Well.  That's one way to do it.

I wish I could just post the text log from the past 3.5 hours between my phone and Pep's.  He was stuck at a wedding and I watched a first half that reminded me of the Salisbury game in 2011, giving Pep the painful blow-by-blow.  That gave me solace when I took my boys outside to watch the Alfred State Homecoming fireworks at 8pm.  That's apparently when Pep got home and started sending me texts about Saxon touchdowns.  I vowed not to watch the rest of the game and then brought my boys back in and put them to bed.  I did sneak one quick glance after 8pm when I walked through the room and saw Alfred near the goal line - only to miss the XP!  So, I shut off the computer and allowed Pep to provide me the relevant details.  Now I'm going to head back through today's posts to read the reactions to the game that I purposely missed.
Check out the official card game of the AU Pep Band - Str8 Eight!

Fisher was sloppy, undisciplined and careless with the football and yet got away with a V today.
Lets hope that Vos can turn this around, as these are problems that are beyond frustrating.
2 personal fouls on one play?
Really?
Wow
Oh and did I mention that the kicking game was completely horrific?

I was at the Fisher game today, and am just getting back. Not a pretty win in any way for Fisher, but still a win against a quality program. Give Cortland some credit for a good scheme defensively, and for putting a lot of pressure on Fisher. Without the turnovers and penalties the score line would be much different, but Fisher made a lot of mistakes to keep it really tight until late.

One more thought...Fisher has to be more disciplined on defense. In the second half, in a tight game, Fisher had two bad penalties on one play that moved C-State from the 50 to the 10 (end result was a touchdown and a 10-7 lead for Cortland. Then After a dropped punt, they took a face mask penalty that moved Cortland inside the 5 (end result a touchdown and a 17-14 lead for Cortland). Fisher needs to get that squared away.
GO FISHER!!!

Nicely put Bombers. I think Buff State's lack of a kicker may have cost them on the XP, but, not the FG honestly, Kacz had a guy open, but missed his throw on 3rd down, so I can't blame them for thinking they could make it, given how they'd moved that drive. I'm a fan of aggression there. But the missed XP killed them. You could tell the offense was moving with confidence there. Get it to the 30-35, and you have a chance.

I liked Boffoli's last drive. Surprised the Bombers didn't get to Prugar more, though.

Stat of the year: Ithaca has returned 11 punts for 253 yards. Their opponents have returned 4 for 16.

Congrats on 1 helluva a game today Bomber. I actually left when we were down 17-7 and threw the pick. Thinking it was over and wanting to beat the crowd ???  Got home and turned to watch the final few minutes (I lve less than 3 miles from Buff State) and was shocked to see that we had come back. After the final whistle I almost wish that I had not tuned in :(.

Don't know what to say about my BENGALS. They cut down on penalties (although they commited 2 of the most undisciplined penalties a player could commit)! Fought hard and had a chance to win but IC was the better team when all was said and done! Off to Alfred next Sat.

Hopefully we can make PEP's day gloomy! ;)

Go BENGALS!

Wow...is the Dom Scavo era already over at Alfred?

Four picks in three games and a 51% completion rate, and the Johnson kid looks like he can run, which Scavo hasn't shown (though in fairness, he had two turnovers as well) But to lose the job to another freshman...tough draw. I wish the kid well, but I always look at situations like this and think of Ryan Steenberg and Josh Felicetti.  In a semi-related story, Phil Neumann is graduating this year.

Great second half by the Alfred D. The E8 looks very strong again

Congrats to AU. what a crazy game. 5000 fans. Brockport is getting pretty good at blowing big halftime leads. See last year's Montclair St game, where they blew both 28-0 and 35-14 (1/2 way thru 3rd Q) leads and lost. Today they blow a 28-0 halftime lead.
AU must have balls as big as church bells to not fold in a "hostile" environment.
AU held Bports O in check...under 400 yards total and under 4 yards a carry for Brockport.
Meanwhile AU's offense blew up to the tune off 499 yards and 8 yards a play. And AU was -2 in turnovers.

Pep was not at the game and could not see any crowd shots from the webcast. But Pep's pops and sisters were there and Pops said there was a huge crowd of Alfred fans at the game. Pep would guess there may have been 1500 AU fans, but only guessing, as, once again, the webcast did not show the bleachers. Pep DID, however, hear the roar of the crowd on the last couple of TDs...and, in the absence of the pep band, was told his sisters were singing the fight song!!

Stay tuned!

That's what makes these local games great. Visiting fans can travel well. And add to the atmosphere. In an earlier post I alluded to that by saying a "close opponent" would add to the crowd.

New top 25 is out....Fisher despite beating C-State drops a spot to 19.
Thoughts?

I think they deserve to be rank a little higher. I think the reasoning is that they kind of just got by a team that lost to Buff St. whom recently just got exposed by the number 12 team. So looking at teams rank 13-19, I think you could actually put them in a hat and say this team is better than this team. However, I think prior history comes into effect as well. The East traditionally does not do well (deep in the playoffs), so voters may give other regions the benefit of the doubt.

Upstate

Eh, not worried about it...

Wabash jumped them and they've just been throttling teams this year...
The views expressed in the above post do not represent the views of St. John Fisher College, their athletic department, their coaching staff or their players. I am an over zealous antagonist that does not have any current connection to the institution I attended.

Cortland is 1-2 this year, with their only win being against a decidedly average WP team. Their loss to Buff State doesn't look as good either. I don't think a sort of blah win at home against C-State is all that impressive.

Pep has spoken to several folks who were there and, indeed, it was a hostile environment for the Saxons....but they had tremendous support. Based on this photo, Pep would estimate that of the crowd of 5,000 in attendance at the game, about 1,000 were in the visitor stands:

They got leaped by wabash who beat allegany 63-0

Allegany has 2 TDs on season...I guess voters thought that allegany is better than Cortland?
