Probably someone to take the #2 seed, there really isnt a worthy team out there for the #2.  Look for Wesley, Muhlenburgh or the OAC runner up (Otterbine if they win next week)...

I think the East Region bracket will end up looking something like this:

1.  Muhlenberg (10-0)
2.  Ithaca (9-1)
3.  Plymouth State (10-1)
4.  Cortland State (9-1)
5.  SJF (7-3)
6.  Montclair State (9-1)
7. Albright (8-2)
8. RPI (8-1)

Hoping that Fisher takes care of Alfred next week.  Also hoping Muhlenberg is imported and NOT MUC.

Where is Hobart?

They've got the inside track on the LL, a win vs UR gets them the AQ...

FA: I think you're off a bit. Ithaca won't jump to a 2. No way, I don't care if they beat Cortland by 40.
Hobart's missing too.
Plymouth is also way too high at three, they'd be a 6/7 at the highest.

Seriously?  They were ranked 3rd in the east region last week before RPI  lost.  If they beat Cortland by 40 there would be a 99% chance that they would be the #1 or #2 seed in the east.

I mean, those are the NCAA rankings right?  Ithaca has to be #2 this week, so there can't be any chance they would move down if they beat the #1 team in the rankings next week, so I just don't see how it would be possible for the NCAA not to rank them #2 in the east if they are already going to be #2 (or #1) in the final east rankings anyway.

I guess I didn't realize they were third in the regional rankings. I guess I don't understand why. They must not put a lot of stock in that 37-6 stomping by SJF.

You think it's possible that the NCAA says to themselves "Hey, maybe we won't define Ithaca's entire season by one game?"

Bombers is not even that.  I would think that by looking at all of those teams games for the whole season, you can see that Ithaca probably deserves to be #2, #3, or #4.

Thats the way I look at it anyway

Maybe. It's also the reason I think IC would get into the NCAA's as an at large team even if they lose to Cortland.

I'm not so sure the imported team is automatically the two.  In 2002, John Carroll was the OAC runner up and was sent to the East (Bart had the luxury of hosting them in the first round that year) and was a #7 seed.

I don't know how it works, but I think if it's a pool B or Pool C and they are imported, they aren't as likely to get a high seed and host multiple games.  If its a pool A, its probably different.  A Pool B or Pool C from another region is probably no better than a 5 seed in their own region, so they aren't likely to be a high seed in the east.

JU, you mentioned the '96 Bart - IC game earlier.  I was a FR and only played in mop up duty, but that game was close so I had to freeze my a** off on the sidelines.  Our trainer was giving up jackets to wear and I recall a little bit of snow coming down.  That was why I had asked about Abe (Ceasay), we both started college that year.  You guys also had a very good LB who came from the town next door (Union Endicott) - Rich something.

Ceasay played as a freshman and was a very good WR.  Rich Pasquale is the OLB you are thinking of.  He was a tough bastard as well.

Yeah I remember I looked out for him on video and he seemed to come in and run a lot of slant patterns.  I was telling one of our DB's, who like to utilize the horsecollar/clothesline tackling technique, to look out for him.

Pasquale played in HS with a guy who went on to Harvard and then played 9 years in the NFL, mostly for the seahawks.  Isiah Kaczevynski (probably not spelled right).

Hasnt the NCAA already decided that Ithaca is the 3rd best team in the east (and now probably 2nd) by ranking them there with one loss?

tecmobowler

Having come to Ithaca in 1999, I've never seen them play a home playoff game.  That sure would be sweet!  This Cortland game will be as big as any one I can remember in the past few years..
Thousands of fans join in the revelry, showing their Bomber pride and support for the football team. Some fans take the rowdiness a little too far, however, by starting fights, damaging property and tipping Port-a-Potties. -Ithacan, November 10th

dewcrew88

Try this one for size:

(All these games assume that each team involves wins their last game of the season, except if two of the teams play each other)

Might be a way to keep a North or South team out:

1. Cortland (10-0) A NJAC
2. Hobart (8-1) A LL
3. Montclair State (9-1) C NJAC
4. St. John Fisher (7-3) A E8
5. Albright (8-2) A MAC
6. Plymouth St. (10-1) A NEFC
7. Ithaca (8-2) C E8
8. RPI (8-1) C LL

So the first round matchups would be:
Cortland vs. RPI in a rematch of the 2006 ECAC game, Hobart vs. Ithaca, Montclair State vs. Plymouth State and St. John Fisher vs. Albright.

All the mileage works out too, being less than 500 miles.
According to mapquest: RPI to Cortland is 177, Ithaca to Hobart is 45, Plymouth to Montclair is 334 and Albright to Fisher is 309.
If they had to switch to keep the NCAA travel budgets happy, Albright to Montclair is 119 miles.

Discuss. I'll probably use this in my column too.

Why couldn't Muhlenberg be a 1 or 2 seed in the South?
