Quote from: boobyhasgameyo on December 01, 2007, 08:18:52 PMThis rivalry talk, maybe I'm missing it and a Fisher poster used the word rivalry first, but I've seen the Mount posters referring to a future rivalry developing so take it easy on the "Fisher is quick to name something a rivalry card".  And in regards to Ithaca, if Fisher keeps winning some of those games they will probably have a higher winning percentage against Ithaca than Cortland does, so just something to nibble on.

Not sure that winning percentage matters more than longevity for a "rivalry" to exist but, for the record:

All Time Record vs. IC

SJF: 3-7 (.300)

C-State: 26-37-3 (.394)

I think there are a few big rivalries in the MUC/SJF series....

1.Nate Kmic vs. Nate Kmic What is one players rushing record vs. one team in his carreer?  Can Kmic gain 1000 yards against SJF alone in his career?
2.SJF recievers vs. The MUC band What will be stolen next year?  One of those big xylophone hammers with the rubber ball head?

Ok..now that the East smoke has cleared....I have to say.....Ithaca was the "beast of the east" in the play-offs.  Yah I know....easy to say looking at the score.  But, Ithaca's QB was the best Mount has seen since Rocky from Capital last year.  I know you all indicated he was "average" earlier in the season, but that kid came into his own at the end of the season, and during the play-offs.  He was that good.

I wish the IC three headed monster could return for a 6th year next year!  Juvon will be that good... He should lead us over Fisher and I think we will really be able to vitalize him in the west coast spreads and, dare I say it, OPTION offense...???

Oh the possibilities of Bomber football next year..... quick question, who replaces Donovan?

I think the front 7 in the defense will be the best on the IC team next year.  A bunch of young players mad a lot of plays up front for IC at the end of this year.

I just think its kind of funny to call any series a rivalry after 2 games and a 2-0 mark with one of them being a 52-10 blowout.  Theres more to a rivalry than just playing the other team.  Hell, you wouldnt call SJF/Alfred a rivalry would ya? It doesnt feel like one anyway.

I would call SJF/IC a rivalry.  That game the past 5 years is usually for a playoff spot or the title.  Plus, both teams have both had some wins and the games have been good games and the crowds are bigger than for other games.

When I played, Buff St/IC was a rivalry.  It was a dirty, hard fought game between the two of the best teams in the east, and it usually ended up being for a playoff spot, and three times the teams met each other in the playoffs.  Man those were battles.

fisheralum91

no argument.
as has been stated many times- including by me-- in order for there to be a rivalry- each team has to have one a few times and have a tradition behind it.
this relationship is only 2 games old and will continue next year.
the only difference is that this game was for a spot last year in the finals and this year in the semis.
big reprocussions.
grander scale.
who knows what will happen in time---hopefully Fisher will bring more to the plate

I agree...mostly.  Both DEs were young and made a ton of plays.  But IC loses Byers, who was the entire reason we went 3-4 in the first place. (EDIT: Although, technically, I think he qualifies for a medical redshirt for a previous season.  Not sure if he will apply for the 5th year or not.)

If Byers has another year available, then the Ithaca folks should be hoping bigtime that he applies for it.  He was the biggest bright spot on the Ithaca D against MUC.  He played very, very well against a senior laden O-line.

For anyone considering the switch to a 3-4, you better have an absolute stud in the middle.  If not, that defense will fail bigtime.
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

He is the ultimate anchor for the 3-4 because he is so athletic.  He was an all-state wrestler in high school.

A while back I wrote a ridiculously long post on next year's IC defense that timed out, but I concur that this will be the best defensive front we've seen in years.

For a while it seemed that the D-Line were just guys who got in the way and let the linebackers make the plays.  Goetz and especially Drescher are playmakers and do a great job on the ends.  Losing Byers if he doesn't come back won't help, but the backup NT played really well this year.

The linebackers should be fun... Scalice is ready to dominate, Baker and Scanlon will improve... Lonson Becker is from a football powerhouse High School and showed some off what he's capable of this year.

What's the receiver/running back situation for Ithaca next year?  They seemed to have kids that could make a great catch and run, but then turn around and drop two or three easy ones.  Are any of the big contributors underclassman?

Did Juvan run the ball that much this year?  He seemed to do a GREAT job of standing tall in the pocket, but I don't recall him tucking it away and taking off.

As far as the running back situation is conerned, I don't see that as too much of a concern.

Bergerstock is capable.  Kulp showed lots of promise, but has had a number of surgeries at this point.

The one to really look for may be Matt Crandall, who was a Freshman this year.  He was first-team all state, and racked up obscene numbers (he ran for just under 400 yards against undefeated Maple Grove in his Senior Season).  It should be fun to see what he provides.

Skunk-

You saw us this year at probably our lowest point as far as WR's go in quite a few years.  We cranked out one sure handed guy after another over the past decade... (you would have loved Justin Esposito... who was a D-1 wideout if he had a little more speed).

This is the first year I can remember sure passes being dropped on a semi-regular occasion.

Crandall will be back, and can run like the wind.... he's certainly a deep threat.

Jose loves Bostic, but the program seems to be down on him.  I saw him get outjumped by guys a foot shorter than him on more than one occasion.  If he wants it, I think he could have a big senior year...

The Tight End is a stud and should have a big year next year.  We seem to have a neverending supply of folks at that position.

When he arrived at IC, we heard a lot about his running ability.  Dubbz has been begging for the option for so long he nearly named his dog "Welch, Run the Option."  But Juvan has turned out to be much more of a pocket passer.  Which is fine by me given the way he played down the stretch.

To be honest, I don't know much about Bostic but was begging for some PT just for a change.  Outside of Crandall, we didn't have a WR capable of getting separation.  That left Juvan to make perfect throws and, when he made those throws, they weren't always caught.

I agree about Weverburg.  I am excited about him in 2008.
