Not to get too excited, but might this be the year Rodney Dangerfield moves out of Mayberry?  Mayberry juice might be the new Kool Aid.  :)

Saxons clearly looking like the team to beat right now...Fisher a close second, Springfield third, IC fourth, Wick fifth and Utica sixth...at least that's how I see it

The pattern, year after year, of Fisher blowing away Ithaca following halftime is not a very good reflection upon the IC coaching staff.

Pep,

I see you lurking out there.  Can you give some specifics on today's game?

p.s.  The Hartwick radio wouldn't come through my computer.  Did get the Ithaca video after I thought to try it.

Just got back, obviously another quality effort for Fisher against Ithaca.  However the Ithaca people were saying the same thing last year after Fisher blew them out, how the winning seasons streak could be in jeopardy and such...Then ultimately Ithaca will win the remainder of their games and you will all say Ithaca just gets better as the year goes along, and if they played Fisher in week 10 it would be a different story, etc. etc.  So bottom line is things are playing out like they normally have the past few years, Ithaca will be fine...They'll win the remainder of their E8 schedule, Fisher will lose to some team they should beat such as Hartwick and then force themselves into a situation where they must beat a team like Alfred to get in the playoffs.  You wait, it's going to happen...

Saxon73

Booby,

You raise valid points.  All I can say is that with this year's start at least the Saxons didn't lose their first game of the year.  This gives Saxon73 great hope.  Everything changes sooner or later.  We keep hoping.  As Jimmy Valvano said "don't ever give up."

Saxon 73,
Long time no post.  I was at the game today and the Saxon defense was awesome the whole game. Up 35-10 at half then very sloppy on offense in second half.  Fumbles, interception, ball snapped over punters head.  But the defense continued to hang tough.  I don't think I will make the Fisher game this year.  But I will be in Ithaca on Nov. 7.

Go Saxons

Saxon73

Fellow Tad,

Good that you would communicate.  Hope all is well.  I'm planning on going to Pittsford and if all goes well to Ithaca as well.  It's a trip from the Catskill's for an old Saxon such as myself.  But, I can still rally when need be.  Looking forward.

Possibly, but Ithaca's a couple plays away from being 2-4. Their only two impressive wins came against an awful St. Lawrence and Widener.

Also, this team isn't even CLOSE in talent level to last year's team. The Ithaca offensive line was one of the best in the region last year, and most of those guys are gone. They lost their quarterback, their two best pass-catchers, their top corners and both their kick returners. And their best overall player is hurt.

Last season, following the Fisher game, Ithaca played Norwich on the road and then had three straight home games against weak opponents. This season, after Frostburg, they play a Springfield team averaging 45 points a game and an Alfred team averaging 38 and then Cortaca. It's not like those three games will be easy.

The bigger question now: Can Fisher avoid a 3rd straight "We just destroyed Ithaca" letdown? Scheduling Utica probably helps, but who knows what the Pioneers will do with two weeks to prepare?

Can anyone answer why Ithaca changed from the 3-4 to the 4-3?  I didnt see any of this game, so I probably shouldnt say anything, but the 3-4 gives you that contain player that stops the outside run and can still cover the flat.  If you want to run the 4-3, you need some linebackers that run to the ball hard.  I dont think Ithaca has the LBs to do that.  It seems like they have 3 middle line backers playing all three positions.  having 3 middle linebackers is fine (you can put 2 inside in the 3-4 or 4-4), but its too slow to have all 3 playing in the 4-3.  Im still pissed that kid Becker transfered after the 2007 season.  He was a stud.  Can he come back after his navy stint?

Ithacas oline is not athletic enough to play against agressive defenses.  They are big and tall, but can not block downfield and open up holes against tough defenses.  They are probably a better spread oline that should zone block with a shot gun.

I have not been impressed with an Ithaca running back in 20 years.  I probably shouldnt say things like that, as Ithaca has had some pretty tough backs, but its time to recruit the best player in upstate or NE to Ithaca that doesnt get a full ride to a d1 school.

Ithaca has had some great quarterbacks, Wrs and Tight ends, but its time to step up and get some stud running backs, tough onlinemen, and some quick hard hitting linebackers back into the program.

rant over.  Im going to drink.

But did we not see this comming today?  SJF has always been bigger than IC.  Always.  Im ****ing sick of it.  ****ing pussies.

IC ditched the 3-4 after Pendergrast left.

The only think I'll say JU is that Jamie Donovan had the ability, he was just never 100% after his freshman season. But it's been pretty sad since Scott, Parker and Wittman left.

It's not that they haven't been tough backs. They just aren't game-changing backs.

But frankly, with Ithaca College currently over-enrolled at record levels, maybe it will change...

And here's another thing about that: Blaise wants to beat Fisher. Period. And he has a few assistants who were also at Fisher who wants to show the Cardinals what's up.

I think it'll be a good game in two weeks.

In the past 5-10 years, AU has ended the season with IC and SJF the last 2 weeks of the season.  AU has a bye before the Fisher game this year, followed by U of R, IC, and they finish with Utica.  It will be interesting to how the change in scheduling affects the end of the year.  I'm hoping it ends with AU receiving an NCAA bid.

Bombers798891

Hey, who knows, maybe the Bombers will rally from their annual drubbing from Fisher. It's worked before. Maybe next year we close with it so we rebound and go on a playoff run...

I'd hate to be Frostburg next week, that's for sure. (Ok, I'd hate to be Frostburg period, but still..)
