Anybody here the rumor that Frostburg and Salisbury will enter the Empire 8?

Pep heard that Frostburg State was a possible E8 prospect but that Frostburg would accept only as part of a "package deal" that included Salisbury State and Wesley. Pep thinks that would be highly unlikely.

I heard that the presidents voted Frostburg and Salisbury in but not Wesley. Heard it could start as early as 2010. I am sure Frostburg and Salisbury are lobbying for Wesley.

That's kind of surprising because only last week the posters on the ACFC/Independents board were hyping the fact that Stevenson U. was adding football, opening up the possibility of a football schedule and potential AQ for the CAC. Maybe Frostburg and Salisbury just couldn't wait, or the E8 looked like a better option.

I am waiting for the press release and the details of "pre-nuptials".

For how long will the affiliation last? What notice must the schools give to  leave?

Part of that "rumor" could be that those schools have no one to play in that time of the season when the NJAC, the LL, the Centennial, the MAC and everyone else are playing conference games.

I think I see what your saying Ralph.  If every E8 team simply has a home and home with Salisbury and Frostburg, why not just join the league for 2 years, or make it 4 untill other d3 teams come into the fray....

Good points JU.

I think that the presidents know that they need to preserve the AQ, and this strategy works while the Capital is getting under way.

The strategy does not interfere with the Regents Cup for Frostburg and Salisbury.

It would move Salisbury out of Pool B.

Wesley will need to find games somewhere.

Maybe this is a dumb question but is this just for football? Losing RIT leaves at least one spot open for all sports but that is a long trip for teams that play each team home and home in a season.

I doubt it.  Doesnt make sense to add them for other sports anyway.

Not up on conference affiliation rules, scheduling, etc, but if these teams joined E8, wouldnt they just have to find a couple OOC games to fill their schedules, the same as the the other conference teams do anyway...?

Arent these teams independents now?  If so, presumably they would have no problem filling their schedule with the 2 or 3 of the same IND. teams now on their schedule.

oops...my post in bold.

Is E8Nation still around?

I've been gone so long IC almost moved to the LL (truth be told, I was in favor of the move).

[EDIT]  Wow.  Gone so long I still have a Bergerstock signature I created after 8 games...  Yikes

boobyhasgameyo

So the IC to the LL move is 100% dead now?

Yup.  RIT and Bard got the nod, so the E8 should survive though we'll need another football team if we're to keep our AQ.

Hopefully the E8 announces a football addition soon. I don't know if they are having trouble finding a team to replace norwich, or if this Salisbury/Frostburg thing is going to pan out, but it seems like there would be a team out there somewhere that would need/want to join a conference.

On Monday the E8 will announce that Frostburg and Salisbury are joining as football-only members for the 2011 season.

Discuss.

Wow...ask and you shall receive.

Thanks for the update, I must have missed that. Well adds some travel to the football schedule but should make it a lot easier for Fisher to get 10 games from now on.

fisheralum91

that is good news.
Tho lilke i said before- the whole tenure of the E8 loses a step
tho im glad that they will keep the aq

Jonny Utah

I guess its good that they have an AQ,  and Salisbury is a good addition, but I think the whole system needs to be changed.  Not fair to have schools jump conferences back and forth just so the NCAA can make easier decisions on who does or doesn't make the playoffs.  The NCAA is basically forcing schools from Maryland and maybe Deleware to travel and spend all this money just so they can make easy decisions.  Its not fair to a school like Salisbury who takes its football program pretty serious to travel so much.  I also think the NCAA should count games against div 2, or 1-aa teams more than they do (if they really dont anyway)

That being said, I wish Mt. Ida, Tufts and MIT were the schools added.  No way Im going to be able to head way down there to see any of those games.

JQV

You're right about it being brutal on the travel budget for all programs involved but I wonder if the NCAA isn't getting what it wants.

Seems like the D3 game is becoming more national every year.  Stretching the E8 from New York to Virginia is just another step in creating mutli-regional (geographic regions not NCAA regions) rivalries perhaps.

I always thought of the D3 game as being more about local or regional rivalries where the D1 game was about national rivalries but it seems like D3 is taking on a lot of D1 aspects.

AUKaz00

And let's not forget that all the E8 schools would love to increase their enrollment from Virginia/Maryland and Salisbury and Frostburg St from New York.
