"As for Hoppy, he played the entire game against Otterbein but didn't dress for AU. Pep suspects he could return but not clear on his injury."

It seems that I read/heard somewhere that Hoppy has a broken jaw from the Otterbein game.

Yeah, that sounds right. Pep thinks he heard that from someone as well....just had forgotten.  ??? Pep's memory serves him....intermittently.

Ithaca's offense is staggeringly bad. Like, if middlerelief was talking about Ithaca's offense the way he does Fisher's defense, he would actually be right. We're now at 27 points scored by the offense in their last six games. It's kind of sad to watch, because it doesn't seem like they have any idea how to fix it. Excluding penalty yardage, Ithaca's first three quarters last week were as follows:

40 plays, 56 yards, 3 first downs, 3 turnovers.

Alfred's got a solid defense, after all, they are 4-0. But I mean, that's a complete zero on offense. I mean, how does this happen?

Pep was thinking about something Alex Yunevich once said about offense. And mind you, his brilliance was on the other side of the ball.

But he once told a colleague that there are three different ways to attack:
1) Power
2) Speed
3) Deception

There was little evidence of any of these in the Ithaca offense that I saw at Yunevich Stadium Saterday.

And there was one situation where any one of them might have worked.....thinking of the 4th-and 1/2 yard to go in Saxon territory with AU leading 7-0. IC went into punt formation and garnered a delay of game penalty, then punted it away. Was a trick play in the works then but failed to execute?
1) The Bombers could have lined up with a power package and moved the ball 20 inches for the first down
2) They could have bunched up and pitched it out to their speediest back hoping to get him around the edge
3) They could have lined up as if they were going for it in an attempt to draw the defense offside, then taken a delay penalty and punted it, or, heck, run their fake punt play THEN instead of on a 4th-and-5 when it was 20-0.

But then, there were some years when Alex was coaching when AU did not have the personnel to attack with power, or with speed, or even with deception. Those years, he relied entirely on his defense not allowing the other team to score and hope to heck AU got a break sometime. In 1976, his last year of coaching, AU and IC played to a 3-3 tie on South Hill, then the next week AU went to Canton and handed the Larries (NCAA team) their only regular season loss on a windy rainy Weeks Field, 3-2.

Their QB's average a combined -29 yards rushing per game...

I'd say that the sack average is killing the numbers but their top two RBs average 52 yards a game combined...

It really is a shame to see Coach Welch go out this way. For a guy who is such a good coach, and a good guy for that matter, it is a shame when the final season doesn't work out, whatever the reasons for the issues may be.

It really is, I would think that there would be some excitement to perform well, similar to what CNU is doing. CNU changed its offense and it appears to be working for the betterment of the program.

Yeah, as an IC fan, I'm not even mad about this season, just sad. My then-fiancee/now-wife and I went to IC's preseaon friend of the program cookout in 2014, and even though he had only met my wife maybe once or twice before, when he was addressing the crowd, welcomed her to the Bomber family.

Then last week, he was next to a family friend of ours, and he asked her, out of the blue, if we had had our baby yet (three weeks to go, Mike!). Honestly, just a great man and great coach who, even when experiencing success in the 90s/early 2000s, could never seem to get enough credit from program supporters who had the idea that Ithaca had some natural right to be a Stagg Bowl caliber team.

I've reminded myself of the old adage that "Everything ends badly, or else it wouldn't end." After all, Ithaca lost Butterfield's last game 42-7. There are really just two games left I want Ithaca to win: Welch's final home game against Buffalo State, and Cortaca. If the football gods told me they were saving up all of Ithaca's points to unleash on those final two games, I'd gladly take the 1-7 start.

Regardless, I'm glad to see the rest of the conference performing well

What an awesome story/headline that would be.

Congrats to AU frosh DE Josh Rivers on being named to the D3football.com Team of the Week!

Rivers had five tackles, all solo, to help spearhead a Saxon defense that held Ithaca to 169 yards of offense (54 through three quarters), including minus-four yards rushing. He had four tackles for loss (33 yards), including three sacks that netted a loss of 29 yards. Rivers is wearing that #37 well!

So what can a Fisher fan expect from Buff State? I will admit I know next to nothing about them, and have not seen them play yet this year. My wife made a comment to me the other day about how i have not been talking her ear off about that weeks opponent and how I think Fisher should deal with them. I think most of it comes down to my kids being older so I can now bring them to games with me, and as a result I have been at 3 of Fisher's first 4 games. Not sure I could have pulled that off a couple years ago, but it has lead to a lot less time on my computer watching all the other E8 teams play.

And I think I missed it before when Bombers said he has 3 weeks before he has a baby! Congrats man! first one?
