Yes he is the linebackers coach,   Jeremy Lynch, former big play man for Brockport is the DBs coach.

Walter was a good backer, one of the better ones I played against.  Lynch may have been hurt when I played them

FLA10

ya he was a great kid.  Worked hard.  His brother Matt was a hell of a safety to.  First brother duo in Port history to both be all-americans

He's Certainly had a lot of great players in the past few years to chose from, for sure.  Bomber, I believe lynch was hurt for most of 2003 season if I can remember correctly.

ya tore his ACL in early in the season

No one is claiming that Reile isn't a good player.  I was just responding to the poster that claimed Fisher had three players making major contributions to the offense on Saturday.  Not sure if his 2.8 yards per carry qualifies for that..

I think he was probably referring to the defensive "father"

congrats to fisher on big win, you outplayed and out coached us, nice to see someone has a little spice in their offense, we were pretty much vanilla with ours, welchie was upset that seniors didn't step up , i feel he was sending them mixed messages with your captain baez only getting 4 carries! enough of fisher, on to b'port , maybe dubz should have picked up uncle yager, he's our lucky charm!!!!!!

real quick... i missed yesterday and sunday as I was, and still am, on the DL.... BUT, does Welch have to do the Grid iron report??? is that something that is in his contract? Does he have to do the local, student ran, football interviews??  Just wondering?

I doubt that it's contractual. That said, Welch is a classy, professional individual and would not hang the Grido Report out to dry after a tough loss. What would that say about him if he showed up only following wins?

It definitely goes back to Butterfield.  If you read his wife's book, there is a photo in there of him on the show looking pissed off (maybe JohnnyUtah missed an assignment) that has to be from the early 80s.

My impression of Coach Welch has always been similar to my impression of Fay Vincent.  He respects his predeccessor so much (how could he not?) that he intends on conducting himself in a similar manner.  That, to me, is one of the secrets of IC's long term success.  You get the feeling that the program is managed from top to bottom in the same way it was during Butterfield's glory days.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the Gridiron Report goes back to the Butterfield days.

The Gridiron Report goes back a long way...I don't know how long, but definately a long time.  As stated above, there is no contract but it is expected unless there is sickness or whatever.  Also - it works both ways, it is good for the team, players, school, etc... and the sponsors allow someone from the show to be at every game, home and away.  Welch is so used to doing it, he even made a point to make it to a number of SportsFinals during the year where there was no grido.

Yeah...ESPN's Karl Ravech hosted the show at one point while Butterfield was the coach

P.S. I once heard Ravvy claim to have played Safety for Ithaca on the air.  It appears that wasn't true.

While that probably wasnt me that Butts was yelling at,  seeing that picture brings back some nice memories. I am lucky enough to say that I did play under Coach Butterfield and that the experience was a great one.  The guy was a football man through and through.  Its funny how the guy never lost his thick upstate Maine accent through the ages.  What a great voice the guy had.  Classy, classy man.

And theres Jon Meter-Perel as well to add to gridion hosts of the past.  Jon is currently the flash guy on Boston's WEEI's morning show.  He also does Boston Colleges play by play for football games.  Some other names that I remember now.

And does anyone know who these guys are or what they are doing now?

Hmm.. not sure what seniors could have stepped up.   Donavan had nowhere to go, they didn't throw the ball to Gordon or the TE, Baez hardly played and  the DL and the linebackers are all underclassman....

Maybe he wanted more of a calming presence from them on the sideline?

tecmo, i believe i read it in the journal on monday, i'm not quite sure what he was looking for, i don't think they were too excited! i sure he was looking for someone to fire them up, baez is a game breaker, he has to get 15 touches somehow!
