My point exactly!

Ditto, Ditto, Ditto....

and in other news, this just in.....

University of Mount Union has announced that it is leaving the Ohio Athletic Conference and will be the ninth team to join the New England Football Conference in 2013. Coach Larry Kehres said the move is necessary for the Purple Raiders to continue their domination in conference play and guarantee the Purple Raiders a place in the NCAA D3 Football Championships.

"We had a nail-biter with Baldwin-Wallace last year and it's apparent the other OAC teams are catching up," explained Kehres, "If we are going to keep alive our 57-game conference win streak, we will be much better equipped to do that in the NEFC than the OAC."

So who wants to meet the NEFC champ in the 2013 playoffs?

If this post has any resemblance to the absolute truth, it is purely coincidental.

Haha, Pep! +k  I wonder if the total points given up in conference play would exceed 25.

I seriously wonder if MUC could keep those teams under 25 yards of offense a game during a whole season...

Upstate- Dont you think that this change will "steal" a bid for a MUCH MORE DESERVING team that played in a stronger conference?
Like----any other conference?

Oh absolutely, Fisher doesn't get in if this was in effect this year...

I was just making a sarcastic, tongue in cheek comment...

But in all honesty, teams having a somewhat of a bye week is the only good that comes out of it...

I guess im just troubled with the thought that a, shall we say, less than stellar, conference is going to grab an extra spot in the dance when most that follow the game know how this looks like pure lunacy.

Pep was happy to see All-American LB Nick Clark at the AU Football Banquet Jan. 28. Clark graduated in December from AU and has been in Texas training for a combine. Clark says he will compete at the Akron, Ohio NFL Combine on March 9. Best of luck to our All-American!

On Saxon Warriors!!

Nice little piece on Nick getting ready for combines.
Check out the official card game of the AU Pep Band - Str8 Eight!

Surfing around to find some schedule info on Montclair and looked at the Buuff St. site. Congratulations to them for their 2012 schedule. The first (3) games : Cortland, B-Port and Whitewater and then the rest of the E-8. A great out of conference schedule will only help the program. Nice job Buff St.

That's pretty cool.  Buffalo State is an interesting team.  They were very good more than a decade ago, then went through a lot of bad times, but they are slowly improving, and could cause some problems in the E8, I think.

If only more teams were willing to schedule like this.  I'm looking at you, NEFC and ECFC

You know what though? Scheduling of this type is one of the things that got them in trouble in the first place. In 1999, they went 7-3, and in 2000, they went 7-4. In 2001, here was the schedule, as an independent:

Mansfield (D-II)
Robert Morris (D-II)
Albion (8-3...I think)
Cortland (5-5)
Brockport (9-2)
Rowan (11-2)
Montclair (9-2)
Ithaca (11-2)
Washington & Jefferson (11-1)

Record of D-III opponents: 55-16 (I may be off by one or two) Buff State record: 1-8.

In 2002, it was the same thing:

Robert Morris
Mansfield
Albion (5-5)
Cortland (9-2)
Brockport (10-3)
Rowan (10-1)
Montclair (5-5)
Case Western (6-4)
Ithaca (7-3)
Washington and Jefferson (9-3)

Record of D-III opponents: 61-26. Buff State record: 1-9

Obviously, there were other issues that contributed to the downfall, since Buff State went 7-4 in 2000 against mostly the same opponents, and maybe these current Bengals are in better shape to withstand that. I'm not predicting doom. I'm just saying that sometimes you bite off more than you can chew. There needs to be a balance between too easy and too hard. I hope the Bengals have found that middle ground where the schedule works to challenge the players and get them better, and doesn't lead to a lot of losses and discouragement. Frankly, this year's schedule is probably easier because teams like the Wick, IC, and Brockport aren't quite where they were in the early 2000's. I just don't want to see them go through another dark period due to overambitious scheduling...

As of last year when Buff St. was in the NJAC they played Cortland and B-Port and taking a wack at UWW IMHO will give them something to shoot for in the E-8. They will be battle tested. Let's see how they do this year.

Absolutely, however the downside would be a let down after a long trip back from a lop-sided defeat to the reigning champs as they head into conference play.  It'll be interesting to see what transpires, but I gotta imagine that only the most curmudgeonly of us in the E8 won't be pulling for the Bengals to pull off the upset.

Is it mere coincidence or does the presence of IC grad Jerry Boyes on the Bengal sidelines determine the success of the Buffalo State football program? Buff State was a perennial East Region power from 1991-2000 (Boyes was head coach from 1986-2000). As soon as he took over as A.D. and relinquished football coaching duties in 2001, the Bengals curled up in a corner and took a cat nap. Even with more realistic scheduling with the NJAC, the Bengals had no claws. With the return of Boyes to the sidelines, the Bengals are back on the prowl.  They've made steady progress the last three years and are ready to make some noise in the E8.

Pep HATES IT when Kaz flaunts his AU bachelor's degree and sophisticated vocabulary that causes Moo'ville AAS-degree holding Pep to have to go to dictionary.com to discover what Kaz means by his latest insulting post. Grrrrrr! Kaz makes Pep so mad...or maybe it's just a case of the Mondays.

Pep would like to see Buffalo State pull off an upset at Perkins Stadium, so the Saxons can visit Coyer Field and, with a sword, burst that Bengal bubble.

I think Boyes was a big part of it. He's a great coach. But there had to be something else going on at Buff State. You don't go from qualifying for the NCAA's every year to an average of 2-7 for nine years just due to a coaching change. It was too sudden, in my view, to be all about Boyes.
