I thought Brockport would be a lot better against Ithaca. They came into the game 2-1 and were right where I thought they'd be at this time of the season. It won't get any easier for the Golden Eagles either. It's clear after last week's performance that they miss Lynch in the backfield. In year's past, they'd have someone to plug up that starting hole like a Brian Wise. But, they don't have anyone really that can shoulder the load. Luke projected to be good and I still think he will be. He's young and I think he has lots of room to improve.

All that being said, they still have the best chance in the ACFC to upset Wesley. No offense to the other teams, but I can't see them giving Wesley much of a game. Brockport's played them tough the last few years and stomped them handily last year. Good news for Brockport. There's lots of season left. The Golden Eagles are one of those teams that when you think they're out of it, they'll surprise you and knock someone off or play a very good team a lot closer than they should.

As for Wesley, they're pretty good. Good as last year? I'm not sure yet. They have a great senior quarterback, Chris Warrick, who was the league's offensive player of the year last year. He has very good receivers in Marcus Lee and Jon Lanuouette who can catch the ball and run with it. (Ooops)

Actually, Lee hasn't played a down yet this season. According to the local press, Lee's out with a high ankle sprain. Michael Clarke has been Wesley's top wide out so far. Alpha Koroma looked like he was going to get the nod in the backfield. But, it's actually been freshmen Aaron Jackson taking up most of the backfield load. There's a nice article about him on the Wesley site though I wouldn't call getting recruited by Syracuse anything exciting.

More on Wesley later.

Wesley is the team whose starting RB from last year was declared ineligible by the school...right?

And what's so wrong with talking about women and beer??

Nothing, Mr. Away, but there are other, much shadier message boards exclusively devoted to this topic.

Budcrew, you should profile Wesley next week.  I also know nothing about them.  Well, I know more than Maxpower but, that is about par for the course on this topic.

Thank you, Jose, for stating the obvious. You'll make a great lawyer.

good one jose.......but even you have to agree rowand should still be #1

I have said so any number of times.  I am merely commenting on the fact that the Around the East column used all its space on Rowan the last few years and then would drop a line the last paragraph that said "Apparently, it has been brought to the author's attention that there are other, non-Rowan, teams in the East.  The author thinks this is probably not true but will investigate and report back next week."

The change of fortunes strikes me as ironic.

I agree, Jose. Been thinking the same thing. One time last year, the column, after a long dissertation on Rowan, threw in a small item about Alfred's runningback going for 100+ yards, which was fine, but the stats he shared were from two weeks previous...and Newsome had gone for more yards in the more recent game.

While I appreciate the NY emphasis, it's best to find the middle ground and write about ALL of the region as best as one can. It must be challenging, however, as I know how difficult it can be to get information from some schools.
On Saxon Warriors! On to Victory!
...Fight, fight for Alfred, A-L-F, R-E-D!

So anyone have any idea on Lynch or the Tackle from Brockport?

Maybe Pat could pull some strings and make a call to Rocco to get the scoop?

If Lynch plays:
SJF 28 Port 17

If Lynch sits:
SJF 34 Port 10

Out of curiosity, if the field at 'Port is in really bad shape (as it tends to be) how does that effect Fisher's offense?

Sloppy field + Lynch = Possible Upset?

theoriginalupstate

Oh and notice how your not seeing any tripple reverse passes this year by SJF?

Wonder what could of happened to change that?

I'd like to be the first to recognize first year Cordinator Dave Parks.  With the exception of the first half of the IC game the play calling has been great.  I understand that IC would stack the box early, and going to the air early could of paid off huge if they completed some early passes.  However, being a former lineman I would of rather ran the ball early to let the backs and lineman set the tone of the game.  Thats just the fat guy in me i guess....

Coach Parks has been sticking with what they do best all season and have dictated the flow of a game.  They havent been tricky or try to out think the other team.  So kudos to Coach Parks on the early season success by the offense!

John said it wasnt in bad shape vs IC.  It has been raining in the area off and on this week though.

That being said, I remember the argument leading up to the 2004 Brockport game that Robinson wouldnt play well on that field.  He ended up w/ 36 carries for 178 yds and 2tds in the "Hail Mary" game.  Im not worried about the field, this line averages 285 lbs, so its not like the past SJF lines where they'd get manhandled by bigger lines on grass fields.

Unless its a total slop fest, they are calling for sunny weather in the 60's, I dont see the hill brockport calls a field an issue!

I gave you that last karma point for giving credit to the OC you bashed so hard during the first half of the IC game.  I know from first hand experience it is hard to come around on things like that.

How is the new OC at IC.  I liked ang but who is the new guy

The new OC/OL Coach is Rob Schur.

I don't know that much about him but I am not crazy about the way he has handled the Donovan/Baez situation thus far.  Doesn't seem like he is maximizing either of their ability.  Also seems like he could be more creative with Juvan's athleticism.

Im not gonna lie, I hated the fact that they came out throwing when they have an extremely talented offensive line and 2 1,000yd rushers on the roster. I was totally flipping out in the first half, so bad my wife couldnt stand me yelling at the computer, she ended up going shopping thankfully!

This team is all about the Defense and the Offensive Line, it evolved (out of necessity with the loss of Noah) from a spread offense that likes to throw it 30 plus times to a ball controll team.  They'll win alot of games this season if they continue to let the offensive line and defense lead the team.

Once in the redzone you better keep an eye on their TE, he's pretty effective there with 4 TDs on the season!

Close. You're thinking of Larry Beavers (what a great name), one of their big play guys in the playoffs last year. He was going to be one of their starting receivers. Their starting tailback, Kevin Nelson, graduated. This offense is putting up good numbers without of all their key components. They don't have a defining win yet but defeating Huntingdon with ease in Alabama helps their cause. If they can get Marcus Lee healthy and their freshmen back keeps improving, they'll be a tough out towards playoff time.
