Any word or thoughts on why it was Salisbury & Frostburg instead of Salisbury & Wesley?

I don't know that Wesley was or wasn't invited, or would have accepted if they were; just asking at this point. But Wesley & Salisbury seem like a more natural match. Then with Frostburg left out in the cold, they could've been the 10th PAC school ... or joined the USAC when the ODAC finally takes Shenandoah :)

I heard the football team academics were an issue with Wesley.  The head football coach is the AD I believe. There are rumors that they can take some athletes that others can't.  Just the rumor on the street.

Hmmph.

Drass is the AD, or the "Executive Director of Sports and Recreation." That's true. Doesn't mean he has the power to squeeze kids through admissions, or would abuse it if he could.

I've heard that knock on school academics before, with Wesley and other schools. I like it about as much as I like "the Empire 8 was scared to add two teams that might very well be perennially the best two teams in the conference," so I hope there's something better at the end of this tunnel.

Academics seems to be a fall-back sort of argument for any team that is perennialy strong.  "The only way they win is because they let anybody play."  Mount Union has been fighting that for years.  Ask Greg Michelli how many schools told him that his academics weren't strong enough.  This argument seems to try and be the "civilized" version of the losers chant: "That's alright, that's OK, you'll all work for us someday."

Really?  Academics?  C'mon Hartwick, you're better than that.

But when Michelli wants to get his Beemer fixed, he'll have to come to an E8 Grease Monkey, so who's really at the other's mercy?

oh good gravy peeps dont start this argument here...pbr went thru this over on the MAC board when susque a.k.a. sasquatch left and their holier than thou of the rest of the conference doesnt have the same academic requirements we do...and juniata's same thing of walking around w/ their noses in the air and we will never win in the MAC as we have much more stringent academics and dont let people of questionable character in.... ::)    the argument just goes around and around in circles dont bother with it bottom line is people are going to believe what they want to believe. in pbr's eyes its a tired convienent excuse of schools getting their rear ends kicked every year that dont want to make a financial commitment to its athletic programs.

First a disclaimer....I did not attend Hartwick, nor do I have any family members that are attending Wick, etc.   I am just a football fan and they happen to be the closest college to me.  I don't know the academic standing of Hartwick vs. any other school. Just a middle class blue collar football fan who has some insight due to friendships I have.

I would suggest anyone with connections at other E8 schools ask them why Wesley was denied.

My goal was not to trash Wesley's academics, just reporting on what I heard.  There must have been a reason they would not allow them in!

Sometimes these 'rumors' aren't actually about the school itself, but the sports program and how it represents the school  Southern Cal football gets a bad rap, as does (or did) Georgetown basketball, or how about Duke Lacrosse.  And those are two of the best schools in the country.  Hell, even Williams College football got some heat in the 1990s because they were so dam good and people didn't like it.

In the lax world There has always been rumors in the gossip circle about Salisbury and their lacrosse program and the types of kids they let in.  A lot of it has to do with the fact that they were the Mt. Union of d3 lacrosse for a 10 year period and won multiple national championships and people from Washington and Gettysburg colleges didn't like it.

I don't believe Wesley wasn't let in for this reason.  I think they weren't let in because E8 teams didn't want to have 4 long overnight extra trips in a 2 year period.

wickfan,
i find it odd that you are blue collar and yet root for a college that is anything but.

As soon as Delhi fields a team, he can become a fan of the Broncos.

Why,  I'm also a Syracuse fan, is there certain rules I have to follow?  Does one have to be a fan of the college or university or can they just be a fan of the team that represents the institution?

I am sure Hartwick has some white collar rich folks kids on the team, but I also notice a lot of rural town kids on the team.  I am sure all their mom and dad's are not doctors, lawyers, etc.

wickfan thats great that you are a fan.  People are usually very wary of those types on there as most of the time these "posters" end up being players on the team.  I believe you though.  Its good to have more fans here.

wickfan- no disrespect intented.
you are a loyal fan.
i respect that.
i just have little good to sayabout  that institution--read my many rants in the past about my feelings about wick.
tho- none are aimed at the football team--specific to the college itself.
