The Bombers have never had a comeback greater than 14 points. They've erased bigger deficits (19 against Brockport comes to mind) but wound up losing all those games.

So I guess last year's Union game is probably the biggest, considering they trailed by 14 with 6:23 to go*, though they needed overtime to finish it off. Ithaca also trailed Fisher by 14 with 10:10 to go in the 4th and won in OT

Side note: I know it makes for better drama, but I really hate the way stories write comebacks. In football, they often use the last play before the touchdown and say "They trailed by 14 with 2:49 to go." That's true, of course, but it sort of paints an incomplete picture in my mind of how the comeback went.

I am trying to think of the biggest comeback in Fisher history, and off the top of my head I can only think of the 2011 Hartwick game. Down 20-3 late  in the first half Fisher scored the next 49 points en route to a 55-28 win. That win got them into the playoffs and Fisher won two games before losing to UST.

That isn't always a bad thing though right?  What is Mount Unions biggest comeback in the last 30 years?

Maybe that game last year against UMHB, that was a crazy game.

Well, you're right, of course. Some of IC's comebacks (AIC in 1991, Fisher in 2005) haven't been big, but the lateness of the wins and the quality of the opponent make them stand out a lot more. Some comebacks are nothing more than good teams playing horrible against a team they should monkey-stomp and then realizing, "Oh yeah, we're a lot better than they are" and taking care of business. The 2011 Fisher-Wick game would be an example of that. Heck, with three minutes to go in the third quarter, you knew Fisher was going to win that one. It's a great comeback, but it's also just regression to natural talent levels.

I'd much prefer a game against a good team where it goes down to the wire, because you're not just waiting for the other shoe to drop. There's actually some "We may not pull this off" tension in the air (but maybe that was the case prior to the blocked FG)

Over on the OAC Boards, Pep posed your question and got this for an answer from Kira & Jaxon's Dad:

Mount Union came back from being down 7-0 against Marietta last week and won 84-14.  ;)

How about Utica scoring 30 fourth quarter points against Buff State
last October to pull out a road win?  That may have kept the Bengals out
of an ECAC bowl.

Very curious to see how Utica fares vs. the Gulls Saterday.

Good call. Utica was down, 37-21 late in the third quarter, so that was a 16 point deficit, similar to Alfred's 34-19 fourth quarter deficit to Rochester in the 2006 ECAC Bowl Game, which the Saxons won, 40-34.

I plan to dual screen the game with the Wesley game against Huntingdon.

This weeks ATN ranks the conferences, and the E8 has moved from 7 (in kickoff) to 5th after non-conference play. After reading the column, that sounds about right to me.

Honestly, I never have. Call BS if you want, but I think at some point, it's got to take a lot of fun out of the season. Last year, they won 6 straight games by at least 50 points. They've had other seasons where they've won 11 games by 40+. I've seen the Bombers win games similarly (though not recently) and while it's nice as an every once in awhile thing, I really wouldn't want a season full of them.

I don't know. I think there's a lot of fun in exceeding expectations, pulling an upset, the drama of a back and forth game etc. I look at Mount's 2007 regular season, where I think they outscored teams 542-10. On some level that was fun to watch, I'm sure, but on another, I just think it would be really boring. That season was 13 games of blowouts, one semi interesting half against Ithaca, and then a upset loss.

Great season? Of course. Enjoyable? Eh. I'd take IC's 2001, where the regular season, in addition to a few blowouts, featured several really dramatic games, great comebacks, a end of season rivalry game with postseason implications and a pair of stunning road playoff upsets. Sure, Rowan kicked the ever-loving crap out of them, but a lot more interesting things happened than "Oh look, we won in dominating fashion again"

Pep agrees. It ain't fun. It (blowing everyone out) lacks the emotions so prevalent in life itself...as ABC Sports reminded Pep as a youngster, week after week after week, "The thrill of victory" and the "agony of defeat" (insert video of rollerskating Pep taking an agonizing spill).

Heck, if Alfred's games were all like those at UMU, the AU fight song would hit the top of the pop charts. After every TD, the band plays the fight song (On Saxon Warriors!) once, sings it once, then plays it again. Every TD. It's become tradition. Following the 60-0 defeat at the hands of the Saxons at Merrill Field in a much-anticipated NCAA playoff game, a young fan of the SUNY Maritime Privateers was heard to say, "That band isn't very good. They only know one song and I've never heard it before."

Pep: "Get the fight song ready!"
Band: "It's always ready!"

Saterday is almost here and Utica faces a hungry Salisbury.
I'm glad we have them at home.  This is the best Utica D
(I know, previously an oxymoron) I've seen in the three years I've been
around the team.
I think Utica has the offensive firepower to stay in this game.
Ball control will be the key.  Oh, Duh...
