54 days until the Saxons kick off 2010 with the Pride of Widener! Will Merrill Field be ready?

Meanwhile, Pep believes there are four high school football teams in Saxonville today for the Gridiron Champions Football Camp headed by Coach Dave Murray.

Congrats to Soehner! Given Soehner's role on the offensive line, Pep wonders whether an offensive lineman is maybe the most difficult position from which to garner honors(?) What statistics does one personally generate as an offensive lineman to warrant recognition?

None, basically. What we did last year, however, that was different than previous years, was we polled all D-III head coaches to find out who were the best linemen they saw, live or on video.

This year's preseason All-American team is the first big use of those results -- last year we asked the question too late to really consider the answers in our All-Region voting, and that made it difficult to use in the All-American process. However, players who were named by multiple coaches and were returning this year were considered highly on this preseason team. Some of them weren't even nominated last year.

Thanks, Pat. That sounds like a good way to figure it out...of course, an explosive offense with few sacks and lots of rushing yardage is also a good indicator of an offensive line's effectiveness, but it takes a cohesive unit. Or, where do they run in short yardage situations? But as stated before, offensive linemen have no official stats one can consider for recognition purposes.

It reminds me of Madden where the video game keeps track of "pancakes" haha... I'm pretty sure that determines who the best lineman are... haha just kidding!

Haha! Saxon8, you may have just begun a new statistical category for football.
Pep proposes the following statistical terms for offensive linemen:

Pancake--Blocking an opponent so as to put him on his back
Decleater--Blocking an opponent so hard so as to knock him out of his shoes
Stack of Pancakes--Blocking three opponents in one play, putting each on his back

Suggestions?

Hahaha I wonder which one would qualify as a "short stack"  ;)

Short Stack is blocking 2 opponents onto their back.

Sadly enough, I was not taken in this year's supplemental draft.

Rumor has it that Pep was checked out by the Raiders to compete for the # 1 QB spot.  Of course, after Al Davis found out Pep graduated High School two years before he did, negotiations fell through...
