Wanted to tell you guys that I may not be at many Bomber games this fall. Mrs. Bombers798891 is expecting our first in October, so we may have to stay close to home. It's pretty cool actually. We went to an appointment last week to hear the baby's heartbeat, and the ultrasound tech put the thing on her stomach, and it was this really cool sound. We were all so happy, and then, once we'd gone crazy with happiness, the tech put up her hand to make us be quiet. In the still of the room, we actually heard a tiny muffled voice as it said, very clearly:

"Cortland sucks."

Too Funny! +K and congrats!

Super K + on this post.........I hope Mini Bombers will be more open minded to the new and developing Statesman-Bomber rivalry

Thanks for the love, guys. I've been spending my time reading to mini-Bombers from my old media guides after Mrs. Bombers falls asleep. The education is not complete, but we're getting the basics down:

1. Cortland always sucks
2. Hendel was awful
3. Paul Parker and Mike Scott were gods among mere mortals
4. Felicetti was better than Boltus
5. Stepnick didn't catch that ball, no matter what the scoreboard says

There's a lot to get through, and only a few months until the season starts

Big day in Saxonville. And not even talking about Hot Dog Day.

AU men's lacrosse (4-3 E8) will host St. John Fisher (4-3 E8) at 1 p.m. in Yunevich Stadium with the winner advancing to the Empire 8 Tournament as the #4 seed and face top-seeded and nationally-ranked #2 Ithaca (14-1) in the first round.

Beginning at 1:30 p.m. today, Saxon softball, riding a 10-game win streak and in need of at least a split to clinch the #4 seed in the Empire 8 Tournament that will be hosted by #1 seed Ithaca, will host the E8 #2 seed St. John Fisher at Harrington Field.

But first the Hot Dog Day Parade steps off on Main Street at 12 noon....HDD Carnival is on the Alfred State campus...and Extended Hours for Final Exams is underway at AU's Herrick Library.

And some say in Alfred there's nothing to do.  ???

So Pep  is planning in mid-July to take a solo cross-country three-week trip from Saxonville to the west coast and back with the itinerary including stops in:
Bicknell, IN
Lawrence, KS
Tulsa, OK
Austin, TX
Roswell, NM (Carlsbad Caverns)
Phoenix, AZ
L.A.
Yosemite National Park
Pendleton, OR
Bozeman, MT
Mount Rushmore, SD
St. Paul/Minneapolis, MN
Lac du Flambeau, WI
and back to Alfred, hopefully within three weeks!!!

The trip will serve as somewhat of a re-enactment (albeit a very different itinerary) of a family cross-country campiing trip Pep took back in 1966 that lasted three weeks and was such a memorable experience that Pep's siblings still talk fondly of our travels. Pep has purchased a number of accessories in order to turn his PT Cruiser into an RV or a one-man mini-house on wheels and is looking to set up camp when he's not staying with friends.

Pep enjoys visiting D3 stadiums...given Pep's tentative itinerary, are there any D3 venues that are "must see"?

Austin takes you with and 1-1/2 of UMHB... The Crutheral is impressive.
In MSP, Pat would be the man to ask (though I'd want to travel north to see the Natural Bowl at St John's.)
Driving through Wisconsin, a detour out of Janesville will get you to UWW's Perkin's Stadium. You could hit Eau Claire, Stout and River Falls in pretty quick order in Western Wisconsin.

I hear Roswell's stadium is out of this world.

Pep has received an invitation to visit the CruThedral at UMHB along with some Texas BBQ! Looking forward to it!

Meanwhile, the (legendary) Coach Alex Yunevich, once again, is on the ballot for the 2017 induction class for the College Football Hall of Fame.

Members of the National Football Foundation have an opportunity to vote. You can read more about it at: http://www.gosaxons.com/news/2016/6/6/saxon-coaching-legend-alex-yunevich-on-ballot-for-college-football-hall-of-fame.aspx

Also, the SAXONS have advanced to the Elite Eight of the Sports Illustrated Campus Rush to determine the "Best Mascot" in Division III!

On Felicetti:

I know I'm way higher on him than, well, everyone else here, but Ithaca's summation of him as "arguably" the greatest quarterback in school history is, IMO, paying lip service to guys who were the QB of better teams (Notably Wilkowski, who, while very good, probably had the three best players in school history as his RBs, and the best WR ever). The only argument is figuring out where he stands in conference history.

Felicetti blows away any QB in school history. He doesn't get the credit he deserves, in large part because he lacks the great postseason bonafides, because the 2004 Bombers couldn't stop Fisher's offense and the 2005 Bombers couldn't stop anyone's. (He was also dinged, unfairly, for a 1-3 Cortaca record)

How Mike Welch looked at Ryan Steenberg and Josh Felicetti and decided on Steenberg in the early part of 2002 will forever be a mystery to me.

Pep knows there's no one reading the Empire 8 boards right now and, quite understandably, few if any care much about the Sports Illustrated's Campus Rush Mascot Tournament. Nevertheless, the Saxons, one of the 32 mascots who were selected from Division III on the basis of their having no other mascot by that name, who had been seeded #6 in the Midwest Region, have now advanced to the Final Four!

To date:
MIDWEST DIVISION
#6 Saxons defeated #3 Coe College Kohawks
#6 Saxons defeated #2 Webster University Gorlocks
#6 Saxons defeated #5 Concordia Cobbers for North Regional title

FINAL FOUR:
#6 Alfred Saxons vs. #1 Oglethorpe University Stormy Petrels
#1 UC Santa Cruz Banana Slugs vs. #2 Sweet Briar College Vixens

Saxons are the lowest seeded team to advance to the Final Four. Voting has now begun and ends Monday, June 20 at justrivals.com, although at present Pep is unable to access the ballot(?).
