While, AU hasn't put together an NCAA season in recent memory, they have proved that they are capable of beating elite programs like Ithaca and SJF.

Here we go....

So far the only two teams that have been able to beat SJF on more than one occasion over the past 6 years has been MUC and of all teams Hartwick....

Get over yourself...all i said is they are capable of....and you might want to add Ithaca to your list if you say in the last 6 years.

Oh pauly stop...

I meant 5, but my fingers are too fat...

I need a dialing wand...

the suspension of the 5 defensive starters for Salis. is going to play a big factor on sat.
im conting (and hoping) that fisher comes out with guns ablazing.

While Hartwick has been able to beat SJF twice in a row, they've been unable to beat anyone else decent consitently. They're 21-31 since the start of '03 and that includes a 8-21 conference record. Most of their games against Ithaca, Alfred, Springfield and Fisher recently have been blowout losses. Their non-conference schedule is hardly yeoman's work.

Hartwick OOC opponents records

2005: 11-24
2006: 17-21
2007: 14-24
2008: 4-10

That's 45-79, with not a playoff berth among them.

Yes, if Hartwick had a defense, they'd be unstoppable. If I had working legs, I'd have to park far away from buildings with the rest of you guys. But alas, I get to park wherever I want and Hartwick gives up 35+ points almost every week. Thems' the breaks, as they say. I would also disagree that their offense keeps them in every game. Their offense can score, but if you're trailing/losing by more than two scores, which Hartwick is quite often, you're not exactly "in games."

They had a great season last year, don't get me wrong. But that's all it was. One season. Maybe they're on their way to doing it again this season, I don't know. We'll know more after this week

One of the reasons the E8 is so strong is because of things that Alfred and Fisher have been able to do in turning around their programs. Consistent winning. With SJF/Alfred/IC the E8 has had at least three teams with 7+ wins each of the last four seasons.

Right now, Hartwick's kind of like a poor man's Springfield to me. The Pride are either amazing--47-9 combined in 2000, 2002, 2003, 2004, and 2006--or mediocre--17-24 combined in 1999, 2001, 2005, 2007 and so far in 2008. They're not the kind of team that--yet at least, has built a legacy. They each have an offensive strategy designed to score them points when it's executed well and you have the right players, but they are too inconsistent on defense and unable to adjust on offense.

They can take a big step this year by going 5-1 in conference and finishing tied for first. But if they wind up 4-2 or 3-3 in the E8 and get trounced this weekend, I'm probably going to look back on this SJF game as a fluke, and not so much a notice of a team's arrival

This is a team that hasn't had consecutive winning seasons since 2000-2001

I think we need to come up with a Simpsons quote for each E8 team's season

capable and actually doing it: definitely two different things. Without looking, are both of those games at Merrill?

Maybe I'm reading this wrong, but AU beat SJF in Fisher in either 04 or 05.

Its been a long time since i've been on here but my dad has kept me up to par.  Sounds as though its another crazy year in the E8.  My dad will be traveling to Wick this weekend to watch the game.

side note:  it was back in '04 when I was last at the cage.  the most memorable thing about that game was that the girl singing the national anthem forgot the words...3 times.  The first two she tried starting again.  The last time she just ran off the field.

That would be the cluster**** season of 05, towards the end of the year they just imploded on offense, but still it was just one win vs them since 2002.
