Serious news out of Ithaca: Mike Welch is taking an indefinite leave of absence from coaching. He'll be undergoing heart bypass surgery on Tuesday. Mark McDonough will the the head coach in his stead. More here, although it looks like not much is known. I'll keep my ear to the ground

Thoughts and prayers go out to Coach Welch and his family.

Sad to hear. Best wishes to Coach Welch and the Welch family. Obviously this type of thing can put football into perspective.

what will be interesting to see is how far alfred moves up.  they have to move ahead of fisher but they were not getting much love prior.  if they only move into the 20's you would think that fisher drops out.

will be looking to hear from the saxon fans this week about the big game with the gulls, including who is making the trip.  i am heading down and would like to meet some of you guys.

Pep is trying to pull together a band to travel down to Salisbury. Too early to tell whether we can pull that off. Highly doubtful. Tough to sell a two-day trip to college students who are in the middle of a semester and are just coming back from a break. Sans band, Pep will travel with his pops, who is responsible for Pep's devotion to the Saxons. The 84-year-old patriarch began attending Alfred University football games as a 9-year-old back when Alex Yunevich came to town in 1937. He's missed three home games since....(what were those relatives thinking, getting married during football season?)

Ithaca week...

They suck and whatnot...

However I'm having a tough time thinking Fisher comes away with a win this week.  Fisher needs to shut IC out otherwise I think IC breaks the streak...

IC will likely be fired up with the Welch news and Fisher is coming off two straight losses...
The views expressed in the above post do not represent the views of St. John Fisher College, their athletic department, their coaching staff or their players. I am an over zealous antagonist that does not have any current connection to the institution I attended.

I dont know what to take from this loss other than utter disappointment and disgust.
Mental errors again plague this team.
This loss was the dagger for the season..
Can anybody say ECACs?
Not the way I wanted Kramer going out.

You can say, but that may prove to be too ambitious.  (and it pains me to say it).  Utica surging, Buff State is inconsistent but they've shown what they can do, and IC could be playing for something that is bigger than the game.  Factor in the how SJF got its wins - long exception being HC, the team is lucky it finds itself with a winning record right now.

Pep,

You can join up with Salisbury Pep Band, lol! If you do make the trip, safe travels. I thought the De facto E 8 championship was two weeks ago, but it appears it's this weekend, just like last year, E8 championship being played in the four season state.

wesleydad

good to hear pep.  safe travels for you and your pops.  i will be sure to find you, or you me which may be easier since i will be the only person on the AU side wearing some type of wesley gear.  the band would be cool and i have always liked the gulls pep band at the games.  i looked at common opponents and the scores look rather similar between the teams.  is the AU defense vastly improved from last year to keep the gulls option in check?  film is out there for shutting it down, do they have the athletes to pull it off.  turnovers will be big, get some takeaways and avoid them and AU has a shot.  it will be my first time seeing the saxons so i am looking forward to it.

Thanks, wesleydad. Look forward to meeting you and looking forward to the game....not so much the 15 hours on the road! AU usually plays Springfield early in the season and has had pretty good success in shutting down the Pride triple option. Pep has chosen to forget last year's Salisbury game. It's a new year. This season has become an overnight success. Anytime the Saxons beat Ithaca and Fisher in the same year, IMHO, it's a successful season.

On Saxon Warriors!

P.S. Sent you a personal message, wesleydad.

Wondering what people's thoughts are on this NCAA rule? Doesn't the NCAA allow a Las Vegas Bowl to be played?
GO FISHER!!!

I could be misinterpreting but I think it only applies to anything that is involved with a championship, and as we all know, 101 of the 102 bowl games don't determine a champion.

IIRC, Nevada forbids betting on game involving Nevada colleges; perhaps also games played in Nevada?

That might be a strategy for New Jersey - forbid gambling on games played in NJ?  (I have no way of knowing if that would satisfy the NCAA.)

Pat Coleman

And the other bowl game doesn't involve an NCAA championship. Those kind of NCAA rules don't apply to the BCS "championship."

I don't know if that's true anymore...I just bet (against) UNLV at a spots book on the strip a couple of weeks ago, and they were home...I think they have loosened the rules in Nevada....

Is this thing on?  The board sure gets quiet when Fisher loses.  And the Cardinals hadn't lost two in a row since 2008 when Salisbury was involved as well.  As interesting as it would be for Ithaca to finally beat Fisher again, we should probably be rooting for the Cards just to keep the board lively!
Check out the official card game of the AU Pep Band - Str8 Eight!

fisheralum91

It has been quiet on here.
I think the IC Fisher game has taken a back seat (as it should) to the coach Welch story.

I've said all I needed to say regarding Fisher at this point.  Kindly remove Kramer as the starting QB so we can be a legit offense again and not have to suffer through games like last Saturday.  I would love for whatever his name is to come on and talk about his intangibles again.  How his job is to protect the ball and how he just knows how to win.
