Am I missing an obvious "gatto"

Gatto got all "exited" about traveling to Butterfield Stadium to play the Bombers.

Anyone catch the AU-SJFC jayvee game at Growney on Sunday? Was surprised to hear AU actually won for a change. Pep knew the coaching staff seemed pleased with this year's recruits but winning jayvee games hasn't been the norm around Saxonville.

???

Going on the road and beating Springfield and the option is always a positive thing IMO. Just get in and get out with a W. Move on to next week. I would be hesitant to overanalyze that win. And I like to overanalyze.

Just hopping on after a great weekend.
Having a chance to ponder the games- my reaction to the Fisher game is much more muted than midrelief's thoughts.
While I agree that the D was not as spectacular as last week, thinking that they were dominated is a bit much.
The special teams (punting this time) put them up against a wall and I think that toward the end of the game they may have been a bit gassed.
The O looked good as usual and overall not a bad game for Fisher.
Is there a need for improvement for the D- of course especially this week with the E8 title on the line if all plays out.
There is little room for error Sat. against Cortland.
That said- i think that a sky is falling attitude is not necessary.

I feel like most of the negatives from the Fisher game can all be wiped out by the simple fact they won. I know that sounds obvious, but that game is a game Fisher has found a way to lose in the past. An option offense, some bad penalties, turnovers deep in the opponents territory,  and momentum clearly swinging to the home team late in the game. Not that it means this Fisher team is special, but lesser Fisher teams may have been 1-1 at this point. Despite all the errors (mostly self inflicted ) Fisher won by 2 scores.

Watching the game on the stream I saw O-linemen with hands on their knees in the 2nd quarter and Chambers seemed a little dinged up at points (stayed down after one hit). SC was physical and played well, in the heat and humidity.

None of that is an excuse, it just illustrates the point that maybe it was a better win than we are giving them credit for, even if it wasn't what we may have expected.
GO FISHER!!!

I didnt have the pleasure of watching- Listened to Gene and Nathan,
BTW - they make a good team-while I miss Peter- Nathan is a welcomed addition.

If Fisher can clean up a few things- they definitely give Cortland all they can handle this satErday.

So I just watched the Utica pick 6 that sparked the comeback, on the front page. Look, I'll state this upfront. Utica deserved to win the game, because they made a ton of plays (and smart coaching decisions) at the end of the game.

But that was an absolutely atrocious decision by the ONU quarterback. How in the world does he not just eat the ball on the run up the middle? To force a throw, on the run, in a situation where your only goal should be to burn clock and avoid turnovers, is just inexcusable.

Credit Utica for stopping the initial options on the play, the deflection, the return, and everything that followed over the nex 6:30. As I said, they deserved to win. But man, I can't fathom the decision making process on that play. Absolutely zero upside to that throw

You are absolutely correct. Pep thought the same thing. And Pep is betting the otherwise outstanding QB has heard that from a few other folks as well.

So, the Utica win got me thinking a little. What would be the best win by an E8 team? Let's say in the last 10 years, what is the best regular season and post season wins conference wide. I am sure everyone will point to the Buff State win over UWW as the best regular season win, so let's take that off the table now ( not to diminish the accomplishment, but rather to just accept that is probably the biggest win)

Homer alert on the playoffs in terms of significance for the E8 but I think it was Fisher going to John Carroll's house in 2013 and beating them.  They were the favorites by a long shot, with their only loss in the regular season being a 42-34 loss to Mount Union in the final conference game.  Prior to that game against Mount Union their defense gave up 33 points total in 9 games.  That's crazy.  Plus their offense averaged like 45 points a game.

I doubt anybody gave Fisher a chance (maybe they did and I just forgot).  But don'tcha know we won 25-16.

Go E8!

From a conference perspective, I would add that was a two loss Fisher team that was an at large bid to the playoffs, winning over a really top level OAC team.

I'm excluding intra-conference games because someone has to win those, and I think the spirit of the question is winning a game against an elite OOC team

My pick is Ithaca over Cortland State in 2008. The Red Dragons were undefeated, ranked 7th at the time. From a pure rankings perspective, that's got to be on the short list, given that, unlike Whitewater, this wasn't a case of the Red Dragons being overrated—Cortland actually finished the season ranked 6th.

Then throw in the fact that Ithaca was without their starting QB/RB and won 35-13...well, you take a Top 6 team to the woodshed in their own stadium, and that's hard to beat

I'd also say Fisher-Rowan 2006. Sure, Rowan wasn't exactly "Rowan" at that point, but Fisher beat them like 31-0

boobyhasgameyo

I didn't realize that Cortland was ever ranked so high in the d3football.com era.  That is a pretty good one for sure.  And yeah I think the question was against OOC opponents.

But yeah JCU was also a top 10 team heading into the playoff game against Fisher.  Rowan was ranked like 13th I think when Fisher beat them in 2006.
