5'5", 145lb Freshman Brandon Short from East HS is apparently making a big (pun intended) impact.  He could be Julio Fuentes 2.0...

5'11", 200lb Freshman Christian Zemaitis from Spencerport HS is looking really good and pushing for the starting job as well...

Pep will contend that there's only ONE Julio Fuentes...a pistol at 5'2" who on a basketball court could out-rebound guys a foot taller than him...and on the football field there was a lot of heart. Pep still is amazed how he carried the Saxons to victory at Growney in 2005....on a field-goal producing long drive consisting mostly of draw plays to Julio.

Pep doesn't know too much about Short but Zemaitis likely is the real deal, probably with high school stats comparable to AU recruits Chuck Beckwith (Victor) and Chris Lopez (Pittsford-Sutherland).

Won't argue with that at all Pep regarding Julio.  I was using him as a point of reference to describe his running style.  Extremely elusive and hard to get a handle on where he is behind the line.

Also I wouldn't compare the stats of Zemaitis with anyone, Spencerport HS is basically garbage and Zemaitis was their only player.  He had nothing around him, I was surprised he did as well as he did there...

Here's how the E8 squads have been "ranked" by Pat Coleman and Keith McMillan:
xxxxx
Pep has learned that AU will scrimmage Susquehanna in Selinsgrove, PA at 7:30 p.m. Friday evening. Pep has an opportunity to attend the scrimmage...though it will be a late nite getting back, Pep is sure he'll be ready for Band Camp at 11 a.m.

The AU jayvees will scrimmage Alfred State at 11 a.m. Saturday here in Mayberry...

Hmm -- maybe we should encourage more E8 fans to purchase it. People can discuss it inside Kickoff with the story commenting function.

Sorry, Pat..... :( Let's just say....hey E8 fans...guess where Pat Coleman and Keith McMillan have ranked the E8 squads. Purchase Kickoff and see it for yourself! Is that better? Heck, I still owe ya for the play-by-play over the phone of that fantastic finish between Alfred and Catholic years ago!!!

Took the Kaz00 boys and met up with Pep down at Merrill to watch practice tonight.  I could watch that all day, though every play resulted in the same mixed emotions: "Great catch!  Where was the secondary on that?" "Great pursuit.  How come the quarterback didn't get rid of the ball quicker?"  At least the answers start to come tomorrow night in Selinsgrove.

SJF fans......take heart......if Mount plays next week like they played tonight in their scrimmage against W & J, it will be a good game.  It will be weird for you guys to see a Mount team with literally NO running game, but that's basically what was happening tonight.  The defense did play well though, so I think Mount will have to count on it until the offense comes around.

See some of you guys next week!

it was a scrimmage against a team that has a MUC alum as its head coach and is 99-20 in the reg. since '99....i'll expect all MUC usually has to offer next Saterday and if SJF is up to the task, even if only for this one game, then I will take it and be happy...under no circumstances would I consider an unlikely win or even a close game as some indication that MUC is weaker than normal....when have they been weak in the last 15 years?

Final from Selinsgrove - AU 38, Susquehanna 17.

SU got out to a 17-7 lead off some Secky interceptions.  Saxons tied it up just before the half then ran away with it once the second stringers came out of the locker room.  Thankfully no major injuries.

SJFF82 - I understand, and agree to some level with most of your points, but in the last two or three scrimmages (prior to this year's), when W & J had some of their best teams, Mount POUNDED them with an average score of like 7 touchdowns to 2.

I know people will say we are spoiled, and don't appreciate what we have at Mount, but they really did appear to be much more human than other years.  How will that translate on SatERday, who knows?

Enough for me to lower the spread a TD.  ;D

I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Statistics are like bikinis; what they reveal is interesting, what they hide is essential.

MOUNT UNION at ST. JOHN FISHER (+31.5)  ???  I think that might be a little high considering how much players Mount Union is losing this year
