Good news on the fa91 side guys---
Fam function on saterday doesnt start til 3 so i WILL have the chance to catch Frank and Mark on the net broadcast!!!!

This, of course, assumes that the OAC doesn't run me out of Alliance when I step foot in Ohio...God forbid, I reminded them that sportsmanship and the such are fair discussion topics for broadcasters.  Now, I'm the most in-credible announcer in the history of radio/Internet.

Frank I think you are an in-credible announcer... and toph Frank has heard from all the fisher fans who went last year including me, and I've already commented on the fact that if it wasn't for the fisher student section it would of been dead last year...

You're the only dood on the board that doesn't know & accept that '57 can't spell.

Poor grammar and horrible spelling... it's just how he rolls.

Hate to jump in here, Frank, but I feel like I need to respond.  The problem I have, I can't speak for any others from the OAC board, is that you have never been to a Mount game before (as far as I know), yet you have made it no secret that you are prepared to call out Mount Union College for the behavior of fans that you have never seen.  Am I wrong in this assessment?

The point I made is that I'm prepared to call out ANY fans' behaviors that are abnormal in terms of taking attention away from the game or in terms of becoming somehow a part of the game...I'd do it at (and have done it at) Union (JU, if I saw/heard it at Ithaca/UC, I would have said something about it and followed up with a call to the admin the next week to work to avoid it again), let alone Mount Union.  My original post was actually a reminder that when you have a national radio audience, try to keep your best foot forward -- not just for me on Saturday, but for the Saturdays -- errrrr -- Saterdays I'm not there.

Let's flip this another way -- I had nothing but positives to say about the SJF crowd and their treatment of us and the Curry folks this past Saturday.  People from SJF are probably surprised to hear that because they think I hate SJF after they beat Union last year (and, no, Mark didn't hold a gun to my head).  Long story short, I WANT to enjoy the game, I want the fans to enjoy the game and I want the student-athletes on the field to be the feature...Not the crowd.  I have a very positive image painted in my head of MUC and the environment there...the discussion in OACPP makes me cringe a bit, but I've been very excited to see it all for myself.  I'd prefer not to have five or six morons deflate that image this week if at all possible.

Mount Union / DIII in general story.

gro has 2 co-workers from NE Ohio (akron & youngstown).  Asked them both about MUC. Both conversations went like this

Gro: Hey you know where Alliance is?
CW: Yes
Gro: Then you know of Mount Union?
CW: Yes
Gro: They're football team is pretty good right?
CW: Huh? never knew that.
Gro: are you kidding me? they've won the NC like 9 times (goes off into DIII diatribe, receives blank stares).

that's not a knock on MUC, but gro thought it was weird that people didn't know what was going on in their own backyard. Seems like all the schools in OH get overshadowed by THE Ohio state university.

Gro finds himself having to explain DIII football on a weekly basis... like why I took vacation to go to the shoes game. Or when gro gets the question "you must have played football in college, where did you go?" I usually reply with "a small tech school in upstate NY that you never head of". It's easier to say that then to get into the facts that RPI is one of the best engineering schools in the country and it has a pretty good football team.  People outside the DIII world just don't understand.

There's a difference between saying "agent" and "agent-type" -- it's a much broader category.

Along those lines, you're simply an "ass-type hole".    Which could be any kind of stinking, puckering type hole.  Not the narrow minded definition.

You're obviously coming to Alliance with an agenda in place since you've already stated that you'll call MUC out if you "SENSE" any thing.  Isn't your job as a broadcaster to paint the word picture of what you ACTUALLY see and hear?   Not sense?

Good luck staying objective with an ex-SJF player as the color guy.  That's a great recipe.

Gotta love the love from the OACPP...I need to hit the weight room hard this week, obviously.

(Edit:  That message was from the MUC commercial radio color commentator... Yeah, my objectivity MUST be an issue.)

Now, for some sanity:

I was on the conference calls for both Coach Kehres and Coach Vosburgh this morning.  Both gentlemen had nothing but positives to say about the other team, especially the key players on both sides.  It was refreshing to hear K & V heap praise on the opponents.  Also, I was very impressed by how organized MUC's Sports Information Department is in putting together such calls to make everything more efficient for all parties involved.  Thanks to them for that.

With regard to Stepnick, he is still questionable, according to Vosburgh.  It was indeed a high ankle sprain -- the diagnosis has not changed.  However, Vosburgh said that regardless of Stepnick's ability to play, the base defense will remain the same against MUC.

Both coaches seem very optimistic about Saturday in earnest...although Vosburgh conceded that it will be no small task trying to stop the balanced MUC attack.  Similarly, Kehres conceded that SJF's two RB-scheme is a nice idea and tough to deal with sometimes on defense -- and that Kramer completes a great SJF balance on offense.

Gro...excellent synopsis of what is like to explain one's close ties to D3 football...Myself and former teammates joke when we talk on the phone to eachother at work that we have to close our doors because we dont want people hearing that we are passionately talking about d3 ball...especially this week leading up to MUC for the second straight year.

+K to all passionate d3 fans and former players on this board...I'll get the rest of ya later

For folks in NE Ohio football is:
1. Browns and or Steelers
2. The Ohio State University or that school up north
3. Their local high school.

They claim to be expert football fans, but if they truly were Mount would need a bigger stadium.
12-0 = 13

PBR...

good luck to sjf and frank vs. the evil purple empire this week....

Well, that's pretty close but not exact.  There's a lot of people that have followed Youngstown State over the years as well in NE Ohio and YSU has had more than a little success on the national scene.  There are also a TON of colleges and universities in Ohio so one can't be expected to follow a school they have no ties to although it is just a bit boggling that people wouldn't know about MUC given the level of success they've achieved.

I grew up near Alliance and graduated from Ohio State, hence the handle.  I currently live in Northern Virignia so each year (pretty much) my son and I make a trip down to Salem to see the Raiders play football.

pbr- that was good--- i can hear the theme song now!!!!!

Knightstalker

Frank, you keep misspelling Saterday over on the OAC board.  With an E8 team playing Mount the proper spelling is Saterday.
