8) 2001: Destroying a laughably overrated RPI in the 2nd round of the playoffs on the road 27-10 with our backup QB and a WR playing cornerback

Bombers(old numbers) you've made a powerful enemy today my friend!!

that was my last game at RPI, and aside from an azz whoopin at the hands of Hobart in 2000, the most frustrating loss of Gro's career. You say RPI was laughingly overrated (sarcasm duly noted, the #1 ranking was a bit much) but gro thinks to this day IC was not that much better than we were (doesn't everyone say that when they lose?). The better team definetly won that day don't get me wrong, we just got outcoached and outplayed.

Long story short: blizzard bowl, blizzard bowl, blizzard bowl, curry, blizzard bowl, curry, blizzard bowl.   8)

The most memorable thing to happen during that playoff game was IC's play-by-play guy explaining how there was no press box (or no room in the press box or something) for the coaches so IC's booth coaches were standing on the balcony of a nearby academic building:

"Angelicho looks like he is in the book depository in Dallas."

Ha ha good call on the blizzard bowl. Frankly, that game probably deserves to be there more than the Buff. State game. I think that what the telling thing about the 2001 game was, like I noted, that IC's backup QB, who had never started a game before, did so well and that IC's defensive backfield was so decimated by injuries, Jeff Welch (who later became IC's #3 all time leading reciever) was plating both ways. That's not a game you expect to win by 17 on the road. Especially when there was some debate (if I remember correctly) as to whether or not IC even deserved to go that year.

The SJF Press Release regarding the O-line:

They were a large part in Fisher becoming the second program since 1974 to beat Ithaca in four consecutive years.

That other team? Buffalo State, who topped Ithaca from 1995-1999. That's sort of hard to believe, but other than Brockport and Cortland, those are the only other schools to really give IC a hard time recently

Here's hoping Fisher's post-"we own IC" years go a bit smoother than the Bengals' did...

I'll go from 2000 on, since apparently, that's when football became relevant for certain schools...from Pittsford...who wear Cardinal and Gold...(although even that list doesn't start until 2003)

We could do the top ten wins from the late 70's and early 80's if that will make Bomber fans feel better.  ;D
I am just kidding. I just threw thew the 2000 on thing on the list because Fisher fankly did not have any wins of note before then.
GO FISHER!!!

Come on man, we didn't stop being a National power until 1994... :D

Actually, the Fisher-Ithaca thing brings up an interesting debate as to how much should we value the past vs. the present. Obviously, as a Bomber fan, I hold the past near and dear, but those years are becoming less and less relevant and IC becomes less and less of a national player. It'll happen to you Fisher fans! (Unless you go all Mount Union on us)

Gro you could always add that RPI has won 10 out of 11 vs SJF as opposed to IC losing 5 of their past 6 vs SJF...

Which would be relevant if any of those wins came in a year IC actually lost to Fisher...which they didn't. We could beat Fisher in the late 90's/early 00's too. Funny how they disappeared from RPI's schedule right around the time they got good... ;)

Any Fisher guys have any feedback on Salisbury....their defense seems like a total enigma.  How does Fisher run all over Ithaca, but a few games earlier rush for (-44) yards against Salisbury?  I figured Salisbury must have an extremely dominant rush D....not really, Salisbury's previous game against a very mediocre Christopher Newport gave up 300 yards on the ground.  Anybody see this game or have a reason why Salisbury was able to totally shut down the Cardinals on the ground?

I'm curious in that Union plays Salisbury in a couple weeks and could be another good measuring stick of the Dutchmen & Cardinals for comparison sake.

What was up with Salisbury's defense and/or Fisher's offense in that contest?

SJF did lose to RPI in the ECAC game at the end of the 2005 season...

Yes, but as my post stated, none of RPI's wins over Fisher came in years that IC lost to them, which includes 2005

Salisbury is a more athletic and more diverse version of Springfield.  They can be just as good as SC on the ground plus they have a way more effective passing game.

WARNING THESE ARE NOT EXCUSES:

Mistakes during the 2nd half of the game:

-SJF turned the ball over twice on downs...

-threw two INTs...

-had a snap go over the punters head, the punter picked it up in the back of the endzone, punted it to the 1 yard line and walked into the endzone (that has to be a record for the shortest punt return)...

SJF fell apart that game, they couldn't get out of their own way if they tried...

Mistake after mistake cost them that game...
