and yet we still dont care............... :P

Is someone deflecting?  ;)

Don't worry it'll be....football season soon

(Sorry that pause was while I tried to figure out another sport that SJF could hang with Ithaca in...)

I'll probably be up for the MUC game. Who's the guy to watch this year for SJF? What's the good word?

Anyways Bombers you sure referenced a lot of women's sports in that argument which I said I didn't really look at.  Go back to the sports I mentioned and I was looking at who won the Empire 8 Championships each year, and believe me Ithaca does not have a strong hold on any of them outside of the ones I mentioned.  As for other sports Fisher can "hang" with Ithaca in, like I mentioned before year in and year out I'd say Ithaca would consider it a good year if they could contend with Fisher in basketball and golf.

I'm not dismissing women's athletics by any means but do you honestly truly at the bottom of your heart where your deepest most politically incorrect thoughts reside believe the people making the decisions on which league to join will put more emphasis on competition for the bigger male sports such as basketball, football, lacrosse in New York, etc. or do you think they are saying to themselves man our women's tennis has been dominating, we have to find better competition for them.  I would think it's the former.

I would still bet that if you took winning percentage of all the mens sports within the E8, you would find Ithaca is probably head above the other schools.  Many E8 championships are based on conference tournments, which don't always reflect the strength of a program.  Plus there are other sports that Ithaca has done very well in that the E8 does not have a league for, (no wrestling, crew or gymnastics which are all sports where Ithaca has dominated and won national championships in).

And I don't think the whole move is about the athletic competition.  It might be more of academic competition and recruiting for athletes.  Ithaca has a stronger student body from the suburbs of Philly, New York, and Boston that most other E8 schools don't have.  The LL schools do attract students from the same area Ithaca does, and I bet Ithaca wants to be a part of that group for recruiting purposes as well.

I have experienced that first hand here in Boston.  While coaching and teaching, kids would ask me what kinds of schools Ithaca played against and what league they were in.  These same kids would go to St. Lawrence, Union or Hobart, but probably wouldnt go to schools like SJF, Elmira, Naz or Utica.  It has nothing to do with the schools themselves, just that Ithaca has more of a northeast/mid-atlantic regional student base compared to a regional (new york) student base.

true dat...in fact your starting qb there several years ago graduated behind pbr in high school. lots of kids from around pbr go to the LL schools. just out of curiosity when did ithaca last win a national championship in wrestling? (pbr too lazy to look it up)

1989, 1990, and 1994 (when I was there).  They finished 6th in the country this year and have always been a strong program.

I may have missed the boat on this but has anyone heard anything on Boltus? I thought he did pretty well at the combine (to an extent) and even though I didn't expect him to get drafted I thought that by now he would have been invited to a camp. Considering how he faired against some big time D1 talent at the combine I think he may even be worth signing as a third stringer with some potential. Just curious...

I think I heard on here somewhere that he was about to sign with a CFL team.

This maybe old news but TGP recently noticed that Hobart has scheduled SJF for their 3rd game of the season in 2010.

I didn't know that, that's awesome that they are getting that series going again.  There were some really exciting games between the two the last couple of years they played each other during the regular season.

saxon8, you need to put down the purple kool aid. Please expand on the great football tradition in the E8 besides the 3 obvious NC's by the bombers. Buff State had a good run back in the day, and Hartwick passes alot, so they have that going for them.  Utica is brand new, SJF has been good the past 10 years but we know what they were like before that. Alfred is the prennial middle of the pack team in the E8, always waiting for that breakout season that never happens (see Rochester in the LL).

RPI, Union, Hobart, SLU, and Rochester have been playing eachother for decades. RPI/WPI have played over 100 games. No tradition there...

And without getting into who beat who in what year, I would say that the LL & E8 are at the very least on par with one another... fighting for the best in NY title each year.

It is evident that the hatred toward the "lesser" LL comes from Alfred's recent loss to RPI in the ECAC's.

haha alright alright... Purple Drink?... Its senior week, which means cheap beer.  Maybe I should invest in some of that purple drink because I have a serious headache right now.

Anyways, I can deal with a little razzing, all in good fun.  My comment on the traditions of better football in the E8 was pretty much historical, implying that schools in the E8 date back longer and honestly, I could be wrong.  I know Alfred dates back to the late 19th century (correct me if I'm wrong Pep) and Springfield has a pretty rich history as well.  Not to mention IC's national championships.  I cant say much about the traditions in the LL because honestly I dont know.  However, I wasnt saying they dont have great rivalries, I was simply talking about the history of football at the schools, which Alfred has one of the greatest in the Northeast, historically.

As for the comment about the RPI loss, low blowwwww... It still stings  :(  I'm not gonna sit on here and complain about it but we had the game won until one play, literally.  And I havent faired particularly well against Hobart in my career but I think the level of play is higher in the E8. Just my opinion.

Is Fisher still trying to put the schedule together for fall 09?
havent seen it.

As of now they still have 9 games, they've been getting feelers from other divisions for games but nothing serious...

Maybe if they weren't so arrogant they could get a SUNY school to play them to get them to ten.  ;)

Regarding IC's dominance in the empire 8 outside of baseball...

Let's take the last 5 years, so it's even in each sport, although certain sports could go back much farther with their "domination" (Regular season records only)

Men's Lax

2005: 7-0
2006: 7-0
2007: 7-0
2008: 6-1
2009: 7-1

Softball

2005: 10-2
2006: 12-0
2007: 12-0

Total: 26-0

Volleyball

2005: 7-0
2006: 6-1
2007: 5-3
2008: 3-3

Total 24-7

Women's Basketball

2005: 12-1
2006: 9-5
2007: 10-4
2008: 14-2
2009: 13-3

Total: 58-15

Combined conference record of eight sports over the last 5 years:

278-37-4 (.871) 18 undefeated seasons out of 40 total

Yeah, what are the Bombers thinking? Other then baseball, their teams are just not that dominant in anything. Now of course, some of these teams struggle in the conference postseason, but how many other E8 teams can trot out a winning percentage like that? Obviously, baseball and football are no slouches either. In the last five years, I doubt anyone can match those kinds of numbers (although you can prove me wrong)

Also, yes, some of those sports are what you may call, "fringe" sports, but they all make up a school's athletic program, and Ithaca has a strong showing in many sports across the board (This doesn't even take into account Women's crew, Wrestling, Women's swimming, and Women's track programs, all traditionally very strong) Ithaca is the only E8 school to finish in the Top 30 of the Directors Cup standings all 12 years of it's existence. Sport for sport, I'd put IC up against any other E8 school.

Ithaca College would not be displaying arrogance if they left the E8.

thanks for the IC encyclopedia brittanica...do I get a free gift with my order?

I know, they haven't played a SUNY school since 2008.   ;D

Sounds like it could be a real tough schedule for Fisher this year. They already have MUC, Hobart, and Salisbury. Not to mention the Ithacas and AU's of the world. Wooo. That is a little scary. Could be tough this year.
GO FISHER!!!

RPI also improved it's SOS in 2010 by scheduling an OOC game with Troy High School. King said he feels this "test" will better prepare the Engineers for the postseason and possibly help them with an at-large bid to the tourney if the don't win the LL. MMA volunteered to play the Engineers twice to fill the void left by traditional powerhouse Endicott but after last year year's debacle King declined. Sorry guys just couldn't resist.

Don't know where to start on this 1.......Union, Hobart & RPI have less 'history' than anyone in the E8 but Ithaca??

Bart in 2010, not 2009...

SJF has the same schedule as last year minus Norwich...
