i hear you B27.............if we beat mt union it would be more impressive then beating TCNJ..........but we play the schedule.........i dont think cortland has any "impressive" wins yet (maybe West Conn) but then you look up and they are 6-0 and you gotta start thinking about the body of work not a week by week process

Saxon73

CS19,

I believe you missed the point of my reply.

It was not that you beat your opponent, but how good was the opponent that you beat.

ok i understand that Saxon..........my point is that Cortland does not control their schedule......

Saxon73

CS19,

Au contre,

Pardon the french but the Athletic directors control the schedule, except of course for the conference games.

best wishes,

There are more teams in the NJAC, therefore an E8 team technically has more control over their schedule than does an NJAC team. (6 conference games for E8 teams vs. 7 for NJAC Teams)

Edit: And let's compare the non-conference schedule for both:

Cortland: Morrisville, Brockport, Ithaca

Alfred: Thiel, St. Lawrence, HUSSON!, Hobart

Husson makes it a push because they are so bad.

Saxon73

Portgrad,

Sorry but the E8 has 7 teams, Alfred, Hartwick, Ithaca, Norwich, ST John Fisher, Springfield and Utica

Portgrad,

Why did you not put Morrisville in CAPS?

I was referring how many games a team will play, obviously in a league with 7 teams you play 6 games in the league...you don't face yourself...

As for Morrisville, they probably would even beat Husson.

I will edit this slightly, yes Morrisville probably should have been Capped in the same Context.  Overall though, the only real Test Alfred has faced...YET...they have lost, to Springfield.  Don't give me Thiel as they don't look too good this year.

Cortland is in the same boat, with no real tests yet.

All and All, I should say, that I don't disagree with either side, I just wanted to throw the "real" data out there.

PortGrad,

You are correct concerning the number of opponents in the E8 - my bad.

However, when you cite Cortland playing Morrisville, how can you reference Husson in comparison?

When Alfred beat Thiel, Thiel was ranked in the top 25 in the polls, despite the schedule worked out ahead of time.

As for Alfred's other non conference game, Hobart is an "A" number one contender.

If you don't know, the following two games for Alfred are v Ithaca and then Fisher.

Ergo, Alfred's one non conference game of significance (Husson) a trip all the way to Maine, I would think, not be of much concern.

Alfred has not been a team to shy away from competition as evidenced from the early 70's when U of R annouced they knocking Alfred off their schedule because U of R was going "big time".  Strangely enough
Alfred Beat U of R in that so called last meeting.

Could you maybe rephrase this? I have no idea what this has to do with itself, much less what we're talking about. How does something weird that happened in the early 70's affect this year's team? How does Alfred beating U of R after UR snubbed them mean they "do not shy away from competition"? What does that last quote have to do with anything?

And who smote me? Just 'cuz I said Fisher might lose if they play poorly?

Saxon73

MaxP,

Please don't take my statement out of context.  I was refering to the history (or the past as I know it) that Alfred does not shy away from competition.  As it was pointed out, yes the Saxons are traveling to Maine to play Husson.  Although other non - conference games include St Lawrence who beat RPI, Thiel (ranked in the top 25 preseason when Alfred played them 1st game of the year (afterwhich giving W+J a tough time) and includes undefeated Hobart a perrenial powerouse.

The Hobart game is followed by Ithaca and then Fisher.

Is there a tougher schedule in the E8.

That brings up to date the willingness to "play the game" as AU is willing to do.

Hoopefully things are clearer now - just my personal experience, not to be reflected on the current Athletic Dept at Alfred University.

nevermind saxon...........i dont think your getting it

good morning y'all!  Well after catching up on the boards from the night shift I am backing everyone with the statement that cortland is the real deal. Fisher , for some reason, i dont know why, possibly because of their 1/2 game performance against ithaca, is not the real deal.  I think Robinson is the real deal, the team as a whole however i am skeptical.  I hope that IC runs the table as does Cortland that way Cortaca has that much more of an implication on both teams.  If IC then beats Cortland I think the bombers are NCAA bound for sure.

Lets assume that Fish loses to Springfield or Alfred and still wins the E8. The Bombers beat Cortland and make the NCAA's with one lose. Is it possilbe Ithaca would be ranked higher in the playoffs??
