Last year's contest at St. Lawrence was a week after Julio's terrible accident.  I have no idea how that played into the game if it did at all, but I think it warrants mentioning.

I think this year's Saxon team is better than last year's and I would agree that the Larries are probably better as well.  It should be a close game, but I would think that Alfred would be favored by 7 going in.

With that said, I am nervous about this week since it always seems that Alfred gets to the doorstep of the top 25 before losing.  I hope I'm wrong in being worried, but even if I am the following week against Springfield makes me physically ill to think about.

Come on you Saxons!

The St. Lawrence-Alfred series goes way back and Pep thinks the institutions share the dubious distinction of being located in the utter ends of the state.

As for last year's contest in Canton, the Saxons were playing with a heavy heart (unknowns regarding Julio's injury), jumped out to a 14-0 lead then held on. Pep saw the Saint defense gain confidence as the game progressed and believe that contributed greatly to their 5-4 winning season. The Larries always play the Saxons tough up North. The team's records don't make much difference.

In 2005, AU rolled to a 42-7 win at Merrill Field. While Pep wouldn't predict the same score this Saterday, Pep is hopeful that the Saxons will follow their coach's counsel and take one game at a time....plus, weather permitting, Pep is hopeful of a decent Family Weekend crowd. After all, the band has pep bandannas to sell!

KaZ00: Pep has your cowbell and train whistle.... Pep may need some instruction in sustaining some volume with the whistle. You playing cowbell this Saterday?

I always love when the Saxons beat the crap outta Slu.  I have no bad feelings towards that school except that i still hope it burns to the ground with all those preps in pink popped collars.
Bladder? What bladder?!   HA!
You cease to amaze me Pep.

Pep no longer amazes Sarge? Back to the drawing board....

I'll be there with Kaz00 Jr. in tow.  I'll also find my other whistle so that E-Train's rallying cry with be amplified.  I'm exited for Saterday, what time is the band gathering?

Hey, first time back on the boards since Ithaca. Offense looks crappy, but Fisher brings out the best in DJ. Great seeing Tecmo, Iceman, NSRB and dubbz. Starting tomorrow I'll be heading to San Diego for grad school, joining the west coast PPers! Speaking of which, does anyone know any good Bills bars in San Diego?

Long time until I'll see another IC football game, but long live the FDC.

Is there such a thing as a "good Bills bar" outside of Buffalo?

Dub watches football at Sandbar.  Go there.

EDIT: For the sake of clarity "Dub" = Former Bomber hoop player shaped like a dinosaur.  "Dub" does not equal "ICDubbz."

Q - You be surprised.  The Buffalo fans in NYC take over a few bars this spring during the NHL playoffs and there always seems to be a lot of the Bills fans out on Sundays too.  Then again, maybe I am just friends with too many of them.

Max - I got a couple friends in SD, I'll ask.  You better get used to 10am football, beer and eggs.

The short answer is yes.  The long answer is that I was using this particular cowbell when I was at AU and part of the Saxon Sillies who attended mostly basketball games and made lots of trouble.  It also is a percussive cowbell which must be played with a drumstick and is being phased in as the rhythmic device for at least one new cheer for the Pep Band.

Alfred Posters have taken over!

Pep – Any idea when SLU last beat Alfred?

Kaz- 7 is probably a good line for this game.  MIOH doesn't expect to see a whole lot of offense.

SLU doesn't appear to be the doormat they once were.  They only received one monkey stomping last year (Union on the road).

Wait...YOU were one of those crazy Alfred hoop fans?  I loved you guys.  Easily my favorite road gym.  +k.  (And +k every day for a month if you were the guy dressed as a cow.  He was hilarious).

SLU online archives only go back to '99, and it was probably a while before that the last time the Larries won.  StLarry thinks the game will be a pretty good one, SLU finally seems to have found some sort of running game and has a veteran D, and Alfred is always solid on both sides of the ball.

MIOH, what are you up to these days?  Saw you left the NC and freezing cold.

St. Larry,

Where does SLU get players from?  When they were horrible I always assumed they struggled because it was hard to convince kids to go so far north.  If they have some ballplayers now, maybe that wasn't the problem.

SLU generally draws from the Upstate (CNY, North Country, Eastern areas), VT, and has started making forays into Mass, RI and FL.  Phelps is a great recruiter, and the reason why a lot of these kids will come up to the frigid tundra that is Canton.  His recruiting is probably the big reason the Saints are beginning to become competitive again.  That and the kids from FL probably assume that if it is in NY, it must be near the city  :P
