Maybe it's just me, but how many of the bigmouths who support MUC have actually played one single down on the field for MUC.  Don't get me wrong, I think it's fantastic when people rally around a team and support them....All the 'We' BS over there, makes me feel that alot of those 'Bandwagoners' are simply that....on the winning bandwagon.

Has hscoach, reality check, runyr, ric or seventies ever worn a 'Raiders' helmet......I doubt it!!

Support the team, but drop the 'we' unless you have helped to actually build the program and enjoy the fruit of that hard work....

For the most part, they are 'bandwagon', much the same way I am a 'bandwagon' New England Patriots fan....

I'll take a slight bit of issue with that one, U89, only because I feel that you don't necessarily have had to wear the pads to help build up a team in other ways.  Ric does some great things over at http://www.mtunionfootball.com and through his own radio broadcasts over the years.  I think a football team becomes a family that is more inclusive than just players and coaches -- and that's probably why I end up using "we" a lot more than I probably should when discussing Union College's team -- not on the radio, but in my own circles.  Maybe I'm an idiot for doing it (or, an "ass-type hole"), but it kinda just happens.

Otherwise, I understand where you're coming from as you're somebody who has had to endure practices, games, injuries and more man-odor than any human should have to deal with...but remember, you got the hot chicks on campus while dweebs like me decided to make dating an annual or bi-annual event :)

It would help if RC was a graduate of Mount Union, wouldn't it?  RC graduated from and played for Ohio Northern.

As for the other guys, I wouldn't call them bandwagon fans just because they didn't play for MUC.  Not everyone is gifted enough to play at the DIII level.  Ric has been following Mount Union football since he was "Little Ric."  Check out his website.  You'll have to ask hscoach exactly how long he's been around, but he's been around quite awhile.  Seventiesraider, I believe derives his name from his graduating class, but I'm not positive.  Most of the MUC posters are not bandwagon fans.  Also, would you consider current students (like the Purple Suit guys...I know you guys love them), or recent graduates "bandwagon fans?"  Mount had already won 7 national titles by the time this year's senior class chose Mount Union.  Do you understand the slippery slope you're going down here?

I would take the "we" thing one step farther.  If you're not a member of the current team, it's not "we."  I've never used "we" or "us" to describe the play of a team on the field.  I don't play for that team, I didn't go through practice in the summer, etc.

Toph,

I may be wrong, but when I read the start of this thread, I think he was referring to most of what you mention in the last paragraph.  I'll admit that I will refer to the team in "we" terms, even though I never suited up for the Purple Raiders.  I would take some exception to being called a bandwagon fan, though.  I'm a fan because I went there.  I did not choose to attend Mount Union College because they had won a few championships, I chose to go there for a list of other reasons.  I may have only been a fan since 1999, but that's because I hadn't gone to the school before then, and, frankly, had not heard of it before I began applying.  Bandwagon? No.  Recent fan? Sort of...It's hard to think of 8 years as 'recent'.

I was also wondering about the comment wondering if the "bigmouth fans" had ever taken a snap.  If the requirement for being a vocal supporter or your favorite team were having actually played for it, then stadiums around country would fall awfully quiet, and even boards such as this would have woefully few posters.
