I like that prediction...I am not sure how likely that is, but I like where your head is at.

thanks 05. does it matter if ithaca beats AU? it pretty much comes down to the fisher v au game right?
of course it matters if AU beats IC...At least at 8-2(if they were to lose to SJF) AU would have an outside shot at Pool C.  Plus, if they lose to IC, they would have to beat SJF for the AQ, whereas if they beat IC, they could 'afford' to lose to SJF and still end up in a 3-way tie for the E8 (provided 'Wick wins out as well).  Consequently, AU should actually be rooting for 'wICK to win out, as 'Wick can only help AU by creating a three-way tie in the event that AU beats IC but loses to SJF.

For example:  AU beats IC and loses to SJF:  AU 5-1
                                                                       SJF 5-1

In that example, if 'Wick loses to SC, then there will be no 3-way tie and AU is out of the AQ by losing the two-way tiebreaker to SJF.   However, if 'Wick wins out, then AU would benefit in the event that they beat IC and lose to SJF by the possibility of emerging out of the 3-way.

These next couple of weeks should indeed be fun to watch.  From the outside looking in, here are my ponderables:

  • Ithaca has a brutal last two (home) games, both must-win games;
  • Al Fred has an even more brutal last two (away) games, but they have the luxury of being able to lose one without losing a shot at the AQ;
  • SJFisher has a two week layoff before the showdown with Al and Fred--I'm always nervous about bye weeks, I fear that the team can lose its edge;
  • NY Interconference mystery:  E8 surrise doormat Springfield monkey-stomps Union to open the season, then the Hobart Pumpkinheads lay a beat-down on E8 Killing Machine Al Fred--where am I?

Can anyone make sense of the Erratic8 this season?

We may find out that Alfred (like Springfield) is very overatted this year........

Interesting theory, one I'd love to talk about in the D3football.com smoke-filled room.  Eight days ago, Al Fred--an upstate NY (lower tier, I know, but outside of NY everything north of the Bronx is "upstate") team, was 7-0 against the lightweight usual E8 suspects.  This was borne out by its sub-.500 SoS/OWP.

At the same time, Muhlenberg, a central PA (meaning not in Philly or Pittsburgh) team, was 7-0 against the lightweight usual CC suspects, as borne out by its sub-.500 SoS/OWP.  However, Muhlenberg has two noteworthy (meaning "Holy crap! How can you not notice this?") non-conference wins, against NJAC steamroller TCNJ, and 5-2 Union.

So 8 days ago, Al Fred is ranked # 11, while Muhlenberg is ranked #20.   ???

What did the D3football.com voters know 8 days ago that we can't figure out?

There are a lot of 1-2 loss teams out there already in the east.  That makes me think a 2 loss team (E8) will get the at large bid..

I think the E8 still has some high credibility due to the fact that SJF was one of the top 4 teams in the country last year.  That gives other E8 teams that hang with SJF some credibility as well..........

I don't think a two loss Erratic8 team is a longshot for a Pool C bid--I think it's a very safe bet for a Pool C bid.

I also think that an 8-2 Hobart is a safe bet for Pool C.

I agree RedSwarm.  What worries me is that Hobart may "steal" a pool C bid from an E8 team.  The Alfred win was huge for the Statesmen.

What is so "Holy Crap" about beating Union, except for the 'crap' wins that Union itself has?

Let's take a look at the "holy CRAP" season of Union:

Week 1:  Blown out by the now 3-5 'Pride' of SC
Week 2:  Lost 34-0 to that powerhouse you want Muhlenberg to be
Weeks 3-7:  Beat the last 5 teams in the LL with a combined record of 12-27....HOLY CRAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

pg04

Although the 34-0 loss to Muhlenberg is bad, I do think that the mules are better than people in this region give them credit for, because they remember something that happened in the playoffs 3 years ago.

Muhlenberg also shut out TCNJ, who is one of the best 3 teams in the east.

I wanted to get that out.  However it really has nothing to do with the topic at hand, which is Union.  It doesn't matter how bad the teams are they've played and beaten, they still have a chance to get the Pool A.  RPI hasn't shown too much in easily putting teams away...

I 'hear' where you are coming form 'Port regarding the Mules destruction at the hands of SJF in Round 1 in 2004.  You cannot however discount that the Mules' program was at their best that year when they were destroyed by the East 4 seed.  Look at Curry...every year they are at their 'best' and they get smoked in the play-offs...Every year MUC is at their best and they win the Stagg every year...There is something to be said about an individual program and the football they are capable of playing come play-off time.  Honestly I do not know if the Mules are as 'extreme' as Curry on one end of the spectrum or as MUC on the other end, however, they do have a limited history of leaning towards Curry...

pg04

I think the win over TCNJ gives them some credibility, though it was at the very start of the season.  Curry at no point could beat TCNJ, or probably even Union, in my opinion.

That's brilliant.  You only addressed half of my "Holy crap!" equation, and declared it invalid.

It's exactly as if I had posted "Holy crap! 2 plus 2 = 4"

To which you respond "What's so 'holy crap' about 2?  I mean, let's look at 2--it's nothing more than this:

  • 1 plus 1; or
  • 2 plus 0; or
  • 0 plus 2!....HOLY CRAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Seriously though, I know you are bored and just trying to have fun, but do not read too much or too little into my posts...Did it even occur to you that the reason that I did not address the second part of your equation is that I agreed with it...I agree that the Mules win over TCNJ was big, but that is just 1 (one) big win, not two:

Let me simplify it for you:  1 + 0 =  1

Knightstalker

The way it looks now the two best wins on Muhlenbergs schedule are going to be TCNJ and Union.  Those are quality wins and both regional I believe.
