Saxon,

No offense, but the Saxons have a really tough road ahead.  They face 3 ranked teams in SJF, IC and Bart.

They really havent come close to beating IC recently and have only beaten SJF once in the past 4 years.

They've got a big hill to climb,  they've got to win out to have a shot at the NCAA's.

TGP definitely expects a great game from the Saxons on 10/28.  Bart better not be looking ahead to their 11/4 showdown with Union or they are in for a rude awakening.

Original,

Yes, you are only saying what I implied.  Look what happenened last year in Pittsford.  The Saxons were not even taken seriously going into the game having lost only their first game at Washington + Lee and a good game v Ithaca.  The W + L game was an aberation as Keelely threw about five interceptions in his first game as a Saxon  but he improved progressively through the season.  Keeley, as you are aware is a fine young man.  The Saxons are a team that learns from their mistakes and Keeley is playing very maturely. One interception this YEAR I believe, and he is composed and knows when to throw the ball away.

It is an uphill climb as the Rodney Dangerfield of NYS d3 football, but since 1969 I have seen the Saxons improve through the season typically, and keep my hopes up.

Best wishes'

cortland has beaten who they need to.......which at this point is everyone on their schedule.........i think for the most part they are getting the respect they deserve(mostly on the EB board, rankings)......there are some who are not giving them their respect (rowan fans: see NJAC board).........

Great P,

Appreciated your sincerity.  I don't know how old you are, but the AU at Hobart game in '72 is known in Alfred as the "Miracle at Geneva.  I was there and the Saxons scored three times in the last 7 minutes.  A total combination of offense made this possible along with Linebacker Bill Ekman keying on Mr. A-Z, an all American running back as I recall, to stop him and give the Saxons one of their greatest victories to that time.  Jim Morreti the current Athletic Director was QB in that game and it stands as an example of the AU tradition.  No offense to the current situation and teams, but as you admonish - don't count out AU.

Best wishes,

Yea Rowan gets a high ranking because their history of nationaly performing well in the d3 playoffs.  That cannot be said of any other eastern team.  Untill Rowan starts getting blown out in the playoffs, they will continue to be in the top 3-10 in the rankings every year.

Cortland on the other hand (while their season this year compared to Rowans looks equal) cannot say the same.

But rankings now mean nothing.  If Cortland runs the table they will be ranked 4th or 5th in the d3football.com poll I could say.

A lot of people, especially Fisher fans I think, are using the IC game as proof that Fisher is "the real deal" this year. Let's keep in mind that while Fisher dominated IC in the second half, IC dominated Fisher in the first half without even playing well (they should have scored more than 10 plus that first safety *was* a safety). I'm not saying Fisher didn't deserve the win, but they've played a lot of crappy teams since that game and I don't think it's unlikely, hell I think it's likely, that that first half could make another appearance in either the Springfield or Alfred game, and maybe one of those two will be better at capitalizing than IC was. I know the offense is more than just Robinson (please don't write in winmag and possibly grand pere), but all it takes is Robinson having an off-day and either of those teams is right in that game.

We found out at the beginning of the season that IC wasn't all it was cracked up to be. The same might be ahead for Fisher. Fisher's strongpoint is its defense, but it has been shown that both sides of the ball can be less than lethal.

cstate,

I understand as you say, Cortland has beaten whom they NEEDED to beat.  From the outside looking in, who have they really beaten?  The schedule to this point does not exhibit the strenghth that cortland may have.  You must understand the skepticism of people looking from the outside with consideration to the CS schedule at this point.

Maxpower,

I think you are expressing the sentements I have been indicating.  Fisher and Springfield can be beaten.  Right now it is up to Fisher to beat Sp'fld.  I am confounded as to how a team that virtually never passes can't b beaten.  They must be made to pas  and the oppossing team must take the chance on being burned because the Sp'fld defense is not that great.

Ergo Fisher must beat Sp'fld so the Saxons only due to the schedule will determine the E8 outcome. Reasonable?

It's a common expression max, I'm not trying to steal any "credit", not to mention we're speaking more out of hope than actual belief

saxon a win is a win.......the job is to get the W not win by 70 and look impressive........

superman57

well said cstate  and Ithaca fans should hear that and a win by 24 points is a win by 24 points.

Now that being said can the Fisher offense start slow against Springfield and win, maybe maybe not.  But Fisher has not started slow at all the last couple of weeks and they are playing very well right now and this defense is something else they are very scary with what they could do
