New gear for bomber fans this season??

that's gangsta

on sale now at the rongo!

That "Ithaca is..." franchise is out of control. There's about 25 different sayings now, including the Dubya reference "Ithaca is not George's" and the hippies complaining about the new downtown parking with "Ithaca is Garages." And if you want to be traditional you can always get an "Ithaca is Your Mom" shirt.

You know whats funny about the "Ithaca is Gorges" shirts is that the guy who came up with the saying in 82 does not see a dime of all those sales.  He never trademarked the phrase.  So, now, all those shirts you see in the stores are made by that specific store and sold for $20.

Actually, the creator did make a trademark, but he donated it to the City of Ithaca so that they could use all profits from the shirt to go towards taking care of the trails and stuff.  I remember reading that in The Ithacan.

Phil Rizzuto has passed away.

RIP Scooter, my father said he was lucky to live when he got to see Scooter and Pee Wee Reese play against each other and in the same era.  He always thought that they were two of the best ever.  He also said that Ozzie Smith was the only one he saw that was close.

I remember one Yankees broadcast when Scooter showed up around the fourth or fifth inning and when White asked where he was, Scooter admitted he got lost driving to Yankee Stadium, at which White cracked; How long have you been coming here?

He brought personality to the Yankee broadcasts, something the new announcers don't do.  Sure he did the games like he took a few too many bad hops off the forehead, but he was our guy.

Slow day on the E8PP today...

+K to the enforcer... good to see you back

Where was Jose Q today?  Now that he's married his post count has dropped to about .17 per day.

Jose - MIOH and MIYH will get a close look at your boys from Tampa tonight at Fenway... It should be fun watching Victor Zambrano... oh that's right... he got traded away for Scott Kazmir... Jeez... that was a horrible deal for the D-Rays... jk

Enjoy watching Kid K.  He is always great at the Fens.  Seems like he gets it together for the big games.

I was working the day of the Victor trade.  We just stared at each other blankly for a few minutes when we found out what we got.  The one dowside to the Victor trade was how it soured Mets fans on any trade involving the DRays.  Three years ago a three way deal with Boston and the NYM was all but finished.  The New York papers got wind of it, the Mets fans revolted, and the Mets GM cancelled the deal.

The trade:

Boston gets:
Aubrey Huff
Carlos Delgado

NYM get:
Manny Ramirez
Danys Baez

TBDR get:
Hanley Ramirez
Kelly Shopack
Lastings Milledge
A crafty LHP whose name I can't remember but is in the big leagues somewhere.

This deal was so finalized when it fell through that I already had a release written, player bios copied, and was scheduling a press conference for our new guys.

EDIT: The LHP we were going to get was Yusmeiro Pettit

superman57

to me that sounds like a wash for boston and the mets and while a good trade for the drays...what did they really give up... aubrey huff... that would be a blessing... I would pay you to take huff off of my hands

P.S. it's hilarious to watch the guy on ESPN who made the deal get mocked every day for that deal

I like how ESPN hired a failed, very sorry excuse for a GM as their expert analyst.

The deal was hugely in our favor.  It seemed that way at the time even but, having seen Hanley with the Fish, it is even more evident.

Huff is such a huge waste of human flesh.  The stat that defines his time with us in my mind is a three year streak where he went RBI-less with the bases loaded.  Here is a guy that was a cleanup hitter and was like 0-for-30 something in ABs with the bases loaded.  Not only that, he couldn't even manage a fly ball.  Pathetic.

superman57

I guess so... I'm not sold on Lastings Milledge yet, Hanley rameriez would have been a steal... shopack is a servicable catcher...and all that for really giving up two players that are no longer on your team anyways...
