The prediction of a classic demolition derby was the best analogy ever.

Have not been able to post recently but honestly that is as good of a description as possible. Honestly there is no way of knowing which teams will win. Cortland has the tenuous advantage but one loss and the chaos will ensue. Exciting but maddening to follow any of these teams

I was talking to someone involved with Cortland athletics yesterday, and they commented on how much better the E8 is top to bottom than the NJAC. They couldn't believe how tough it is every week. Makes for a fun season, but I am not sure coaches love it.

I doubt an NJAC insider would have the same view.   Personally, I don't view the E8 as that strong at all...just balanced.

I guess that is why I thought it was so interesting. This was an NJAC insider until this season, and he was pretty adamant about it. Obviously the additions to the NJAC change things, and he has not seen those teams regularly, but the comment stuck with me because it was from an NJAC guy, so to speak.

Cards  I really meant to dispute one part of the quote.  It had stated that the conference was tougher "top to bottom"

I was thinking, how much tougher can you get than Wesley?...and I responded in that vein.   After I posted, I realized how much the NJAC added AFTER CState left...   So from his view, comparing the NJAC of last year, to the E8 would be a vast difference.  It's much closer with the addition of Wesley, Salisbury, CNU and Frostburg, however, I doubt that anyone would disagree that the upper bar of the NJAC (with Wesley) is much higher right now than E8 (Cortland St.).
I would also add that this year has been an anomaly in that EVERY team in the E8 has been competitive.  In the past there have been one or two teams that haven't really been competitive.  Most years I would assume that the E8 and NJAC will have 2 (or so) non competitive teams, and therefore will be very similar.

Yeah, but the NJAC's worst are, really, really bad. West Conn and Morrisville went, I think, 6-84 against other opponents from 2008-2012. No pair of E8 teams did anything similar

Ok, and nitpicking a bit, but the quote "top to bottom" is not really accurate...

maybe this?

"and they commented on how much better the E8 is top (except for the very top, and well maybe the next 1 or 2 as well) to bottom (because we are way better than their bottom) than the NJAC

I think "top to bottom" is another way of saying "week to week".

Cortland's just played four straight E8 games that went:

OT
OT
1-point game in 4th quarter
6-point lead preserved by stopping opponent at the 1-yard line with 5 minutes to go in the 4th quarter/

I'm sure there's a lot of recency bias at play in their comments as well

Nope. They're all gone. MIYH, MIOH, Superman, RowdyBomber, Dew, First Down Club is a thing of the past....Pep still has his pep but has been "banned" from library workshops. How's about you make a trip back to Ra-cha-cha Nov. 14 for an encounter of the SJFC-AU kind?

I've been kicking it for over a decade now, which is bonkers to think about.

Also, Fisher won in a 56-0 squeaker last night against Alfred State.  Scored touchdowns on their first 8 possessions and led 56-0 at the half where I'm only assuming they called off the dogs.  Second half finished with no scoring by either team.

Alfred State is really bad so this game is a throwaway when trying to deduce if Fisher is continuing to make positive strides.  But 3 wins in a row is still 3 wins in a row!  Onto next week against Ithaca.  That game will be much more telling.

Agreed it is hard to draw any real conclusions from Fisher last night, but at least you could say they handled their business. Up 35-0 after the first and 56-0 at half is pretty good no matter who you are playing. Another week of solid football. IC, Hartwick, and Alfred to end the year has me a little worried about a winning season, but the team has improved a great deal from week 1.

So if Buff State, Fisher, and Cortland all end up at 3-2 in conference what happens? Is it as simple as Fisher is out because they lost to both teams and Buff State is in based on their win over Cortland?
GO FISHER!!!

Bengals win 28-16.  More penalties than I've ever seen from Buff State.  2 tds called back.  Gotta do better next.  Here's to hoping that they do

Go BENGALS !!

Cortland takes care of Brockport..scoring 14 points in the second quarter after the game was tied 14-14. They tacked on one more in the 3rd to go up by 3 Tds..which brockport  answered but would get no closer. Cortland's D was the first defense to hold Dan Andrews under 4 yards a carry. Cortland had almost 500 yards of offense with most damage coming through the air. QB Ferreira had 314 yards passing with 3 TD passes and 0 interceptions..even though he was sacked 4 times. They averaged 6.8 yards per play. Kinda puts Brockport in the bottom tier of the conf with a lot of teams above them. Alfred U next week at home.....Pep.. don't forget to dress in costume if you come. I'm thinking Barney Fife  ; )

Some BENGALS thoughts while planning for my 9 a.m. Bills football party with family and friends tomorrow morning.....

I'm gonna go out a limb and say the Rey Jordan (c.b.) - Buffalo State (Soph) will be the DefensIVe P.O.W. for the 2nd week in a row. His 2, 4th quarter interceptions vs Utica today (both either in the endzone or at the 2 yard line of Buff State), sealed a game that the BENGALS had to have to stay in contention. I feel for Rey. His 2nd interception ,which he took 102 yards for 6, was called back because his "teammate" M. Artis was flagged for un sportsmanlike conduct  :'( . Damn Could have been his 3rd pick 6 in 8 days!

His freshman year he focused solely on playing Basketball for the BENGALS but clearly Coach Boyes has found a keeper at corner for the next 2 years! As valuable as he was to BENGALS hoops, he is irreplacable on the football field. THe Utica announcer even went so far as to note how David Palmer (Utica star receiver who was their leading pass catcher before today) ) "has been kept quiet" by #10 (Jordan). Held Palmer to 0 catches!

And the BENGALS defense, whiCH is still getting nailed with stupid penalties, has held opposing offense scoreless over the past 10 quarters. On to Hartwick for a 2 p.m.start. I'm hoping that the BENGALS hoops crimmage is over with Hilbert before then. Should be a good game!

GO BENGALS
