Text of an Alfred University campus-wide e-mail regarding Julio:

Julio Fuentes, a sophomore criminal justice major, sustained a neck injury during the opening kick-off of the second half of Saturday's football game against Thiel College.

Julio was taken first to St. James Mercy Hospital in Hornell and then transferred to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester where he is listed in "guarded" condition in the intensive care unit.  "Guarded" means his condition is still being evaluated.

Coach Dave Murray and I are in touch with Julio's mother, and we will be notified when he is able to see friends. In the meantime, Mrs. Fuentes has asked for our prayers for Julio's recovery.  Cards may be sent to him in care of Strong Memorial Hospital, 601 Elmwood Ave. Rochester, NY 14642.

Julio is a graduate of Olean High School.

Mine and all our prayers are with the Fuentes family.

On the topic of Baez and our running backs.  Baez is and always has been a spark plug.  He is electric when he gets his chance.  Donovan is a horse though, size and speed.  One play I remember is his 72 yard gallop vs. C-State where he went across field twice and broke numerous tackles.  Don't forget James Davis either.  Since I saw him freshman year, I knew he could be explosive as well.  All the backs we have are studs.

looks like you need to pony up some of your own cash and stop lookin for an IC handout... :D

Paying as much as I do for my education, a few bucks here and their doesn't seem like too much to ask. Actually the funds will come from donations people have made for the graduate PT students to do group activities. As a student still in college, pretty much anything free is a sure bet i'll be there, and finding ways to make things free is like a hobby.

In response to the ratio, it works out pretty nice, about 70 people in my class, around 10 guys.

Nice work on the column.

I gotta say, its hard to imagine that Cortland defense giving up 35 points.  They look tough.

Out of curiosity, you said in the column that the game is at Chugger Davis Field.  Did the Cortland administration finally do the right thing and name the new stadium after Chugger Davis?  I remember there being some unrest in the alumni base over the administration's initial reluctance to name the new stadium for Davis.  Dan, you out there?

good to see ya budcrew!!

Jose,

I recall Dan no longer posting as of last year.  He stated his opinion on an issue, and it seemed to get him in some hot water, so I believe he is retired from the boards.

According to Cortland's web site, ticket information for Cortaca Jug tickets will be released later in the season. The football page says that all the "season tickets" were sold out and that individual game tickets are going to be sold at the door for all of the other home games but Cortaca.

From experience, Cortaca ticket information is released around the end of October. Usually the last or second to last week of October is when the tickets go on sale. I don't know if Cortland season ticket holders automatically get a ticket to Cortaca or not (I'd think they would). If so, that might limit the number of tickets available to the general public.

For the first time in five years, I actually have to buy a ticket if I want to see the game. I haven't been in the stands at a Cortaca Jug game since 2000 at Davis Field. But, I'll probably be elsewhere around the country covering a game that weekend for D3football. Kind of makes me wish I didn't get the 24-hour flu bug the night before Cortaca last year.

The ticket situation for the games at Cortland is always a pathetic mess.

With a ticket cap and a limited capacity for seating, I don't see things changing anytime soon. I wouldn't call it pathetic but it is nowhere near ideal.

I found going to the games at Davis Field to be way more fun than anything I've seen at the Stadium. You could get up early for kegs and eggs and then drive (my fraternity went in a bus) or have someone drive you to the game. You get there at a decent time, and there's still tickets available at the door. And it's not that there's unlimited seating, but there is lots of room to stand and some cold bleachers for those who want to sit.

Now, at the stadium. There's basically no standing room and everyone almost has to have somewhere to sit. No one is standing around, "ringing" the field and it's more of a generic atmosphere. You can't buy a ticket at the door. Hell, unless you buy tickets in October, you aren't getting in. If you are one of the lucky few, don't count on bringing in any type of beverage or food. I could go on here, but it's the same list of reasons that's been mentioned on this board countless times.

The game itself is great, but the atmosphere is much better at Butterfield.

And that will never change.

I wish they never went to tickets...

But now that they did...

I wish Ithaca would sell it's cortaca tickets at an unannounced regular season game at Butterfield.  While it would probably only reduce the bone-head fans by a couple... at least it would give loyal Bomber fans the first shot at tickets.

Altough that would probably reduce some of the greatest Cortaca moments I've seen.  Like the Bomber fan who joined the Cortland Cheerleader's Kickline at halftime.

Great to hear from you.  There will be a very strong Ithaca tailgaiting contingent that morning.  The post-game should be even more fun, as we already have the champagne on ice, and "We Are The Champions" dialed up to celebrate our E8 Championship!
