I think I'll just hand you the mic back.

Garbage plates were cool when I was a 20-year old college student. Since I'm now 31 and missing a gallbladder, however, I'm looking for a meal, not a challenge.

I used to love that stuff—once got a free T-shirt for eating four 6-ounce burgers in an hour at an Ithaca restaurant when I was maybe 23—but there's a time and a place for that.

Tahou's is kind of a must if you want the quintessential Rochester food, however, if you don't mind a bit of a drive Vic & Irv's in Irondequoit has some good burgers, etc. Bill Grays is great and of course Dinosaur BBQ is amazing if you don't mind waiting for a table.

Enjoy the ROC!

We're currently looking for a few more folks who would like to be part of the Top 25 Fan Poll this season over on the General Football board.  There's currently 7 people participating but very little representation from the east and south regions. Our poll even was mentioned in an edition of Around the Nation a couple seasons ago comparing our results to that of the "major" polls.

To participate all you have to do is submit your ballot by PM to me by Tuesdays. Votes for each team may be revealed but no one's ballot will be revealed unless the person announces it themselves.

Preseason ballots are due by Sunday August 31st, but if you're interested and need a couple extra days let me know. :)

Good luck to all the E8 teams this season.

Pep is pumped for some football today.
Band Camp at 11 a.m.
Scrimmage vs. Misericordia at 2 p.m.
Lots of new faces in the AU camp.
D3football.com predicts a 6-4 season. Pep, in looking at the rugged schedule, being a bit more conservative, says they'll finish 5-5.

Pep has been chatting lately with Bob Codispoti who played for AU 1962-65, was a long-time assistant with (legendary) Coach Alex Yunevich and Pep's social studies teacher in 7th grade. (Still trying to get that grade upped....) Seems it's been 50 years this October since the "Miracle at Merrill" and Pep was there. Seems like yesterday. Pep has seen many thrilling Alfred football games since, but none can compare with the game played at Merrill Field on Oct. 31, 1964. It was legendary. At University Field in Selinsgrove, PA in 1963--Susquehanna 68, Alfred 0. One year later, at Merrill Field in Alfred, NY--Alfred 18, Susquehanna 16. In all of his 36 seasons on the sidelines at Alfred--274 games--it had to be Alex's biggest triumph and perhaps the only game ever in which he ran out onto the field in the final seconds to be with his victorious Saxon Warriors. It was a day in which an attentive crowd, of just over 3,000 roared its delight as if the sound of 30,000. And Pep was there.

Let's go, Saxons!

Any word out of Fisher about how the scrimmage against U of R went yesterday?

No word on Fisher but at Yunevich Stadium, the pep band concluded its Band Camp by playing during the scrimmage with Misericordia...for three quarters and a couple additional AU offensive sets. While the scoreboard read 0-0 at the game's conclusion, in Pep's mind, the Saxons were a bit shaky out of the gates but regrouped and after giving up a field goal early after a Saxon turnover, AU prevailed, scoring five TDs.

Was a bit different sans Coach Murray on the sidelines, but Pep saw some good things from the fresh-legged runningbacks. Pep suggests the Saxons, with their rugged schedule and coaching changes, should finish the season around .500, hopefully above.

I heard Fisher "won" the scrimmage but UofR hung in there, especially given the Jackets brought about 70 players and Fisher had 110+, not including the kids in shorts and jerseys on the sidelines.

Fishers primary WR tipped a couple of passes for TDs and looked like a game breaker. Fisher lines, offensive and defensive were "huge". The latter exacerbated the fact that UofR has small LBs which will probably be a something the Jackets will need to work on / compensate for this season.
