Mrs.JQV was busily trying to figure out a way to sew a coozie onto the front of our Baby Bjorn carrier so we could bring our two month old to Gator tailgates and have a place to hold beer...

What a nice welcome back to the boards this is!  Been MIA for a while, but I'm glad to see things haven't really changed much.

It could be a whole series like those chicken soup books.

How to be a Dixie Wife at a Tailgate Party

How to be a Dixie Wife in the Stadium

How to be a Dixie Wife when your Husband's yankee friends from College come to town.

etc.

Make that two on the pre-order list for the book series, Q....

Howdy there, Yellowhat.  Looks like we made our return to the board on the same day. Got your text message from Mrs. Tecmo on the softball job.  Sounds like a good deal!  Hope your conference went well.. I think I could pull off softball except for the mechanics of pitching.  Hope they had some sort of workshop on that.

Bad news from around here... tried to check the boards yesterday at school, and it appears the websense monster has gotten a hold of this website and put it on the banned list.  That could seriously curtail my Tecmoposts come the fall.

Dubbs you still off to Nascar this weekend?  I'd love to make it but am in the world of poverty, and the folks are coming in for the afternoon on Saturday.  Would love to be there to see me overtake yellowhat in nascar fantasy again.

And finally, how about them Cubbies!  Gosh, what a turnaround.  From the worst fundamental team in baseball a couple years back to the polished version they have now.  Mrs. Tecmo and I are trying to figure out how to land some playoff tickets.  She may not be on the Bombers football bandwagon, but is starting to bleed cubbie blue.  Got me the MLB extra innings package for our anniversary.  Sweet!

Fisher people around here are talking crap already.  Hope we hand to them this year.

Speaking of the FDC, Lady Dubbz asked Dubbz if he was retiring from the "shenanegans" this year.

Dubbz sighed and thought 7 years was a good run.

That right there, among other things, is the difference between yankee women and girls in dixie.  When I got home from work the other day Mrs.JQV was busily trying to figure out a way to sew a coozie onto the front of our Baby Bjorn carrier so we could bring our two month old to Gator tailgates and have a place to hold beer...

Pep Jr., after a year of teaching sixth grade math in a Charlotte inner city school, has spoken highly of the chicks in dixie. Heck, he even brought to Pep a dixie bitch that not too long ago....well, that story has already been told and left even Superman speechless.

Welcome back, tecmo and yellowhat!!

Mornin' Tecmo.

The conference was an IB teaching conference, so there wasn't much discussed about softball pitching mechanics.  But like I said, this coach should be at the college level easily, so I'll get a ton from her throughout the season.  It's really going to limit me being on here though, and we have games most Saterdays, so keeping updated on the e8 could be tough too.   We start practice on Monday with a midnight madness, and then school starts at the end of next week, so it's all coming to an end pretty quickly.  But, at the same time, that signals the start of football season.  Speaking of, I'm not sure which drawn out saga I could possibly care less about: Titletown vs. Favre.

Good to be back Pep!

Btw, on the nascar front... it looks like qualifying could be canned for the 17th time in 17 years today due to rain at Watkins.  Poor Bo Said, and the rest of the road course ringers.

Midnight Madness, eh? Sounds a bit more intense than our brand of softball around here.

I prefered Titletown to the tremendously hideous Who's Now? segement from last year.

Rain creeping in from the north... let it pour!  Sunny equals picnic at Stewart Park... rain equals pizza hut buffet!!

Next time JQV and Mrs. JQV come to South Hill (which will probably be for Cortaca '09 depending on a few contingencies in '08) you can bring all Mrs.FDCers for a seminar on tailgating and football appreciation free of charge.

Mrs.JQV's seminar will include, but not be limited to:

-How to plan thematic gameday tailgate meals (such as the crawfish boil we had for LSU two years ago);

-How to hold your husband's cigar while he is in the can and how to re-light it for him before he gets back if he takes too long;

-How to set up the Direct TV dish on gameday;

-How to flirt with members of other tailgate to get your husband a plate of their catered meal; and

-How to wear an artificial bladder full of bourbon into the stadium for your husband because girls don't get patted down and guys do.

EDIT: Jose +k some hilarious stuff in there ....good times ...its the truth about very few women getting patted down. when at psu games we always send the xtra's in w/ the women

When KS and friends used to go to Giants Stadium, KS friend Sam would always load himself up with Busch cans, while they were patting him down and taking his beer, KS and the others would be able to get in past him with the flasks.

Me thinks in Ithaca's case the other NY schools have stepped up their recruiting efforts, facilities, etc.  No fault of their own but like Jose said the number of options has increased.  In NY, sure every school is unique (Ithaca's media programs, Alfreds pottery school... I mean ceramic engineering program) but on the surface you could lump a majority of the private liberal arts schools together. They are all competing for the same kids.

Gro also believes that the D3 talent pool itself has grown.  More and more kids have both the football ability and grades to get into most of these schools.

Don't know if this was said, but some guys will stay close to home for whatever reason. I know Utica recruited at least a couple dozen from Section III and around there.

Yea but the only school that really stepped up its facilities is SJF.  And although Cortland facilities have improved 100%, the choice between there and Ithaca was and should be now more of a $$ issue.  Im going to say that your average kid will chose IC over Cortland if the $$ is the same.

I don't think that's completely true... a kid may go to Cortland and really like the school and the atmosphere and be set.

Dew-- i saw that UC hit the Utica and Syracuse area hard this year.
Any word on how Blaise is making out in the new program?
The Fisher UC game will be interesting to say the least!

Fisher has probably undergone the biggest facility upgrade but I think there are program upgrades outside of the actual physical plant that a lot of schools have undergone.  When schools start investing in their programs (recruiting budgets, uniforms, travel, etc) they are going to get kids.

I also agree that IC has a wider geographic pull for football recruits than the other schools but I think they are getting hit on multiple fronts by the smaller regional schools.  We are competing with Fisher for the Rochester kids, with the NJ schools for the LI/NJ kids, with Union RPI for the NE kids, etc.

Not sure about the other schools, so not trying to disrespect them, but IC has a massive alumni network, which also helps.
