Ooh a lurking Buc fan?  Whereabouts are you in the world FootballFanatic?

Tags: Leak broke most of those records based on being a 4-year starter.  That really hasn't happened a lot at UF.

Simms probably would have lost the job had he not gotten hurt.  He was awful out of the gate last year.  I think he is a good QB just a bad fit for Gruden.  He isn't mobile, has a slow release, and can't get the ball over the line of scrimmage on a three step drop.  All three things are vital to the success of the West Coast Offense.  In his 4 starts last season he had like a dozen balls batted down at the line of scrimmage.  Pretty brutal.

Garcia is a good temporary fix.  I am holding out a glimmer of hope that Gruden does with him what he did with Rich Gannon in Oakland.

GB15- Given that IC-SJF is an E8 game I wonder if the schools pick the date.  I would imagine the league sets the league schedule and then gives the teams flexibility to schedule their other dates.  Not totally sure though.

I like it so early in the year.  Kind of reminds me of UF-Tennessee.

i agree with viper on the early part----it becomes a benchmark game
it also allows for a recovery following a loss

I think it is good to have it early for a number of reasons:

1) It is an exciting way to open the Conference season.

2) It gives both schools some interesting choices about who to schedule in those first two weeks.  It seems you need to play teams that will test you but not teams that will beat you.  Because you want to be on a roll coming into the game but do not want to be untested (like IC was last year...although in IC's defense, they did try to get a good opponent in Huntingdon to come in.)

3) It sets the stage for an interesting conference race the rest of the way since IC and Fisher figure to be amongst the contenders every year.  The timing of the game has made the matchups with AU and SC big games for both schools later in the season.

4) It gets the students on the host campus fired up about football early in the season.

EX-CV-

Speaking of Florida, why are the Bucs seemingly giving up on Chris Simms? Gruden really feels Garcia is the answer??? Why not stick with the young lad & let him continue to grow - there would be no discussion if he hadn't been hit so hard he lost his internal organs last year. I don't think it's a good move.

Word down here is that Simms is not fully recovered from his spleenectemy.  Some syndrome where the nerve endings are not fully healed or something.  Brain wants to do something, but nerves don't get the message as quickly as they used to.  Sometimes takes a couple of years to recover from.  Simms may end up on IR this year cause of it.

Simms is done for the year & Gruden "inherited" Dungy's team. The Bucs without a solid quarterback are going nowhere.  :(

Garcia will win some games for them.

I would have to think the Bucs are sitting pretty right now. Since the NFL went to the eight division format, the team that has won the NFC South had come in last place the year before each time. Crazy stat.

drove by Bomberland today.  Figured I would take a detour to work.  The sprinklers were out.  and about 100 gallons a minute were dumping onto the 3 practice fields.  Whats fancy now is on rainy days FDC members can sit in the new business school with ooga booga and watch bomber practice.

Same was happening over the weekend. Football Season and Parents/Move-in season are upon us. Time to make the campus look nice and green.

Can you even go in the new business school yet? It was all fenced off when I was there on Saturday and there were no indications that you could get within 20 feet of the building.

So they are getting the grass as long as possible for the 15th then huh?

JQV

I don't know.  I doubt it though.  No need to do it for SJF.

Besides, long grass would just slow Struzzi down:

They are at Hartwick on the 15th.  The 22nd is the SJF game.  Just wanted to clarify because I was momentarily confused.

I have actually seen her in person and no other part of her resembles the most visible part in that picture.

Crazy.

I
He hardly "sucked a big egg" against Fisher.  He was 27-34 for 175 yards in that game.  Seems to me that Fisher's offense had more to do with the IC loss than Juvan.  There were some missed chances but that is a hard loss to pin on him alone.

Juvan was actually 21-34 for 175 yards against Fisher.  If I had to give a reason for the 34-10 outcome I would say the IC "three headed monster" didn't perform very well at all.  67 net rushing yards?? Not very good.

Also, superman I support you man.  I think its fun to read the debates and opinions of all the different posters.  But I would definately disagree when you said Kramer was good not great last season.  22 TD's and only 1 INT.  Also finished with a 65% completion percentage and 167.90 efficiency rating.

Robby, you are definately right about Juvan.  Great arm strength and a ton of potential.  But his pocket presence and efficiency must get better.  Eventually he will be one of the better QB's in the E8.
