Hello to all i am new the post board and would like to say that this was another great year in the E8 it was exciting to watch and wait until that last two weeks to see who was going to win the conference.

to move on i am responding to the previos post about boltus in the nfl.  as you can all tell i am a wick fan.  i have watched boltus over that past 4 years and have seen what this kid can do.  i know there is alot of talk about him being drafted in the nfl this year.  after attending most of the games this year i have to say that i saw more than my fair share of nfl scouts coming to watch him play.  teams such as the vikings, 49ers and so on.  being a football fan of all levels i would have to say that boltus is by far the best D3 quarterback ive ever seen.  the kid has all the tools of a great athlete, size, speed, strength.  I know there has been alot of talk about him playing in the nfl as a quarterback.  i have even heard that some of the scouts have told him that his arm strenght is better than a few starting nfl quarterbacks, but that being said i am not yet sold on him playing quarterback in the nfl.  with the huge difference in game speed and talent i am not sure if he can play at that calliber.  To say that hartwick would have been the same team that past two years without boltus is a far fetch.  His abilities to move the ball up and down the field have been obviose and some of those who say that he is not a pocket passer but in the brockerport game i recall seeing him sit in the pocket and through a 40yrd rope for a td while being hit. But to move on i am still not sold boltus playing quarterback in the nfl.  However i could see him playing another position.  He more than has the athletic abilitiy to maybe play saftety or special teams.  I know everybody is debating whether he could start in the nfl or play quarterback but that is yet to be determined.  Now if boltus were to be drafted which i would say is possible not im not yet sold that it will happen i could see him maybe being signed as a FA either as a quarterback but also the possiblity of being signed/or drafted as a athlete, and then being put in any position on the field

I've seen Micheli play 3 games (2 as a starter) and I've seen Boltus play a couple times.  It's my opinion that Micheli is the better quarterback.  He is a real double threat guy who is more effective running the ball, and I'm pretty sure he was even used as more of an option style quarterback before he became the starter.  He makes great decisions and can really pick you apart.  Boltus is talented but I don't know if he really deserves all of this extreme high praise, I think of him as more of a good D3 quarterback put into an optimal system which creates the numbers....Like a Timmy Chang from Hawaii, a good quarterback that was put into a quarterback friendly system and he was setting records.  Now I think he is playing in Canada.  If he couldn't make it in the NFL while playing for Hawaii and putting up better numbers than Boltus, I don't know what makes people think Boltus is going to break through.  But hey, it would be cool if he made it.  I am also all for the D3 exposure on the next level.  I'm just saying when compared to Micheli, from what I've seen first hand multiple times...Micheli gets the nod.

Hey All!!  New to the board, greetings from Alfred New York.  Would like to start off by saying great season to all the Empire 8 teams.  We have very high standards for our teams and to be disappointed by winning seasons says a lot about the football being played in the E8. Also like to thank everyone for their support, it means a lot to those playing to have fans that are passionate...

I would like to respond to a topic on the board, Boltus status at the NFL level.  I have played quarterback a good part of my life and have played behind two of the best QB's in Alfred U history.  With that said, Boltus is the real deal.  The pure arm strength and ability to put the ball in any pocket on the field from any position is truly amazing.  The kid also has good speed for someone considered to be a pocket passer.  On the run, in the shotgun, or under center, he can make any throw needed at the NFL level.  The only fault I see besides occasionally holding the ball too long, is that he is too good for the D3 level, not knocking the D3 level but allow me to explain.. He was able to make throws and force balls that would have turned negative in other levels but the competition he was playing against allowed him to do that.  Some of the time it worked out for him and others it did not. But he was able to make poor decisions because he was that good.  I agree that he is the best QB in D3 football and better talent than D1 prospects. I think the NFL scouts with see the pure ability to play QB and capitalize on the "under the radar" talent in the late rounds or supplemental draft.

Welcome aboard, Matt! Glad to see you join the boards...and congrats on another fine season! Hope you had a nice Thanksgiving with the family...now back to the the "final" grind...the band is now striking up "Crunch Time"!
On Saxon Warriors! On to Victory!
...Fight, fight for Alfred, A-L-F, R-E-D!

Welcome!  Nice post.  It's refreshing to see someone come on here and bring something intelligent to the conversation right from the get go.  Hope to see you around in the future.  +K!

I would have to disagree.  Chang was not a dime piece talent and did not posess the abilities or arm strength that Boltus has.  I agree that there are plenty of quarterbacks out there that thrive in their system (Kliff Kingsbury at TT or Kevin Kolb at Houston (Yet to be fully determined))  that may not make it on the next level.  And I also agree that there are many that have fallen through cracks at the NFL level that had brillant college careers such as Timmy Chang. But this is where the advantage of playing D3 ball comes in for Boltus. He's a big fish in a little pond which will draw more attention to himself as well as other talent in D3.  And as for the constant remark about "system guy", Come On!  This is a Hartwick team that is developed an offense around his abilities.  He was able to scramble, roll out, drop back and hit receivers all over the field.  They did not need a run game.  Their O-Line was constantly oversized and the offense had to outscore the opponents to win games.  If anything, he tried too hard to win the games.  He was able to win games, an E8 title!, by simply beating opponents with his arm and occasionally legs.  I would like to see Micheli have the same success in similar circumstances.

Heyy Pep!!
Hope the Thanksgiving was good for you as well!  Crunch time is definitely in gear in my apartment as well as the library for sure.  Thanks for all the support!  And same goes for Kaz, the RPI fans had not heard the likes of Alfred's finest and you left a great impression!

I agree. I only seen Micheli play once (Stagg Bowl 07) compared to the many times I've seen Boltus play so I cant really compare the two. I do however know for a fact that The Boltus made the system strive and not the other way around.

I agree, getting drafted is always a long shot for anyone playing D3 football. And who says supp;emental draft doesnt count? Im sure he along with every other College football player would take that over nothing.

Supplemental draft is for players who dont declare for the April draft...

Usually they include drop outs and dumbasses...

NYSGUY

From what I have been told the Colts were at Hartwick 4 times this year, the Bills, Cardinals, Dolphins, Bears and 49ers were all there twice...all other teams were there once.  I would say considering that the Colts came on 4 seperate occassions that they are most likely going to draft him in the later rounds.  However, we can all sit here and debate this until April no one truly knows until the time comes.

theoriginalupstate

As of right now his chances of being drafted are slim, very slim...

I have yet to see him even listed on any of the rankings of available draftee's...

He is not even listed in the top 30 of available QB's...

Unless that changes towards draft day he's not going to be drafted...

At least Garcon was ranked in the top 25 at his position last year and he was drafted in the 7th round...

Thanks Matt!  I also think the Alfred players had never heard the likes of a Kaz00 lead pep band.  Quite a few quizzical looks from behind the purple helmets as the the kazoo carried the melody on the fight song, but you couldn't deny us our exuberance!  Glad that you're on here posting with deuce (who may need to go back to Denmark before we hear from him again); Pep has had nothing but great things to say about you.  +k

Just because they scouted him doesn't mean they are going to use one of their 7 picks on him.  At best, I see someone offering him an invite to Rookie Camp just to see what he has.  I really doubt we'll ever see Boltus in a NFL uniform.
