I've been thinking about this for a while, and am just ready to say it:

The reason why Fish is 5-3 and not 7-1 is because we have a d-cooridnator that is green and hasn't learned how to close a game out.

when you have leads in the 4th qtr you have to win that game or make sure it is never going to be in doubt.

That falls on the D-coach.  Who appears to get paralyzed with fear with the game on the line at precisely the time the pressure needs to be stepped up.  Press in the 4th qtr. -- no more sitting back.

They should have went with a proven commodity in this role.

Interesting email address -- and only two posts, eh?  Hmmm.... Ax to grind bud???

Fisher fans have been griping about the coaching staff and the players all season long. It's been one, two-month long, complaint-fest out of them when frankly, they haven't had THAT bad of a season. Maybe they've underacheived a bit, but it's been a non-stop siege on this team from the opening week and it's kind of sad. Fisher's had a great program, and in the last 2-3 years they've done more than almost every team coming out of the East this decade---with the possible exception of Rowan. They've done the most damage of anyone out of the E8 conference in getting to the National Semifinals---something only a team like IC has done since 1994. They've turned around a moribund program into one of the best in the area. And at the first sign of trouble, do the fans say "Hey, it's only one year" or "We'll be ok, I have faith in this coaching staff."? No. They criticize EVERYTHING. The offense is bad. The defense is bad. They aren't recruiting the right type of players. The play calling is terrible. The wrong players go in at the wrong times. Now, the coordinator's too inexperienced. People come on the board and FIRST post they make is some comment about the coach. Complain, complain, complain.

It's D-III football. It's not life or death. How about enjoying your team, enjoying the game, understanding that these kids aren't professionals and the coaches aren't perfect? It's fine to want your team to win and be upset that they don't, up to a point. But there's been nothing but incessant complaints coming from SJF fans from Week 1.

or you can support them like I mostly do and be labeled a "homer" and other unsavory things.  Boy the IC contingency always seems to get us both ways...

just one of them Bombers...lets be fair to the others.  (come on Upstate fess up)

JQV

I have said it before (and I think either Booby or Upstate agreed with me)...it takes longer for a fan base to learn how to handle success than it does for coaches and players.

That is factually incorrect on both accounts if you are indeed implying that is what Ithaca is about.

Hey, I never called anyone a homer. And again, my biggest issue with some of these SJF fans is that, from the tone of their comments, you'd think that the season, and heck, the entire program is in one deep death spiral. And in reality, they've had one tough year, and even now, are one Hartwick upset loss away from being Conference champion. Some people have been acting like it's Nowich or Utica-esqe around SJF, and that's simply not true.

I've always believed that, if you want the true measure of a team, take the most optimistic view and the most pessimistic view, and split the difference. That's where I am with SJF. A good, not great football team. But that's the same impression I have of IC at this point. Good, but not great. In fact, I don't think a single team in the E8 is utterly dominant. But we've got four good teams (SJF, IC, Alfred and Hartwick)  and that's not too shabby

Yeah, that makes great sense. Especially considering we beat Cortland and went to the NCAA's last season...

(Note: This next part is not directed at any other SJF fans on this board other than the one who responded to my post, most of whom, while I disagree with them, are at least respectful and factually based. I got nothing but love for you guys, and have been supportive of your program on these boards. But if this guy wants to throw stones, well...)

You know, next time you come up for a game, I'd be happy to show you our three National Championship trophies. Or, if you're ever near the College Football Hall of Fame, you can check out the nice little piece they have on the coach we put there. Spare me your "expectations" speech. What do you have, seven stright winning seasons now? That's nice. We just finished off our 38th. What, you think three trips to the NCAA's makes your team a powerhouse? You've never won a Stagg Bowl, never been to a Stagg Bowl--neither of which is likely to be accomplished this season. You've got an overall record of 188-157-5. We're 432-212-11, with the 4th best winning percentage in D-III history. Your program's "expectations" have been met, and exceeded numerous times by Ithaca College. Ithaca is one of the most storied programs in Division III. They were winning national championships when SJF was still a club team. The day your program accomplishes a fraction of what IC has is the day you can talk that kind of smack.
