous years to see the Habitat team suffer defeats and hoped to instill some Pep into our team. First up was volleyball. Pep won the coin toss and elected to serve. For brevity sake, games went to 6. Pep served six times and the game was over, the Habitat team, other than Pep, never having touched the ball! Next up was tug-of-war. Pep's running mate was the anchor for the baseball club team, which surprisingly suffered defeat. After securing some tips for success, Pep anchored as the Habitat team of two others guys, an 80-lb. gal and Pep's daughter somehow defeated a team of five guys. Final competition was dodgeball, and, once again, the Habitat team prevailed! So the team went 3-0 on the day, tied with two other teams, losing in a dodgeball playoff to the eventual champs.

The evening was enjoyed in the Club 57 banquet room where Pep's family (30 to 40) gathered to celebrate the life of Jean Palmer Snyder with a fabulous buffet and lots of stories from her wonderful life. A memorial service the next day in a filled church aptly honored her memory.

Pep's been busy and is hosting Habitatters for a cookout this evening. That's all for now from Saxonville.

Pep, you live in a Winslow Homer painting.  That is a classic story.

Pep likes Homer's "Snap the Whip" but is partial to Norman Rockwell.

http://www.sonofthesouth.net/Winslow_Homer_Gallery.htm

The background of "Snap the Whip" is Alfredian in nature.
