In all reality guys- the current fisher team hasnt even played enough to compare them to last years model.
After seeing what they did to Rowan last year-----that was a culmination of a stellar year.  WHo is to say that this team may do the same.  Only time will tell but looking at the team right out of the gate and trying to make comparisons is iffy at best.
Im just glad that i have had the pleasure of going to a few games for the first time in 15 plus years.
Im hooked!

Great Pumpkin, Whats going on with Hobart and Ithaca this year?

TGP can't speak for IC, but the Bart has basically had some bad luck.  They could have won against the Dicks and the Engineers, if not for 1 fumble and playing prevent defense with the game on the line.  TGP is confident we'll rebound against the Bizarros this weekend in Woostah.

There are some bright spots:

QB - HUGE question mark in pre-season.  Current stats are very encouraging:

Efficiency:144.95
61-94 (64.9%)
684 passing yds (228 avg/ga)
6 TDs 1 INT
1 rush TD

Ancona has been as advertised and is now handling PATs and FGs and doing a great job.

Hobaica seems to be stepping up as the feature back and the line play has been pretty good too (only 4 sacks in 3 games - and as we know sometimes QBs are equally responsible for sacks as the OL are).

Biggest concern:

Rushing Defense

Bart is allowing about 240 yds a game so far which just plain sucks.  Last year by comparison Bart allowed about 118 yds rushing a game.  Pass D has improved a great deal from last season (103 yds/game in 07 so far vs. 211 yds/game in 06), but to be fair, RPI was really the only good passing O Bart has faced so far this season.

If Bart can fix the rush D then they'll have a shot at the post season.  If not, it's going to be a long year.

realistic

Apologies if this has been discussed but the 'Cuse did stumble to life Saturday, and i don't care if it was against defenseless Louisville. Something good happening there?

Spedie - I was impressed.  I don't know if it is because they were so bad and this game (at least the 1st half) made them look so good.  I watched the game on mute while watching the game online so I didn't hear the commentary.

While they did do this against a defenseless Louisville team they still took everything that defense gave them.  SU hadn't been doing that last year and early this year, I think it could be a stepping stone.  They have an easy game this week and hopefully it gave Robinson (QB) and the receivers some confidence.

I'm glad to see that Pep will be getting his own page on AlfredFootball.com soon!  Will it strictly be pep band related info or will an Alfred community timeline be uploaded?

This is none of Pep's doing, but a supportive parent has begun the site and has shown her love for the band by including us.

Now, the question is, if Pep were to have his own page on the Alfred Football website, (and it looks very much like he does), what do Pep's fellow posters suggest Pep includes on the page(s)?

Some of Pep's most ridiculous posts?
Some of Pep's random ramblings?
Pep's Krispy Kremes story?
Pep's "Rudy" experience?
Pep's recollections of the legendary Coach Alex Yunevich?

So much to select from, where does Pep start?

TGP would advise Pep to stick with ramblings and stories.  The posts may not translate well from LL/E8 PP into the alfredfootball.com site that's primarily visited by parents, players and administrators ;)

hey pep.  just wondering if AUs field was always in the location where it is now at the bottom of that hill.....

and let me throw this out there to the board.  Which school has the worst hill to go back and forth to class from.  Ithaca, Hartwick or Alfred?  (I had an 8am class my freshman year at the NCR building from the West tower.....not a fun walk in 2 feet of snow)

Merrill Field is named after John Jake Merrill, one-time NYS Tax Commissioner and Saxon fan who donated the land in, I believe, the early 1920s. The field was damaged by the Flood of 1935 that brought the Mighty Kanakadea over the field leaving rocks and debris all over. Merrill's granddaughter still resides in Alfred in arguably Mayberry's oldest house next to the AU Welcome Center at Fasano House (at the traffic light).

As for the AU campus, the Pine Hill Suites are probably the most difficult to navigate for resident students. But they have the best view of the Hot Dog Day Weekend Pine Hill Derby every spring!

Can I just say that I love the Alfred history lessons given to us?  At first I dismissed them as random and superfluous but overtime I have grown to like them, it's funny to read and it's good stuff.  I couldn't tell you much about Fisher other than it was started about 50 years ago and was an all guys school then....Thaaaaat's it.  Anyways it's proof that persistence pays Alfred guys, post on!

FA91,  I suppose you're right that you cant really compare so early in the season.  I guess what my ramblings and ranting was all about a plethora of pages ago was the comparisson of Fisher game this year vs last year.  Its alot easier to compare game play from year to year, than it is to compare a team.

From what I"ve said before as well as some of your Fisher-folk-friends is that Fisher looked a helluva lot better last year than they did this year against IC.  Not to say that they didnt look good this year... just that it was alot more impressive getting the snot kicked out of us BAM BAM BAM! style last year (i.e. 2nd half)  than it was this past year when it was actually a pretty tight game for the first 2.5 quaters with their slow methodical yet effective scoring.

Sure the locations may have had an impact, and the FDC is no warm welcome at home... but our presence last year didnt have much of an impact on you boys anyways.

TGP... you're a fuddy duddy.

Pep,  you post what ever you wanna post on your page.  Since you are Pep and the Band,  you should have fulll creative abilities on your page.  Just make sure you can relate to your audience in some aspect, otherwise the only people who will be visiting your page are E8PP'ers and Pep Banders

theoriginalupstate

NSRB, i'd rather give a team a slow death and let them suffer than just throw out 34 unanswered points out of no where....

I like the methodical approach this season, they are really just nickel and diming teams this year.  That frustrates players and fans to no end.

labart96

Thanks.  I've been called a lot worse in the past, and based on that term's origins (a glossary of the Cumberland dialect published in 1899 contains an entry for duddy fuddiel, a ragged fellow), that is quite accurate.

Pep is happy that Booby has "come out" in support of Alfred history lessons. One must understand that to some Alfredians, football season is the highlight of the year. Heck, there ain't much to look forward to in these hills.

"Well Hello There!"               Pep marching on HDD...Sound of the Saxons!
Pep is from a long line of AU football fans, starting with Pep's Bepa (that's what Pep and his siblings called their maternal grandfather as opposed to "Grandpa" for their paternal grandfather). You see, Bepa was "The Voice" of Merrill Field. As superintendent of buildings and grounds at AU, he installed the sound system and since it was his system, he called the games. Pep must admit that glass prof (and RPI grad) Bill LaCourse closely follows Bepa's light-hearted and friendly style. He always welcomes the visiting fans and includes them in his monologue.

Pep's pops snuck into his first AU football game in 1937 when (legendary) Coach Alex Yunevich came to town. Pops watched from the hill. He's missed three home games since. (What were those nieces thinking, getting married on a Saturday during football season?) You might say Pops is hooked on the Saxons. He's a knowledgeable observer, as well, and often second guesses coaching decisions, etc. Pops hasn't had too much to question to date in the 2007 season....AU seems to be getting it right.

So Pep, who wanted to be a sportswriter when he grew up, has followed the Saxons closely since he was out of diapers. And Pep will probably continue following the Saxons when he returns to diapers---all depends.

You asked for it, Booby...have you had enough yet?  +K for asking...

You're the only dood on the board that doesn't know & accept that '57 can't spell.

Poor grammar and horrible spelling... it's just how he rolls.

Pep, how about an Alfred vs. RPI battle of the (pep) bands??  It would probably start off civil, then end up like the fight scene in anchorman.

Bring it, 'gro! Pep's sousaphone player doubles as president of Alfred Wrestling Entertainment (AWE); Sousa twisted Pep's arm, Pep was cornered and pinned into being advisor of AWE. AUPepBand's percussion section already has a reputation for some nasty beatings.

Ron Burgundy....was he a Union grad?
