Is Ithaca even going to be in the E8 for much longer?

I missed most of the summer conversation, as Tecmo Jr. found his way into the world, but I thought the word on the street was that we were LL bound.... has anything changed?

Ithaca was NOT accepted into the LL. RIT was picked....along with the Bard Raptors.

Plus....Salisbury State and Frostburg State are entering the E8 for 2011 as football affiliates.

I don't think that football is driving the LL ship on that decision, but the E8ers should note that they did apply to go to the LL, which indicates intent to leave, so my guess is that this story will be ongoing until a year or two after SU and Frostberg are in the conference.  No one seems to believe that SU and Frostberg are a long term part of the E8 equation.

I was informed Ithaca turned down  the LL? What was the reasoning if they denied them?

The LL probably would have made IC stop scheduling Cortland because we all know that the LL is too good to play state schools...

Nope.  Pep is right.  We wanted in but they didn't want us.  Rumor had it that it was because IC put too much emphasis on athletics and the LL puts more emphasis on academics.  That is at least the opinion of the Presidents of the LL members, not the general fan base I am sure.

This is exactly what dlip heard to Viper. Honestly dlip is an LL guy to the bone but he was not happy about that call.

Yea I had heard Ithacas large size as a liberal arts (sports/phys ed) hurt them.  The LL wanted more of a focus on nationally recognized small liberal arts programs (Union, Hobart, Bard, Skidmore), large nationally recognized tech programs (RPI, Clarkson,) and less of a focus on sport related issues that many schools have (Ithaca, Springfield, Cortland, Umass).

Wouldn't the addition of Frostburg St and Salisbury St hurt the conference? It is almost as if a cupcake in Norwich leaves and two cupcakes arrive. Won't this allow for one less OOC game each year for the E8 as well?

Hmm well that really surprises me.  I know I'm biased but I would think Ithaca is a lot closer to the likes of SLU and Hobart than Frostburg state, etc.  Especially with its communications and music schools being so highly regarded.  Oh well...their loss!

Salisbury is not a cupcake and I don't believe Frostburg St is either.

Frostburg isn't good this year but Salisbury already hung 38 on Fisher and beat Union.

Adding two teams adds a conference game but we already have at least two E8 members with 9-game schedules in 2009 plus, Frostburg and Salisbury at least have one conference road trip that is relatively short by coming together.

I wouldn't worry about adding two for the long haul.  There is a good chance that Springfield leaves eventually now that they are the only member in New England.

By the way, what happens when a conference crosses regions?  Aren't Salisbury and Frostburg in the South?  Can a game be both an in-conference and an out-of-region game at the same time for the NCAA's calculations?

Cupcakes? Both may be down at present but Pep wouldn't call them cupcakes. And, as a matter of fact, both Alfred and Fisher have only nine games this season...and would likely welcome a couple more E8 foes.

Alfred attempted to fill the open Oct. 17 date with Hobart...and was also talking with DePauw (Greencastle, IN) but Pep is thinking the administration couldn't justify the cost of a trip to Indiana during these financially troubling times. Pep also pushed for AU to play at Centre College in Danville, KY which also had the Oct. 17 date open and would have been a match of unbeatens, but for similar reasons that did not materialize.

Made a mistake with Salisbury comment, was referring more to Frostburg, and thier troubles this year.
